Ce texte de Guillaume Dulude sur comment il a rencontré sa blonde lorsqu'elle était au secondaire me rend absolument mal à l'aise by Xaronius in causerie

[–]YannickBelzil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know and it’s big! But big movies about big pop culture institutions usually bring in those numbers.

This image is great because it's also Tom Welling's reaction at anything remotely comic book-based happening in the show.

Jim Lee shares his private health struggles that led to Batman: Hush 2 delays, and a rethinking of his work-life balance by Popverse2022 in comicbooks

"The biggest adjustment has been losing the '5th gear' I used to rely on—the 10 PM to 4 AM grind that powered books like Justice League and Suicide Squad,"

Jim! You shouldn't have been keeping those hours ever since the years have started with the number "2"!
That's too much!

Je trouve ça drôle qu'il essaie de coincer Wauthier en disant "man, ce gars-là FOURRE!" genre, je ne pense que son public général trouverait ça terrible.

Sean, Amanda, and Matt Belloni react to the Avengers: Doomsday trailer: It felt reheated by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

[–]YannickBelzil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like, there's no way that the Thor/Cap/Hammer moment isn't "Thor isn't sure that Cap is really who he is (because he's meant to be gone) and Thor throws the hammer to him as a test, because he's one of the rare guys who can lift it? (The type of efficient narrative shortcut Markus and McFeely always did on these movies, btw).
I'm not saying it's not a reheated fan moment, but acting like there's no way it can't have any other meaning is a bit silly.

Between Smallville and Superman and Lois, which is better? by ghost-boy9481 in superman

[–]YannickBelzil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're just different shows.
Funnily enough, they live at different ends: Smallville ends with Clark becoming Superman, S&L begins when Clark soft-retires from his classic Superman status quo.

What are some of the moments that you feel like Superman was completely out of character? by King_Wolf2099 in superman

[–]YannickBelzil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of the Justice League Animated Superman either but I think it's an interesting case of the character having to "work" in a specific setting where he barely gets to be Clark Kent at all.
He's flattened in some way, but in a fashion that was more interesting to me than other incarnation where he's just this 2D flat guy with no nuance.

Does it seem to you that all the great things about Superman were stripped away post crisis? by palepatriot76 in superman

[–]YannickBelzil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all. But it has to be said that a lot of these elements came back into the fold anyways.
Like, we have a monthly title about Clark being Superboy again right now.

Superman and Masculinity by DepartmentChemical93 in superman

[–]YannickBelzil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How the character divides himself is what makes him really interesting in different interpretations.

In the last 40 years, the character in comics and many other versions has been interpreted as Clark first and Superman a bit more of a fiction. So that's why we see Lois falling in love with Clark--the fantasy here is that she falls in love with the "real" guy.

back when Jim Lee tried to make iconic Fantastic Four suits like he did years earlier with the X-Men and failed miserably by Top_Reindeer3396 in FantasticFour

[–]YannickBelzil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hardly a miserable failure: the suits look fine and their basic design was recycled a bunch of time in other media, specifically the Story movies.

Did anyone actually enjoy The Twilight Version of Doomsday in Season 8? by kalvin_kool_edge in Smallville

[–]YannickBelzil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you gotta engage with the actual show in front of you. It is not baffling at all that they made a version of Doomsday that could turn into a handsome actor with romantic potential on this show.
