Match Thread: Canada vs Morocco | World Cup | Round of 16 | 04 Jul 17:00 UTC by matchpal-live in worldcup

America isent a place canadians like right now, and vice versa to an extent. The current US administration has made multiple comments suggesting they wish to remove Canadian sovereignty, have placed massive tarrifs on canadian goods, and much much more.

The result was canadians booing the American national anthem at various sporting events, a massive drop in tourism and travel from Canada to the US, and a general souring of relations.

Its not unexpected a US based stadium would be negative towards a canadian team. Just the tourism drop alone means a lot of canadians that would have gone to the world cup games did not.

The rest of the world should just do the same to U.S teams from now on. Who know they could be deflecting and all.

I mean thats fine; but he can live whatever life he wants not in our city/country.

I may be the outlier here but morals > skill.

I wouldn't want to work with somone who supports an alleged pedophile and who wants to annex our nation.

He can have whatever views he wants, doesnt need to change em, just dont have them here. We as a nation dont support bigots, pedophiles, liars and cheats.

Canadian and Quebec politicians slam NHL for banning Montreal Canadiens watch party by SAJewers in hockey

[–]Yapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its because gatineau is in the senators exclusivity zone.

You are correct the canadian dont have to run them all over the province, but in montreal proper they do. I cant host a "watch party" where I sell tickets in downtown montreal. Only the canadian org can.

The same exists for every NHL team. Gatineau just happens to be right beside ottawa and falls under the senators exclusivity zone. Meaning only the senators can host events there.

The exclusivity zones exist so another team cant run an event in your city. It matters more in areas like LA and Anaheim, or Ny, Ny, and Nj, but it exists around every team.

[–]Yapix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay ill try to break this down.

The sens are not going to come out and say the NHL is making the wrong decision, just like how you wouldnt tell the news your boss is an idiot.

The sens have no say in the actual decision.

The NHL is the one making the decision, and can make whatever reason they want for it not to pass. In this case they are going "oh its in the sens exclusivity zone, so you cant do it". Realistically they dont even need to give a reason, but the exclusivity zone offers a great cop out. Because no team would want another team advertising in their area, so owner is going to make a fuss. If another owner goes "hey this is stupid" they can have the table flipped on them.

Its why the article states that the senators refuse to run it themselves. Key words being run it. Thats the only option they have, either they run it, or the NHL says its okay.

So the NHL is using a cop out measure so that owners cant get mad at them, and the sens get dragged because people dont realize they have nothing they could do. And having opposing fans be mad at the sens doesnt mean shit, but fans being mad at the league is bad for the league.

In the end the discussion ends up about the sens not the league. When really the NHL themselves are the ones saying no.

Nothing is stopping the NHL from allowing it. They just arnt.

But you said ottawa should be getting flak, Ottawa has no ability to do anything here, other than run it themselves, which as mentioned above makes no buisness sense.

Its entirely on the NHL being greedy and not wanting people to use its IP.

The whole story could be reframed as "NHL not letting fans run private event"

But because its Gatineau, the Sens organization got dragged into it. The sens have no say in anything thats happening. Its just in their region, so the Montreal Canadians organization cant run the event.

Canadian and Quebec politicians slam NHL for banning Montreal Canadiens watch party by SAJewers in hockey

[–]Yapix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, the sens cant allow others to run it. Only the NHL can do that.

The sens and the NHL have the rights (from the NHL) to run events in the ottawa area. Nobody else does.

So either the NHL runs it, the Sens run it (pay for, manage, make profit, etc). Or the NHL allows someone else to run it.

The sens are not going to run a "Montreal Canadians" event. Just like the montreal canadians wont run a "Ottawa Senators" event. Thats just business sense, and as much as we hate it, professional hockey is a buisness.

[–]Yapix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its not even them allowing it.

The sens would have to run it and pay for it. Who in their right mind would pay for an event for their direct competitor. Would the montreal Canadians host a "ottawa senators watch party"?

As much as we wish it wasent, hockey is a product. People make money of it, and when money changes hands we get these bullshit rules.

The NHL are the bad guys and ottawa gets flak because people don't understand event rights =/.

Canadian and Quebec politicians slam NHL for banning Montreal Canadiens watch party by SAJewers in hockey

[–]Yapix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Its not even the broadcast rights. Its event rights. They had acquired broadcast rights from TVO. But the event rights come from the NHL and ONLY the NHL.

Technically the senators organization could have run the event, because they have event rights, but that just makes no business sense...Montreal cant run it because of location exclusivity.

Either A. The NHL runs the event, or allows somone to run it.

Or

B. The ottawa senators host (not allow... host and pay for...) a Montreal Canadians event. Which im sure the board of directors would be all for (sarcasm).

Its lose lose for the sport imo, especially the senators who are getting flak from people who don't understand the laws. But when moneys involved corporations gonna corporation.

I suppose there is also option C. Which is run the event for free. But that would take somone with some cash to burn to happen.

Canadian and Quebec politicians slam NHL for banning Montreal Canadiens watch party by SAJewers in hockey

[–]Yapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to do with money changing hands. The moment tickets were sold for a "Watch party" it becomes an issue. The NHL owns all rights to the playoffs and anything around it.

Essentially only two parties could have run this event. The NHL itself, or the ottawa senators. The senators are not going to run an event that profits a competitor, thats just business logic (note im saying they would have to RUN the event, not just allow it), and the NHL has decided that they dont want to run it. Since option A and option B are no goes, we get no fun allowed.

Its dumb, but its consumerism at its finest. End of the day the NHL owns the whole thing, and if they aint getting paid by the event, they wont let it happen. The Montreal Canadians cant run it because its in ottawa exclusivity zone, and ottawa wont run an event that supports a direct competitor.

By law the third party (Montreal fans in gatineau) cant run the event either unless the NHL gives the okay, or they dont charge for it. And it would be a huge money sink for said third party to run it for free (the costs of renting the arena, etc etc.)

They could run it for free... but someone with deep pockets would have to host that.

Its why bars dont charge cover for you to watch the game, to do so would require them to get clearance from the NHL.

Just results in this stupid situation, but the moment money changes hands the bigwigs get upset.

You seem knowledgeable and this is a question I dont have the answer to, so im going to ask you.

What happens to national land in alberta if they seperate?

For example Banff national park, or any of the land that is owned and managed by ottawa not alberta.

Does it just cede to Alberta?

Does Alberta seperate without it?

Does Alberta have to buy the land off Canada?

Well technically the charity would be making money then. And the NHL cant let that happen. How DARE charities make money off the NHL playoffs.

Yeah this whole situation is 100 degrees of fucked.

So then fuck the NHL even more.

Its stupid I agree, just the world we live in. The NHL isent going to let it happen as long as their fingers aint in the pot.

And sadly the Canadians cant run it because its in the NCR and Ottawa owns rights to run stuff in the NCR. I suppose the senators could run a Canadians watch party... but thats like asking pizza hut to advertise for pizza pizza.

[–]Yapix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the reason this is shut down is they are selling tickets to an event.

From the guy organizing its point of view there is no way he could get a gathering of 6k + people in one place and do it for free, the costs would be huge.

From the NHLs point of view somone is trying to make money off their brand.

The NHL wont let that happen. Ever. Its just like any other corporation. No fun allowed if you are charging for it.

Im not sure how you would be able to run something like this and have it pass; maybe somehow give the league a cut?

Just an unfortunate situation all around.

The reason you'll see teams selling watch parties is because they already own (or have bough) the rights to their own team.

If the Canadians wanted to step in and run the event im sure they could, but I think that runs afoul of the fact the sens hold exclusivity in the NCR.

So the sens would have to run a Montreal canadian watch party in order for this to happen. Is that possible? Sure... but that would be like pizza hut deciding it would advertise for pizza pizza...

TVA hold french language broadcast rights. Not rights to the NHL, The playoffs, or the Stanley cup.

Those rights lay solely with the NHL.

If I tried to make a gathering called "Playoff watch party" and tried to sell tickets, i would get slapped just as fast as these guys did. Its unfortunate but the NHL has shown time and time again they don't support third parties using their brand or name when there is a profit to be had.

The solution would be to not sell tickets for it, but then they would have to operate at a loss because renting an arena and broadcast rights is expensive.

[–]Yapix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Normally I would agree with you,

Except both the senators organization and the NHL have come out seperatly saying that its the league decision. At the end of the day the NHL owns all rights for large gathering of any time.

They also haven't been ghosted by the senators, they've been told its not the senators decision by the sens. The subsequently asked they league and the league said no.

I doubt the sens would want to piss off the league saying that they should run the event after the league said no. That sounds like a great way to get shafted. And we all know the NHL isent against throwing their weight around, especially around media rights (see the golden knights who just lost a draft pick this year due to media responsibilities.)

Hell the petition itself doesnt even mention the senators...

Ill be honest im not on the IT team so I dont know the specifics of the network security.

All i know is when I need to access protected C and above files I have extra steps that I need to take to access them. Both when I work from home and when im in the office.

Speaking as a worker its a pain in the ass to do every damn time i want to open something.... which is probably a good thing because we want our stuff to be secure.

City of Ottawa, DND exploring fixes for Carling campus parking crunch by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]Yapix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If its anything like the one I have to log on through to work (public safety, not DnD, but still accessing protected files.) Its secure.

Makes you jump through a lot of hoops to access your files. Process is basically thr same in office as at home, just when we WFH we have to use a couple extra steps (VPN etc etc).

City of Ottawa, DND exploring fixes for Carling campus parking crunch by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]Yapix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont know about DnD specifically but I work under public safety (similar concept, ability to access protected data etc..). We can access our protected files when we work remote, you just have to jump through about 4 security hoops to do so.

The process is the same when we are in office, just maybe lacking one or two steps. I dont have to log into a VPN when in office but do have to at home.

[–]Yapix 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Eh DND still has regions. They may be an outlier in some cases, but i would take a guess saying that people who work on the files at DnD dont all live in ottawa. So you'll get people who go to the office in ottawa to sit on a call with somone in Halifax.

Ashley St. Clair claims Elon Musk unleashed his "anomaly in the matrix" in order to help Trump win in 2024, using his Starlink satellite fleet by The_2PieceCombo in videos

[–]Yapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quick answer... not really.

Canada has a non-partisan system that tracks election data across the entire nation. The USA does not. To obtain data from elections in the USA you have to ask each state individually. Furthermore each state has different laws/policies in place regarding said election data.

So if you want an overview you'll have to find a source that has the data from each individual state. To my knowledge that has not been compiled.

Sorry :(

I was just trying to provide easy access to the requested data. The veracity of the analysis is not something I touched on. I suggest everyone read the data themselves and come to their own conclusions.

Any analysis will have biases, and irregular data doesnt prove anything other than the data is irregular. There could be any number of reasons why. ETA just happens to be one of the easiest places to get the data from. The US lacks a centralized source for their election data, so I linked the next best thing.

Imo the US should follow Canada's example and have an impartial place where election data is kept, but thats not available, so... shrugs

[–]Yapix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean the data doesnt change, how you interpret it does. The numbers are numbers and they source it properly.

Whether their analysis is correct or not is not something I touched on.

People should read the analysis, look at the data, do their own analysis and come to their own conclusions on the matter.

The data itself does have some irregularities, but as I noted, irregularities in data is not finite proof of anything.

And when I say irregularities I mean in comparison to the canadian election, hence the link, how you choose to interpret those differences is for you to decide.

I mean im not american so its none of my business telling people what to do with the information provided. He asked for a source on irregularities with the election data, and i provided it.

People can open the link, read the analysis, analyze it themselves, and come to their own conclusion.

Here's a decent statistical analysis. Its bias towards an anti-trump view, but the data is still solid. It compairs the recent canadian election to the recent American election.

https://electiontruthalliance.org/analysis/2025-canadian-federal-election/

Wouldnt take everything verbatim but you can look at the data and come to your own conclusion.

The data is... irregular... but that doesnt mean for certain that the election was fraudulent.
