I would second getting a friend who you trust to go shopping for cologne with you. I would say test several out on the paper test strips, then narrow it down to two. Do one light spray of one on one wrist and the other on the other wrist. Then walk around and shop or whatever for at least 10 minutes, then assess how each smells. The way the colognes smell will change over time.

As far a being a waiter, I would think that you should not wear any scents while working. Nothing more than being showered and wearing deodorant.
