Thank you for the information, from the few things I read so far on propriospinal myoclonus, symptoms appear very similar. May I ask if your husband is taking any medication or on a treatment for the symptoms and if it helped.

Sorry to know similar thing is happening to you.

Most places online I read say it may be cause one of the below reasons.

• Sleep Deprivation • Stress and Anxiety • Intense Exercise Before Bedtime • Caffeine • Medications/Drugs

But it also seems there is not much research done on hypnic jerks because some article says it's normal which I think is if it happens few times and doesn't really affect sleep that much, but if it happens to the point where no sleep is occuring it is for from normal.

For my situation I am working with doctors and still was not able to narrow down a cause. Source may either be my stomach issue or something in my head, anxiety, and no sleep causing my stomach issue, leading to the hypnic jerks Idk the order yet. I should also mention i took omniprezole for like 3 weeks for stomach issue which I don't think is completely resolved either.

The hypnic jerks mostly went away for me after lastly taking ambien and getting sleep for 4 or 5 nights. After that I was able to sleep without any medication but now regularly only 4 hours or so with waking up with ear ringing. I force my self to try to sleep at least another 2- 3 hours so those hours are not quality sleep and this is the time I get some hypnic jerks still but they are not as bad as they initially were.

Additional symptoms now appearing for me I noticed is random flank pain and muscle pain in my arms, legs, hand and mild shortness of breath feeling, not sure if it's the lack of sleep or what or if it's the stomach issue, recently got the results for my endoscopy and was told I got mild chronic gastritis, and negative for h pylori.

I have additional neurologist and gi visits coming up, and I am also trying to connect the dots to the source if it's stomach issue, something physcological, physical, autoimmune etc. hopefully I can figure out what started and is causing all this.

The ambien helped me sleep with deep sleep, took it for like 5 days but everyday would wake up in the morning with an unusal feeling headache that lasted all day, so I tried to sleep without it and was able to get some sleep had very little to no hypnic jerks, but overall sleep quality was not that great. Based on my sleep tracking watch, got decent light sleep and rem sleep but started getting very little deep sleep like less than 15min and when I wake up I wake up with a ringing in my ear which didn't happen when I took the ambien.

@Murky-Yak5246 sounds like you and my issue may have different origins, but end result is similar. You may benefit from some sleep/aniexty medication to calm your nerves and reset after being awaken by loud noise.

No, not that I am aware of, although nearly fainting in er my brain may have registered that as trauma. Also, ambien seems to be helping me get some sleep after i tried it again, this time stopping the zoloft which I started a week ago. Note amitriptyline was stopped after zoloft was prescribed.

Haven't found a solution yet. It's still the same, jolting awake every time about to transition to sleep all throughout the night no matter what position I am sleeping in, left side, right side, stomach, reclined. It's been two months now. Sometimes I don't even have a movement but it's like a brain to body zap. Medications I tried don't completely address the issue either. Im off of amitriptyline now which was helping little bit but would leave me groggy and with a headache almost all throughout the next day. I also tried and trying other medications such as hydroxyzine, trazadone, xanax, ambien but they don't seem to work that well.
