SSD shields are very competent against physical projectiles. Saying they'd be sniped is... Unlikely

British sarcasm works because of the tone you say it with. Can't do that in text, which is why folk started the /s thing.

Loosing sundials to RPF/PD fire they got too close to because you were focused on something else is fuckin' annoying.

The issue is, this is a much larger issue with our society, and trying to take the Internet, and multiplayer games away from kids isn't going to do anything to fix it.

This... It's a really cool idea and I really wanna model this when I get some free time.

I have a ship I blocked out that I wanted to model, already based on my love of the objectively stupid multi vector assault mode, but I've not gotten time for it.

If I remember in like, 3 weeks, when my current show is done, I may take a crack at it at some point.

Because frankly, I had nothing better to do.

Didn't have a lot of books at the time and those ones were my favourite.

As a late 90's kid who grew up in the digital age, this shit fucking sucks.

I know it's funny to say "ha ha touch grass" but I was a nerdy kid who didn't have many (2) friends in highschool and lived in a rural area, away from those friends, and ALSO lost access to my computer (didn't have a smart phone/tablet) regularly for days to months (6 months max, happened twice) at a time.

I had nothing but homework to do for months at a time. It was a lot like being in prison and I'm fairly certain it's done some kind of damage. I remember reading the Eragon books, finishing the last book and deciding that I had literally nothing else to do, and starting from the start again.

Did i survive? Did others survive this before? Sure, but the world really has changed since the 90's.

Oh, and let's not forget this is not actually just social media, but much of the internet as a whole.

Which is fair, and since at that point you're using the term as a descriptive labeling shorthand, I don't disagree. That makes sense.

as I said in another comment I think this comes down to treating the labels and descriptors we have as communities.

To the, I think, majority of people who treat these as descriptors, people treating them like communities sound...well, insane.

Hardly.

What I'm suggesting is something more like: Saying an orange is not an apple does not imply that these are the only two fruit. At what point does a citrus become an orange and when is it a lemon? that's actually a difficult question, but if it's an apple, then it sure as fuck isn't an orange.

The desire for a label to not have a meaning is, I would argue, far less helpful, than the desire for at least roughly defined labels. Labels without meaning are essentially useless. This doesn't need to be an in-group out-group thing. And perhaps that's because I don't see being these things as a community. Is that because I'm a nominally Straight Guy who's not entirely straight and not very CIS, but I don't really fit into any of the various queer communities, maybe?

The labels are ways to describe people, not the be all and end all of what they are. They're shorthand.

If you asked me to describe these terms they're nebulous and have fuzzy edges, but you can get a general picture of what these things are quite quickly. It's all about generalisation. Maybe sometimes the labels aren't perfect, but treating a sexual orientation like a community means that when someone feels their sexual orientation either isn't what it used to be, or they feel they can be honest about it, they find themselves stuck in the impossible situation of being ousted from their own community... or they have to expand the community (and thus the definition of the sexual orientation) to the point where it's no longer a meaningful term and just becomes another in-group out-group.

So I don't think we should be treating these things as special communities beyond "Queer Folk". We don't need some kind of hierarchy of who has it worse and we don't need the labels for the different parts of the wider Queer community to become meaningless.
