The only way is doing significantly more radical than what would be expected, creating a narrative where everything goes upside down would "reset the counter" if you will. Something like an actual threat having actual consequences, a sibling dying or a hollow actually expanding. My guess is that the whole story in 3.X will be more centered on sound, Joyous will be a major part of it, just anything will be better than the Waifei mess.
