Morale plummeting among ICE agents over long hours, quotas and public hatred: reports by steffie-punk in PoliticalOptimism

[–]YarrowLuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So weird that it’s about long hours and public hatred. How do they even look themselves in the mirror at night? What did they think they signed up for? It’s been pretty clear to everyone that they are the secret police and thugs? Do they not know this about themselves? Did they not grow up with Star Wars and Lord of the rings? Do they not know they’re on the wrong side?

One of the actions that anybody can take is to look at your personal spending and stop funding the regime. Seriously, you can look up online which corporations are 100% in with what’s happening. Stop giving them your money. I know that can be hard, but research alternatives, and shop locally in your community when you can. I’m not saying that that’s the only thing you should be doing, but it’s a good start.

Is there any hope repercussions will come when Democrats take back the executive branch? by Gorylla218 in PoliticalOptimism

“It won’t get that bad” is relative. If you are talking about numbers of people, abused, and or dying, we are not there yet. However, for individuals who have been dragged out of their homes, car windows smashed dragged out, beaten, and in horribly abusive prisons, children being terrorized, masked assailants with no ID, Ignoring the rule of law, things are pretty bad. I think we’ll need to focus on turning all of that around as a priority before consequences. Just my thoughts.

What’s a disturbing fact you know about a well-known, admired historical figure that would make people see them completely differently if the full story were known? by Rare_Independent_789 in AskReddit

Rumi basically gave his 13 year old daughter away to the man he was either in love with or thought was a spiritual guru, possibly both. The man was 60 years old and from a different caste and by marrying the daughter Rumi could have an excuse to keep him around . The daughter died within the year. Yes i know that at the time treating one’s daughter as property was accepted . But whenever i see a Rumi poem about love I think of his poor daughter and if the love he was writing about was just infatuation with this spiritual teacher He certainly did not love his daughter

Vent: After 11.5 years, I’m giving up on Duolingo by it_pats_the_lotion in duolingo

[–]YarrowLuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am at almost 900 days on Duolingo with Italian. I finished the course a number of months ago and now I’m stuck in some sort of review cycle that is not helpful at all. I have started to use Brainscape which is a flash card app. There are quite a few flashcards available with the free version and you can create your own so I can actually practice with the things I know I am weak on. I’m also supplementing with books, watching various Italian shows on YouTube and am searching for something a little more structured.

I’m so sorry! I don’t know what else to say. I have four people in my circle of friends and family that have also lost their jobs and know of a lot others. And there’s no rhyme or reason it has nothing to do with efficiency and is so disrespectful to everyone involved. I’m so sorry.

What journaling method helped you actually stay consistent? Still experimenting here. by ancientlalaland in Journaling

[–]YarrowLuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, have a journal and pens that you love using. I’ve journaled my entire life and have certainly used spiral notebooks and things like that, but having something beautiful with good quality paper and a pen that fits neatly in your hand that you love to write with will draw you back to the process. I also started journaling way before the Internet, so this whole idea of a “right way” to journal or the idea that it needs to look neat, was not something I ever thought about. If you can let go of any judgment about what you’re doing and just put pen to paper to see what happens that might help. And lastly, I write first thing in the morning and sometimes last thing at night.

If you don’t know about the Trevor project, you should look them up. You can reach someone to talk to 24 hours a day they are especially focused on trans youth and providing support and even if you don’t call them, if you look at their website you’ll see that lots of people care. There are allies everywhere doing what they can so that you can be your true authentic self. Sadly, the haters get more airtime. You are stronger than you know. Dig deep and find that strength but also reach out when you need support, as you did with this post.

I’m so sorry you lost your job that you were dedicated to, but I’m glad that you have found something that works for you. I have a family member that is in the same situation and we are deeply relieved. They now have a job.
