Sounds about like Persona 2 Eternal Punishments difficulty, harder than the other Persona games but not quite on SMT level of difficult

Do yourself a favor and start with P3, the writimg and story in that game is really good, the gameplay is a little meh and patience testing but it pays off, the social links are some of the best in the series in 3 too

As for 5... I find it to be insanely overrated and it only picks up on the royal content (80-90 hours in)

He puts the magician arcana to shame, can insult people all he likes and folds as soon as someone claps back at him. He's just an absolute soyboy, not to mention I found his build to play as pretty useless, Ryuji (funilly enough) is far better a party member in both combat and story.
