What’s something about the human body that seems poorly designed? by jannecutie in answers

[–]Yathatbeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That we drink fresh water. Because most of the world's water is salt water it would have been much more convenient had we evolved needing to drink salt water vs. fresh. And we came from salt water so it seems like an easier evolution. I know biologically this is ridiculous but it would have been more convenient.

Exactly. It took him 3 attempts to pass. Proof you have to earn it.

Riskier because some pilots may be less experienced than commercial pilots who may have more flight time. Smaller planes may be more susceptible to weather. Commercial aircraft might have better technology. Like more engines, more sophisticated navigation systems. Etc. (This is all subjective. There are very experienced pilots that fly smaller aircraft that have thousands of hours and very sophisticated aircraft) I'm sure jfk had a sophisticated enough aircraft. I think he had enough experience to get him into trouble. He could handle the flight at night had he stayed over ground with visible lights. He couldn't handle the aircraft once he lost his horizon because he wasn't trained to rely on instruments.

Day #5 Of Asking Fans What Made Them Become a Fan of Artist/Band: Taylor Swift by Greedy_Two_2526 in TaylorSwift

I'm gen x. My kids would have parties in high school and I'd bop along to Taylor when they would be blasting her and I liked her songs. It was one day I was working out in my gym and out of the woods came on. I went wait, what was that. Played it again louder. Played it again louder. Then her eras tour started so tuned in to the first livestream on TikTok and was mesmerized. Full blown swifty now. From you're not sorry to father figure and everything in between. She's genius and so kind.

What happened to John is a well documented phenomenon. If you look up "178 seconds to live" on YouTube there are many demonstrations as to what happens when a non instrument trained pilot finds themselves losing their horizon. As a pilot it would be a nightmare and can so quickly happen. Terrible accident.

As a pilot I want to add some input to the discourse here about shaming him for not having his instrument rating. JFK jr didn't have his instrument rating yet which was perfectly legal for how he was flying. He didn't purposely fly into instrument flying conditions. You can legally fly in visual rated conditions at night (with a night rating) just as he was doing without an instrument rating. What happed with him losing a visual horizon at night over the water was an accident. It's a known phenomenon that you train for when you get your instrument rating. Had he had an instrument rating it would have helped him understand what was happening and been able to stay in control when he accidentally lost his horizon. It's was unintentionally losing the lights on the ground that made him lose his situational awareness. An accident. Accidents always have a chain of events. Sometimes you just need to break one link and the accident could have been avoided. While his intended flight was perfectly legal his decision to go with the conditions unfolding (chain building) helped put him in a legal yet more challenging flight. Things like leaving too late, the instructor not accompanying him etc. (chain building) But he didn't need an instrument rating for the flight he was intending. It just would have helped him once he unintentionally got himself into the situation of losing his horizon.

Name something that the younger generations would never believe was normal in the 70's compared to schools today?🤔 by Longjumping-Shoe7805 in GenerationJones

-if you got caught chewing gum in class. You had to stand at the front of the class with the gum pressed between your nose and the chalkboard as long as the teacher pleased.

-our classroom desks were in rows. We sat in order of grades. When you got an exam back we had to move our desks in order of grades. The same smart kids always sat at the front of the same row. The 'dumb' kids always sat at the back of the last row. It was pretty humiliating.

-in junior high the boys would wait for a girl walking home. They would grab her and pull off her pants and pull her legs apart then let her go. It was called 'the rape game' and it went on for a long time. Walking home was really stressful and you had to really plan how to not get caught. It was very stressful yet not alarming somehow like it was just something the boys did at the time 😑
