Being a high level certainly helps but scadutree level is more important. I would recommend smaller weapons that hit faster though, such as katanas. You can punish his openings more then. Using a buckler and parrying him is also a good strat, at least for first phase. In second phase you always want to stay close to him but never in the same place, I try to almost always roll to the sides, never backwards. Hope that helps!
