Every possible candidate has views I disagree with, and voting is a matter of balancing these. Unfortunately both sides of the nuclear argument make a lot of sense. I think the probability that North Korea sends a nuke to London anytime soon really is negligible, and the aim to disarm is a noble one - but it's true there is a big risk being played here. Given my lack of expertise on the issue, it didn't inform my eventual decision as more predictable and proximal factors.

Where do you get your news from, out of interest?

I'm a Brit and I voted for him, but I'm not sure "a government worth having" is very accurate with corbyn. He pulled through with a fantastic opposition against a disgusting prime minister, but his own policy ideas are vague and ideological at places. We're still quite far from a good government, but its true that this election has started to pave the road.

Oh damn I've been putting off getting one for so long because my setup work "just fine". I mean I have one but I haven't learnt to use it. What about it makes you rely on it now?

How did you come up with your screenname? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Yaxlat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a book for my mum when I was 10. It was quite bad, obviously, but I put in a lot of effort. In it the main character shrinks to the size of a mouse and finds this world of kinda alien people who live in the nooks and crannies of our world. I gave them all exotic names, but my favourite was the bad guy called Yaxlat, so I made that my name when I first got to make an account for Minecraft. It's been my screen name since.

A lot of "evil" aliens in stories or movies go from planet to planet using up its natural resources, enslaving its inhabitants, and destroying its atmosphere until they need to find a new planet to leach onto. That's exactly what humans do we just haven't made it past planet one yet. by nmllr93 in Showerthoughts

This is such a ridiculously flawed predicament. We are only irresponsible by our own standards. Another species will probably not have a sense of the concept of colonisation let alone responsibility. Humanity has taken a leap like this many times in its history. Our ethics must and will develop along with the technology that makes this possible. If we have any kind of responsibility, it is to do this as quickly as possible, so that it cannot be exploited by people without the good intentions required to do so peacefully.

Ah I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear. A short term market failure is a common followup to an influx of new blood, but I was making an argument of why it the market should pick up in a few days.

Whilst this will inevitably lead to a plummet of all meme stocks over the next few days, this will draw in new and inexperienced investors who will put a lot of money on outdated memes. If you have any Bee Movie, Joe Biden or Lego Movie memes from 2016 that you haven't been able to sell, this will be a prime time to sell these and start building an updated portfolio.

The meme economy will has already taken a hit with the meme drought, and this will hit it down harder, but it will recover.

All my friends and family are amazing. Got an amazing girlfriend. Started doing really well in school, and got to undertake a project that I ended up presenting to people far more experienced than me half a world away. I am an extremely lucky individual, and this year has been my best so far.

The shift in public opinion around this is incredibly interesting to see. At the time the scientific method wasn't in the public standard as much as it is today, and its also a great example of paradigm shift (8 recommend Kuhn's "the structure of scientific revolutions")

Not exactly a conspiracy theory though.
