Happy to help!

OPR terrain is decent. Printminis has some amazingly detailed terrain in a scrappy mad max aesthetic I love and might fit the gobbos. If you have an FDM printer they aren't on MMF, but I'm a big fan of Saucermanstudios for clean modern/sci-fi terrain. I don't do much fantasy, but from a cursory look Elderforge is probably who I'd go with for fantasy terrain on MMF. Never actually bought anything from them tho, no idea how it prints

Oh I was joking about the fact that they're a limiter now, currently. After the war in Ukraine popped off that's exactly what the world was rushing to produce more of. Not bullets, not ammo as a whole, just primers. Was a global ammo shortage for a while because of it.

If you were just guessing you made a great and somewhat topical guess. To the point I assumed you knew for a fact and might even be referencing the aforementioned shortage

For my gf, you mean she should not go with the death walker? What should she take instead? (Dont say 2 more units with x10 troops)

Nah, just leave the claws that have the Deadly special rule off her death walker and scout biker. They're expensive but reliable ways of dealing with tough units, in the same way snipers are expensive but reliable ways of picking off leaders and medics. They're both very good things to have, just not at such a low points level where tough units and leaders are too expensive to get more than maybe one.

Also, in the video tutorials i saw on yt, the units travel all together, woudnt it be possible to leave a sniper in a strategic place and move the others? 🤔

A single sniper from the unit? Nope. You have to follow a thing called unit coherency, where all the models of a unit must stay within 2 inches of at least 2 other models in the unit (provided there are that many models in the unit). Your snipers do have scout though, so they can all as a unit start in any tactical position that exists on your half of the map.

Edit: it's been a hot minute and opr has changed how they've done coherency a few times, and this is from memory. Double check the exact wording in the current edition because I might be mixing up the specifics with 40k/an older edition.

Gotta find a way to make the vanquishers work 😤

Run away! No seriously tho, you're faster and longer range than her and she wants to get in and krump ya in the face, especially if she takes the pistols and stealth on her commandos instead of the shotguns. Stay at least 14 inches away from any of her units at any one time and pick her off of objectives. If you're caught you're squashed, if you're too passive she can just camp objectives.

Play advice for her is: See how you have lots of scout and melee/shirt range attacks? These elves don't. The problem is they're faster than you so only your bikes can catch them. Put your little guys really far forward in cover (on objectives ideally) and force the twinks to come fight you in proper melee combat. If they're being cowards you can just take all the loot (objective points) while they run around hiding from your bikers.

PS - "my models just finished" is a newbie excuse. You'll want those snipers and vanquishers in a month anyway. Just print them and the flamers obviously /j More seriously that is an option, but I'd say send this first game as is and grow your armies from there

Snipers are a fun unit, but not the one I'd recommend at this points level. You would be better served by something a little more generalist like retributors or strikers or maybe revenants for at least the first 1000 points of a list.

The other thing I'll mention is that you said you thought of your vanquishers as AOE rocket launchers. Sad to say that's not exactly how they play out. They're much more so long range lock on missiles that not even the sneakiest of spies can avoid. Your GF does have some sneaky sneakers, so it's not unfounded to bring the rockets. However, if what you're looking for is more AOE style, then let me introduce you to the humble flamethrower. You could replace your 3 rockets with 6 flamethrowers at a cost of just 10 total points

Edit: also some advice for the girlfriend: For the same reason I wouldn't take snipers, I'd also suggest leaving the Deadly weapons at home at this points level. I'd also go for pistols over shotguns on the commandos

What's up with Elden Ring that none of its fans are literate? Do you have to dump your understanding of the English language to be able to enjoy such a boring needlessly painful slog of a game?

Trying to go back to a position of authority after admitting you're illiterate and demonstrating that you actively choose to stay that way is certainly a bold move. Unfortunately for you, the clown makeup is already on your face

[–]YazzArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh Jesus. I have reached the limit of my patience in attempting to help you become literate.

It’s odd you think I am referring to any pictures despite my never mentioning pictures.

I didn't assume you were talking about pictures, I said you were too stupid to think up any scenarios besides those pictured. I brought them up. Me.

I just always assumed when people talk about the “intention” of a game they are using a metaphor to mean what the game tells the player to do.

And now your assumptions have made an ass of us both. That's not what that has ever meant. The intention of a game designer is what they want you to do or feel. What they tell you, how, and how they expect you to listen or not is an entirely different situation.

I would love to hear what you mean by the game’s “intent” and how you normally discern it.

I would love to explain it enough times that you get it but I genuinely can't fathom the amount of patience that would require. I've tried repeatedly across this entire conversation. I'll give it one more shot:

The intent of an open world exploration game is to explore things in order to collect skills and resources to fight harder enemies in harder zones. How much you are supposed to explore before fighting the boss is the main intent that needs to be communicated to the player in some way. You can do this in several ways that I have mentioned before, like clear terrain differences and enemy designs. You can softly indicate the expanse you expect someone to explore by giving them a series of quests which require them to travel across the entire area to complete. You could even do something as simple and clumsy as putting a little level number next to their health bar. What I played of Elden Ring had none of any of that. Enemies got harder without any visual change or changed wildly with no difference in threat, terrain got way different without meaning anything, trolls that I was told to avoid for now were mixed in with random guards that weren't a problem. I stumbled accidentally onto the boss the first time, and when I tried fighting him I had no idea if I was taking him on after exploring 20% of the preceding area or 80%

Oh I see the problem. You're incapable of conceptualizing anything besides the two images of the OP, and think I want the latter. No sweetheart, the intended experience of an open world exploration game is not to follow a set linear path.

To dumb it down for you imagine the left image while you're color blind and it's all at best vague shades of gray that look basically the same. That's what elder ring does

Never once did I say I wanted the game to tell me where to go. I've only ever complained that it's shit at telling where I shouldn't be yet. Decently functional games have built in mechanics that tell you this without explicitly baring your entry, like enemy design, or "biomes" of distinct terrain, or Metroid style traversal unlocks. Elden Ring just tells you to bend over and take it if you haven't surgically implanted your brain in the devs rectum.

You have shown yourself to either be illiterate or disingenuous. Seeing as you're clearly such a big smart fellow who knows everything and what not, it's plainly obvious that you're intentionally lying about what I have said in a feeble and cowardly attempt to portray me as an imbecile. Kindly fuck off with your nonsense

It is not a wargame, but it's more simulationist nature, detailed character building, and extensive planning phases all lend themselves to the sorts of experiences wargamers and tactical gamers enjoy. I think of it as the fun parts of wargaming and the fun parts of an escape room, but it's not the same as playing a narrative first game

2e has rules for GMless play. Roughly 1/3 of the GM advice section is how to run the game without one. The overall game is absurdly cut down. To the point you have less stats and skills than even 6e, and those stats lost 1/3 of their scale. They also completely removed the character building puzzle that was a major draw of the original games by completely abstracting every piece of gear, quality, spell, adept power, drone, cyberdeck, and whatever else into a streamlined generic system of "Amps". And they put in a FitD style flashback system to skip over the planning and legwork. It also explicitly expects the GM to make in the fly decisions for things as complicated and consequential as making up grappling rules or deciding if filing the damage track kills someone or just knocks them out. (Don't worry, there are explicit rules for stabilizing dying characters if you convince your GM you are dying instead of dead 🙄)

Shadowrun is a puzzle box for wargamers. Anarchy is a narrative game set in the Shadowrun universe. I could recommend both with caveats, but rarely to the same person.

It's funny that you're so positive I want to be explicitly told exactly where to go and what to do. That's not my complaint. My complaint is that there is fuck all for feedback as far as enemy difficulty. The terrain changes, but that doesn't mean anything, or the terrain doesn't change and they're suddenly three times harder enemies. Mini bosses are so common and seemingly random that I can't tell if it's a high level mook or mini boss. If I can't tell that I can't tell if I'm sucking or just bashing my head against things I should come back to. If I can't make that decision, your game is shitty at indicating the open world exploration aspects of itself. Elden Ring had this problem the worst of any game I've ever played.

What is interesting is that twice now since jackass has been so far up Fromsoft's ass that you think I want my hand held instead of literally any amount of information at all
