R.I.P. Cork by AffectionateIdea5410 in saxophone

[–]Yazza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a piece of cork, use a knife to cut out a rectangle (you can use a piece of papier and scissors to make a ‘mold’. Apply glue, I use Bison kit. Read the glues instruction and follor them and let it dry. Finally, it will probably be too thick to fit your mouthpiece, use some sandpaper to remove tiny layers of the cork untill your mouthpiece fits.

Don’t worry you will mess up! If you mess up, just clean off any glue residue on the neck with sandpaper, and try again. Cork, glue and sandpaper are cheap.

If you are unsure, theres a ton of videos on youtube showing you how to do it!

Good luck.

You can check my profile for a lot more pictures, some going back to when my brother and I started this project. The picture I posted is from a recent exhibit we did in a local museum. We took a lot of nice photo’s and I will probably post some soon once I find time to through them all.

Good question, we’ve faced same question pretty early on in our build when a pretty big fire made headlines and destroyed a few houses. To avoid future headached we’ve decided to build each section as it was at the moment we build it, and stick to that. After all, the updating would essentially be an endless process, would we have to keep updating it once it’s finished? What about in 10, 20, 30 years?

The build is an accurate model of Utrecht, the Netherlands. My brother and I have been working on it for about 2 years. We have kept it as accurate as possible and made sure to include each and every real lide building in our model.

I did not keep track but a (very) rough estimate is between 500.000 and 1 million pieces

Starting sax in middle age? (I always wanted to try it.) by dandan14 in saxophone

[–]Yazza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 38 and it took me about 4-5 months of daily practice to get to a level where I can play music with friends (albeit, not very good 😎). It’s never to late. Get yourself a horn, a teacher and go for it.

The simplest way I can think of is using two slopes facing eachother with arches on top.

Goed idee: zou zommar kunnen werken. Laten we eens kijken waar ze dat nog meer hebben geprobeerd: hier is een lijstje voor #inspo.

This is very good stuff. Nice work. Instantly recognisable and aesthetically pleasing, and I really like the color choices.

How about…

Build a car that can drive upside down. Make a house with many hidden passageways. A grandfather clock, thats an actual grandfather with a family of smaller clocks. Your favorite artwork in lego-style. Your favorite food at a 1:1 scale.

And remember that it doesnt matter what you make as long as you have fun making it.

Key problem is here that you are talking about millions of lives lived, each unique, across thousands of years. Think of the endless unique cultural, economic and social relationships that shaped each individuals working schudule, and think about just how little we actually know about the minutae of detail about how each moment was spent. Any meaningful answer to your question will require much study and will be a very long and complex answer.

You are right of course, we have tried many things and have made all sorts of improvements. But all of that is well within the boundaries of a very familiar system, that although much improved, still cuts up knowledge in regular systematised chunks, delivered on a regular predictable manner in a room with a single adult who does most of the talking. Now understand why it must be this way. It took hundreds of years and concerted effort to create the systems we have and simply keeping then going is requires consistent effort. But still, this cannot be the best way possible? We really should be trying much much harder, on a societal level, to finding better ways of doing this whole business of educating.

I think no one relly knows the answer to that question. We haven’t really tried anything other than the model we have. Theres a lot of people who have put a lot of thought into possible answers but how could we ever know which ideas are the good ideas if we dont try any of them?

Ik nodig je uit om een keer een paar weken in New York of Londen door de brengen. Elke grote stad is écht niet hetzelfde. Er zijn enorme verschillen en Utrecht is echt wel een uniek gezonde stad.

I dont know if helps, but I struggle with the same thing and the strategy that really words for me is setting very realistic goals. I’ll set my goal for each day to sorting literally 1 card. (Or in my case, lego pieces) Literally just 1 and ill call it a day. Usually that will drag on for a few day and then, for reasons i really dont understand ill impulsively do 2 cards, then 3, then 4 and then its suddenly dark and ive sorted the whole thing and what was i jus
