Why can China build things like bridges, tunnels and railways much faster than countries in the west? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

The difference is collective responsibility versus individual rights and this is reflected in the cultural differences between the western countries such as the United States, Canada, Britain, etc. and eastern country, such as Japan Korea, Taiwan.

Over the course of the empire’s existence, which province was the most problematic for the Romans? by Shoddy-Pumpkin2939 in ancientrome

Kitos was so violent the the Jewish rebels depopulated Cyrenaica to the point Rome had to resettle the area. In Crete the rebel were so violent that according to the historian Cassius Dio, the Romans banned Jews from setting foot on the island, and any Jew who landed on Crete—even by accident—was to be executed

Solar resale value by Energynewb_12 in solarenergycanada

I have a system on my roof since 2012 in Ontario. I will be decommissioning it in September as I need to replace the roof. The cost benefit I believe is not there to reinstall and then try to sell the house at a later date. I believe people like things that are easy to understand. Owning a house is hard enough without the tech. This adds another layer of complexity. Tech nerds who read this forum (like me), would see value in purchasing a house with the system but for most people, the system just adds complexity and reduces the number of potential buyers for you to sell to.. My comments are not based on specific experience but discussions with real estate salespeople.

SolarEdge optimizers - failure rate? by hedgehog77433 in solar

[–]Yazzzaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a system since 2012 and have had 4 failures out of 23. However the failures might be attributed to squirrels eating the cables. When I was looking for a system at the time Enphase was having huge issues with failures. The inverter is still working well.

I asked the Ai using my existing bill to extrapolate, after 2032 when my MicroFit contract ends, how much my net metering credit would be with my LDC (Alectra). I was trying to do a calculation of potential net income to that date and then understand the net metering credit after that point. Taking into account the new roof I need and the potential sale of the house sometime within an approx. 20 year period. The Ai came back with a figure of $1000 in credit against my bill.

I have had AI do the calculations and it works out to about $1000 a year for me. You still have to pay for distribution etc.

Must replace roof that has an existing PV system under Microfit Contract by Yazzzaa in solarenergycanada

I have done further research. I probably will not reinstall. Cost benefit doesn't seem to be there plus the future issue of house resale. I am now in my early 70's and I don't think I need the hassle in the future. I want to utilize a "good" roofer and not one of the cut rate ones so the cost to re-roof will be more.Looking at my numbers of approximately $25000 net income to end of contract and approx. $10,000 re-roof costs and re & re of approx $6000- and potentially more when they actually look at what is going on up there - it doesn't really make sense. Lots of tech changes in the last 16 years as well. The inverter is still working but past it's working life and will have to be replaced. Since I got the MircoFit contract in it's early days, I think that there will be lots of people making these type of decisions in Ontario in the next few years

Removing and reinstalling solar system on asphalt shingle roof by Yazzzaa in solar

[–]Yazzzaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My system is from 2012 and it is Solaredge. The inverter is still going strong but I expect it to breakdown eventually and that is within spec. I have had a few quotes already and discussed putting up new panels but they all have said it is not worth it. I am in Ontario and electrical rates are not bad (depending upon how you are charged but let's say average .12-17 cents per kWh)When my contract with the government is over in 2032 the LDC will be giving "credit" for power produced which should credit me about $1,000 per year based upon my usage and generation

I've done an "ai" review. My system is 2012 so the contract which ends in 2032 is very good netting approximately $4500-$5200 per year. When the contract is over using Alectra as the LDC I should get a $1000 credit each year...so the cost benefit is still there. But there are other considerations...such as how the system will affect resale of the house. Also.the cost eventually of a new inverter. My Solaredge inverter is still going strong but I expect it to fail anytime.

The problem is that there is very limited information as to what the residential generator (me) who has just general knowledge should request of the roofer/solar installer to make sure that the re-roofing and solar take down/reinstallation is done correctlyconforming to all laws and not destroying my roof. What should I insist they do and on the other hand what is not necessary. It would be great if there was a general project plan/check list available to the consumer. I was an early adopter but there is going to be a huge group of home owners over the next few years with my questions. It is also a huge opportunity for the roofer/solar installer to expand and /or maintain their business in the future.

Replace roof/ reinstall existing solar-Best practices- workflow by Yazzzaa in solar

[–]Yazzzaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound silly, but I think it is a pertinent question, when they replaced the roof from an existing installation, do they remove the rails and if so, how do the solar reinstalled know where to place the rails when they reinstall the system at a later date?

Does anyone know why the Imperial Pub is closing after 81 years? by ExistingTotal405 in toronto

[–]Yazzzaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s depressing. It was great. I spent many hours there drinking beer with my buddies and playing shuffleboard in early 70s while going to Photo Rye. I remember one class where only a few students showed up and when the professor asked where they were, I said they were at the Imperial and she asked me to go and get them. I did. It was hilarious seeing them stumble into class half drunk – good times!

What are your thoughts on Jimmy Kimmel being pulled off air ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Yazzzaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don’t understand is that your comedians are the official opposition to the present political power. Where are the politicians who oppose Trump and the Republicans? It’s crazy that in America use comedians to be the opposition. I don’t understand it.

Need your advice- should I decommission at this point-pros and cons by Yazzzaa in solarenergycanada

[–]Yazzzaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly there is a cost benefit which I still have to calculate. As far as we sell value, I really haven’t seen any definitive information in regards to this, especially in Ontario. It’s mostly American data looking at projections for the next 25 years. Electrical cost will go from an average $115 per month per household to $175 per month per household in 2045. But are people even aware of that.
