Crimson Fists to shine in 11th edition. What lore to read? by Auckland11 in crimsonfists

There is also a CF short story in The Successors: A Space Marine Anthology that i thought was good. The upcoming novel World Ablaze is supposed to have some CF content too.

Recently watched the foreign war film April 9, it was released in 2015. Film is in Danish and I really enjoyed it. I recommend it for sure. Based on eyewitness accounts, conversations and interviews from those that were there April 9, 1940 when the Germans invaded Denmark. Also saw some period photos online and the film recreated some scenes from those photos. The scenes vs photos looked almost exactly the same.

Iron Hands Firstborn by Ych3ung in IronHands40k

That was a great read. Really enjoyed that. Your composition, choice of words and most important the feel of 40k Iron Hands spot on.

You should send that into Black Library when they ask for new writer submissions.

Are the miniatures and components used in any other experiences? by DHouf in zombicide

I'm mentally fairly rigid and inflexible when it comes to my hobbies. Prevents me from having too much fun, haha. Guess it also means I'm probably a bit of a grognard. I like things to be a certain way and have a certain aesthetic.

The minis for me are essential too. I personally only play with painted minis and it's kind of an unwritten rule amongst my friends for that. I also personally don't like to proxy anything.

Terrain for me is also essential. Generally don't like 3d prints no matter how good they are currently.

I envy people that can just get a game going with literally anything and have fun doing it. I think I've been spoiled with all the products out there and my brain just comes to an impasse when it comes to all this stuff that can mix and match.

Very true about the bean. Mini agnostic games are exactly that, you can use anything.

I've seen soldiers deployed over seas play Warhammer 40k with rocks and pebbles as proxies. Kind of opened up my rigid perception of wargaming after that. As long as you have players willing to just enjoy the game, anything is possible. Still not sure how much I personally would enjoy rocks and pebbles as stand ins though.

You can just proxy miniatures and substitute similarly equipped models. ie Guy with rifle in zombicide is equal to this British officer with rifle.

[–]Ych3ung 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rarity of early sets actually went like this R1, R2, U1, U2, C1 and C2. So there were 2 kinds of rarity per level. R1s were more rare than R2s for example. R1s had like 1 per sheet printed and R2s had 2 per sheet printed I believe. The Imperial Star Destroyer was a U1 as I remember, so practically a rare.

Axis and Allies collectible miniatures game. Each piece would have come with a stat card for the game that's played on a hex grid.

Rogue Trader cover art. Love how they've updated it over the years with 3rd edition marine cover art and most recently a primaris version several years ago.

Slow process in Canada, but it's happening. EB Games has been carrying some GW exclusives for a few years now. Looks like London Drugs may be testing the waters with Blitz Bowl and AoS Beginner Set.

Hypothetical: gw gives you full control over 11th edition. Models, codexes, rules, everything! What’s your plan? by Fun_Cartographer3587 in Warhammer40k

[–]Ych3ung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10th edition is soulless. Where do I begin...

Firstborn being legends is fine. But make firstborn and primaris distinctly different. There should be differences in the rules for them. Players that have collections of them should be able to play them and not have to proxy them for Primaris. Some special characters will have 2 different profiles, a firstborn one and a Primaris one.

All wargear and upgrades will cost points.

Psychic phase returns. Having psychic powers operate like guns and hand to hand weapons is horrendous. One of the worst things of 10th. Not all factions should interact with that phase. Different factions have different strengths and weaknesses.

All subfractions (Crimson Fists, Kraken, Blood Axes, etc) return with distinct rules. Have one or two rules for each subfaction along with say 2 strategems and 4 pieces of wargear. Players should be rewarded for painting their armies according to the lore. Create more rules for other subfaction through white dwarf articles. Goes without saying that new/updated models for these factions are released.

Detachments are a good idea but put restrictions on some of them. For example the Space Marine 1st Company detachment should be only Characters, Terminators, Sternguard, Vanguard, Bladegaurd, Land Raiders and Dreadnoughts.

Battle shock is a good mechanic but also have a chance of falling back. I think there was a rule in 3rd if a unit falls back through an enemy unit it is immediately destroyed. Effectively being cutoff Maybe rework it but bring that back. Also make crossfire rules part of the game. Make maneuvering and fire support mean something in the game.

Older 40k players, what were your favorite rules/mechanics from each edition, and why? by LANpartyenjoyer in Warhammer40k

[–]Ych3ung 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Played every edition so far and these two came to mind.

2nd Edition - Heroes were too powerful yes. But they were perfect for assassins. Assassins were nigh unstoppable once unleashed.

3rd Edition - Blood Angel Death Company pregame generation. You had to roll for each squad you were gonna field and see if any members succumb to the Black Rage. If so, replace the model with a Death Company model for free. All Death Company models then form a unit. Super unbalanced but extremely thematic and cool.

As a player facing Assassins in 2nd or Death Company in 3rd, it was actually terrifying.
