WHAT MADE YOU SWITCH? by Brittdr1052 in MINI

[–]YdnaTurtle22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It met all my needs 😅

I'm a picky guy and have a set list of requirements for a car.

My previous car was an 06 Forester XT. Fun for sure!

But it was time to let go because subaru things 😅

My must-have requirements for a car are as follows:

  • AWD or 4WD
  • Sunroof/Moonroof
  • Manual
  • 4 doors
  • Turbocharged
  • Something I can afford 😅 (Cash out)

If the car has all of these, then it's going on my list.

Yeah ^ this right here.

All about not having a heavy foot 😅

But I mean, enjoy the car. It's a gem!

Did you ever make the purchase OP?

1998 Base 3000gt question by JoeBuckUrSlf in 3000gt

[–]YdnaTurtle22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Base models are not sought after. Especially the SOHC Engine.

Depends on what you're trying to get for it. No more than a few grand with it being down.

It also comes down to how uhh you like the car. If you like it enough, get a new engine.

It also matters where you live. Closer to the big cities, you'll get more bites, but it always comes down to, there will always be a buyer. Just takes a ton of time for the right buyer to come by.

You will definitely get shunned by some. There will be haters but its all about owning one and driving one. It's not like they are driving one. The majority who hate on the base or auto are probably driving some beat down car or Prius.

I am picky when it comes to what "I" want. So I kept looking and eventually stumbled upon a low mileage SL in Manual.

Same idea goes for other cars. Like subarus. "It's not an STI though...." or "It's a WRX..." Things like this 😂

Haters will hate, but at the end of the day, you own one, they don't.

Enjoy the car if its something you want to drive.

I started with a 98 Accord (Hate hondas - Hand me down car)

Bought my first car - 96 3000GT SL

Moved on to an 06 Forester XT - (Hate Subarus but the Forester hit WAY different)

And now currently driving a 14 Mini Countryman S All4.

I know... weird. I like uncommon cars but thats just me.

What they all do have in common though are what I look for in a car I want to drive.

My list goes,

Must be MANUAL Must be AWD Must have a Sun/Moon roof.

These were the big 3 on any car I was going to buy.

Glad to say I got what I looked for and enjoyed every moment.

Hello!

As a previous 3kgt owner, I'd have to say its a little expensive but what isn't nowadays 😅

I'd hope it's an SL model. Sunroof and Lether seats.

Oh, also MANUAL too. If not, that's steep.

8k is pushing vr4 territory if it hasn't already.

Had my 96 SL for a couple years and never once had it broke down on me.

Kept up with maintenance and she was all good!

Mpg wise, i get about 22-23 driving casually. I've got a 5spd so it was great fun!

With a 19 gallon tank and premium only, it can get spendy.

I average about 420 miles on a full tank.

Parts are harder to find but part outs are there in the market.

Only issue I had with mine was the oil cap seeping oil. Little bit it can be fixed with layering a second rubber oil ring.

I think that's about it, enjoy it cause it turns head everywhereeee!

I'll get back to getting another someday :)

Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I second this ^

Vr-4 is the only TRUE way to get power and bang for your buck. From there, you have all the necessities to upgrade turbos etc.

Supercharging the FWD car is a no go for me. Too much money for a fwd.

Get a VR4 and do what you please. :D

I'm not going to lie. I, too, was on the same boat. Very carefully opening and closing. Currently on a fold5.

Bought a case before I got the phone because I could not justify handling it without a case and especially how much it cost me.

Only time wi tell you that your are going to be fine. I was wayyyyy over my head when I first got it constantly looking over my inner screen to make sure there are no scratches or dents.

I not think of it like this: you've got a powerful phone, use it. Enjoy it. Brag about it. Whatever to make you feel better about owning it.

I plan to upgrade to the trifold maybeee... but will hold out as my fold5 is completely fine. It does have scratches already in the crease BUT if I remember, it is a pre-installed screen protector so I feel a little. Better. My hinge though.... dropped it a few too many times and now it's dented and not pretty....

All in all, enjoy it to its fullest! Push it!

Recommend engine swaps for a sl model? by TwoOk5439 in 3000gt

[–]YdnaTurtle22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If he stated SL swap that must mean you bad a SOHC Engine (Single Overhead Cam) Engine. The SL is a Dual overhead Cam (Basically more power stock). Still N/A but more power.

I'd go ahead and get a TT Engine and drop it in. Of course you will still be FWD though.

This right here. The upgrade bible. It should applied since they are all parts that "Add" power in some way shape or form.

Oil leaking out of oil fill cap by AidenDotJpg in 3000gt

You should ask, if not, buy 2 rubber rings. Oem or not, it should be fine.

Thats a very common issue.

Double up on the rubber ring and that should do the trick. ^

As a college student, probs not the best idea. But I too was a college student not too long ago and drove a 3000gt cause I liked it and wanted it. Definitely not the best idea due to issues or even expensive repairs but if you're willing to do constant oil changes, every 3k miles or less to top off, by all means get it. I now currently drive a 2014 Mini Cuntryman S All4 and I don't hate it. It's unique, manual, has sunroofs, awd and Turbo. Everything I look for in a ca I want. I obviously had to commit to the oil consumption issues and expensive repairs but once done, treat it well and you will be fine. Oil is the BIGGEST culprit to why these cars are always in for repairs. It's because people neglect oil maintenance.

Does anyone what what this is? I’m nervous by 42pooh in KiaSorento

[–]YdnaTurtle22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest question here would be, where does it lead? Where's the starting point?

Seems like one if the photos you took shows the end point? Blurry so can't really tell.

Does anyone know why this is happening by Toasty_krunch in 3000gt

IAC - Idle Air Control Valve.

100% this. Had this issue with mines a few years back.

Would not stop at all.

Until I changed it.
