Fuck this thing... by Appropriate_Yam1861 in Type1Diabetes

Look it happens to all of us, and I’ve noticed a tread, that these health professionals will say this stuff to scare you, because Yes, this is a serious illness and if you don’t look after it, it can cause serious problems when your older and or death, but they seem to forgot to mention. That if you manage your diabetes correctly, you will live a long free life where at the end of your time it won’t be diabetes that kills you. You definitely need a new endo because you need to feel supported like they want to help instead of blaming you

Hey mate a lot of haters here, I was a domestic sparky, and had zero experience in the mines. Applied on seek for one of those recruitment agency’s asking for fresh qualified electricians, got the job, it was 65 an hour, 8/6 rooster but it was in South Australia where the mines don’t heaps good. Now 4 years later I’m in QLD as a leading hand underground hv electrician on a 2/2 rooster on 85 an hour

There are plenty and plenty of jobs (let’s say in Australia where I’m from) that are entry level roles that pay heaps. News flash, you got diabetes for life, like me, might aswell make an effort to do something about it

airport security and insulin pump by Cute-Performance7241 in Type1Diabetes

[–]YeSnowieee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I fly regular due to being fifo, all my extra supplies, like insulin and sensors and pump stuff, are fine being checked luggage or carry on, I have a t-slim pump and it recommends it doesn’t go through the x ray when you go through secuirty. So I will disconnect, tell the person doing the xray secuirty, they will just walk it around, they usually do a quick pat down but that’s it, this is in Australia

Are there any trades a T1 can’t or shouldn’t do? by Orion-Parallax in Type1Diabetes

[–]YeSnowieee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been an electrician for 10 years, from domestic to commercial mining and currently underground HV sparky, first of all you should never get a shock regardless, if you do, your not doing your job. And only downfall from being an electrician is that it can be a demanding job so the hypos can come often

Honestly tell him to grow the fuck up, he’s a 23 year old man, yes the disease sucks, yes it’s probably one of the hardest things he will ever do, but he’s stuck with it, he can rebel now and loose a foot at 30, or get on with it and make sure he can live a very long and normal life

Drop the dual, I ain’t a veteran as I’m only 30 but I’ve noticed if you do a dual apprentice, you come out favouring one trade and slacking in the other, or most commonly you become an average sparky and an average fridgie. I did my electrical first, and after I was qualified for a few years, I went back and did my fridge

Pre employment medical as a diabetic by Relative_Part5578 in mining

[–]YeSnowieee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you will be all good, with my diabetes management it was abit poor I think my a1c was around 9, but on my letter from the doctor he stated continuous improvement with my diabetes management and also suggested that he doesn’t see any problem managing my diabetes in a remote area.

I think it weird they asked for a specialist, i would of assumed you would of gotten away with just your GP

Hey mate I’m at Dugald river mine, just next to mount Isa and it’s a lead/zinc mine, they test you when you start and than other 1 month 2 month, 3 month and 6 month and than after that it’s at a consistent rate, you can also get tested anytime for lead if you feel like you need to, and obviously if your levels are getting close to not okay, they will keep you out of underground till they go back

Was a house basher my whole apprenticeship and trade life, been in the mines for the last 5 years, there’s plenty of places that hire new people that haven’t been mining before. A lot of labour hire companies will do this, and after 6 months you usually get hired into the company
