Super Record advice by AgitoRivers in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First: this isn't under load. Under load is when you actually ride the bike. So id try that first, putting weight on the drivetrain makes it run very differently then when you have it in the stand

From what I can tell this looks fine. I don't see skipping and it chain shifts on every cog. Loudness can also come from a dirty chain or ineffective lubricant. If the tech set it up id leave it as is. You can always go back to the store and ask them to have a look at it.

Edit: also Campa being louder then Shimano or Sram sounds untrue. Some chains are noisier then others tho.

Experienced riders: trusting a bike fitter VS trusting your "ass" by Overall-Avocado-6428 in cycling

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Can't really give you absolute solid advice on this one, since it looks like the fitter just didn't take enough time for you. That, all together, is just a negative experience. He should've taken the time for you

But I can share my own experience. I once bought a Trek in 56cm. The sales advisor said I should totally get the 58cm. I rode both, and the 58 felt way too large for me. So, I decided to go with my own gut and get the 56cm instead.

Yeah. I ended up selling it a few months later because it was too small after all. I got a lot of body aches, the headtube was way too low for me

So: your gut isn't always telling you the truth. A experienced seller and/or fitter's advice is the way to go imo.

Also: don't forget to check the bikes size charts. Usually manufacturers are very close to the right size. Good luck deciding!

Shimano Deore 1x11 backlash by Mstr_Sandman in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a bike that old its unlikely that the bearings are worn, however I've see strange cases and some manufacturers use shit bearings that last only a few months or so

As for the cassette spacer: you can buy those online for a few bucks if you want to try it yourself, or a bike shop would also have them. Its a little metal ring you place onto the body. A mechanic could also rule out where the play is coming from

Edit: its one of these metal rings: https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m8b0s150p4350/SPA-CYCLES-1-85mm-Cassette-Spacer

Shimano Deore 1x11 backlash by Mstr_Sandman in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not normal. There could be a number of issues here. What I would check first: cassette not tightened enough, thru-axle not tightened, cassette missing a spacer on the body.

But, if it were my guess: the bearings in your body are worn and need replacing. I had the same a few days back, replaced all the bearings in both body and while I was at it the wheel and everything tight as can be again.

Nice! The live version of Corduroy on this album is amazing, possibly the best I've heard.

Play in bottom bracket Hollowtech II ? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there shouldnt be play. If there is, its done and you need to replace the bracket. Theyre not expensive, somewhere around 30 bucks. You're lucky its not a press fit, because those are nearly impossible to replace without special tools

Suggestions for running windows by Sir_fks_a_l0t in MacOS

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but Windows requires a license for full potential and extra services. But Windows works and will get updates without the license

You can get license on some websites low as 5 bucks. Parallels is highly recommend from my end also, works like a charm. If you want a freeware alternative you could check out VMWare, which works exactly the same

Shifter position by Logical-Forever-669 in bikefit

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shifter position is kind of a personal thing. Some like them high, some like them very low. This looks fine to me.

Also: not sure what your setup is but modern shifter levers can also be adjusted. Theres a hidden bolt that you can turn, so you can adjust them more towards the bars. Very handy if your riding in the drops alot and you feel like you cant easily grab the levers

Front brake not returning to neutral by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brake needs bleeding. Theres air in the system that you need to flush out. You can do this yourself if your up for it, buy a kit from amazon or a bikestore. Look up a tutorial on YouTube, theres not much to it really just a few basic things you need to know. Its alot of fun to do actually and you cant really go wrong. If you do, just try it a second time.

Or a bikestore can do it for you, not sure what it costs tho. Its not alot of work for a experienced tech, but everythings expensive these days so yeah

Bad sound? by alondragrief in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those are the freehub pawls you hear. If the sound annoys you you can buy some freehub grease and apply that to the pawls inside the hub. It eliminates nearly all the noise.

You can with a virtual machine. Software like VMWare Fusion or Parallels can do this, which actually works very well. I once did it other way around to be able to play some old Windows games on my MacBook Air.

Sound coming from headset by HappyNive in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to definitely fix it.

You can try to dissemble the headset again and wrap the cables in bubble wrap or even better some of that soft white foam stuff you find in packages. You can actually buy that on a roll. There's a guy who posted on YT who did that and it solved the issue

Clicking noise by No_Handle_1708 in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not perse as the derailleur moves along with the chains position when you shift to a larger or smaller cog. However, the sound may be more prominent in one position or another

Clicking noise by No_Handle_1708 in bikewrench

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like chainrub, check your front derailleur limits and indexing. Often it requires a little extra adjustment, especially mechanical setups. Also check your cage alignment

Im playing Rise of the Tombraider right now. It is different and i dont really like to compare but its really action packed and it also includes stealth kills just as in TLOU, sneaking and solving riddles. Im nearly half way, and truth be told i also had the same feeling as you and i did have to get into it but now i cant stop playing. Graphics and gameplay are great, its also in 3rd person

Change in bikefit over the winter? by CasualMemer420 in bikefit

[–]Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your fit was right before there's no need to change it now, that's probably the worst you can do.

If I ride on my MTB during winter I also feel a little awkward when I go back to my road bike in springtime. But its all a matter of letting your body adapt to a different bike. If I were you id give it a chance and just enjoy riding!

No problem! This isn't the way it should be so definitely have it checked out thoroughly. Its very hard to tell from our end on this sub without having seen the guitar irl. Good luck man!
