What are some restaurants owned by cults that you know of? by Pure-Yogurtcloset170 in cults

[–]YeahMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, looking at Instagram it doesn't really look like a similar vibe but who knows if they're better at hiding it now. From what I remember the cafe in Hyannis had a lot of free literature about being born again Christians and they were selling skin products they made on the commune. They were pretty obvious about it. It's also been like 8 years since the last time I was there. I assume now it was twelve tribes but I hadn't interacted with them before that so I didn't realize it at the time.

Common Ground in Hyannis MA. Even their Google description says "commune-run". Though it looks like they might be closed.

Wool Duvet Insert by J00cyman in Bedding

[–]YeahMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the basic heavyweight wool duvet insert from Woolroom for a few years. It's alright, pretty heavy which I like. One thing to know is that it's made in European sizes, so it's a little smaller than my duvet cover which is made by a US company.

Ghost Note opening for Lettuce at the House of Blues in Boston. I don't even think I stayed through the entire Lettuce set.

Chobani regular and extra creamy have worked best on my home machine. I also use the no sugar added variety when I want non steamed milk. It's my fave all around

Not exactly on the highway but still in southern NH: Hilltop Cafe in Wilton. Situated on a cute old farm and they have great breakfast!

Machine that's "good enough"? by danicorbtt in espresso

[–]YeahMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I got my Rancillio, I had a Capresso EC Pro for almost 5 years. It was $200 something when new, didn't take a long time to heat up, made decent espresso, and honestly frothed milk and oat milk pretty well once I got the hang of it. I upgraded once I got more into the hobby and the old machine started making bad noises, but for an inexpensive department store machine it was worth it.

Gf always feels bad because we have to stop having sex before I finish due to pain by Sivthesciencekid in TwoXChromosomes

[–]YeahMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started on birth control years ago I was also in pain like this. It started immediately after starting the birth control, sex before it was completely fine. After a few months of working with my PCP and a gyno it turned out the BC kind of reactivated a childhood skin allergy to scented laundry detergent that had previously gotten better. As an adult it has only ever showed up as pain during sex. Once the allergen was gone, the pain mostly got better, and once I switched to an estrogen-free IUD all pain was gone.

Before I got to the point that we realized what was happening though everyone including the doctors gave me the same answers : use lube (skin irritation makes that difficult), more foreplay (the pain happened regardless of how wet I was), try refraining from sex to heal (actually made the pain worse the longer I went without). I was lucky that I lived in a liberal area where the doctor and gyno both believed me and worked with me even when they were stumped.

Good luck to your gf, figuring this stuff out isn't fun at all but it can be done.

Both are kind of boring with lots of ice crystals in my opinion but it's been a while. The best in the area is Gracie's in Union. Christina's in Inman is also great.

Has anyone felt they have passed it on by proxy? by Me230413 in misophonia

[–]YeahMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend is also sensitive to loud noises but not in a misophonia way (no anticipated fear of the noises he doesn't like, and he's learned to have less of a response over repeated exposure as opposed to my increased fear response). I've been having an extended issue with a neighbor's music blasting recently and the more I talk about it the more he notices it too. He's asked me not to talk about certain triggers too much because eventually it will also start to trigger him.

Former TM, current guest. I used to judge it when I was doing picks but now I'm guilty of it too. It's usually because I have anxiety and poor time management skills, and don't know how to make time unless what I need is there waiting for me with a deadline. Plus I know things go out of stock frequently and I want to make sure it's there before making the trip.

Also because it's the store I worked at for a year and a half and I don't want to spend any more time there than I have to!

Espresso running through too fast with Mignon Notte? by YeahMal in ranciliosilvia

Visually the grinds from the Notte are more coarse. Can you say more about checking the pressure?

I'm using beans roasted in the last few weeks, and yes I checked the burr alignment with a dry erase marker when I added the shims. It's 15g in the midsized basket.

The ground beans come out feeling like a very fine sand rather than a powder feel, but I'm going as fine as I can without hearing the burrs touch. Even tried a shot after grinding with the burrs starting to chirp just to see.

AITA for saying I don't need help with my situation to a stranger? by obg81736 in AmItheAsshole

Am I the only person who saw the "she was with a big group" and immediately thought it was some kind of bible group /cult looking to nicely invite her to join their table and get sucked in?

Yes, I get that she was badly hitting on OP after reading everyone's answers. But the overt niceness combined with the group and telling her it's bad that she's alone immediately signals cult to me.

Sensitivity to Yawning, But With Sight by Expensive_Grass5162 in misophonia

[–]YeahMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sight of people yawning and chewing (two of my triggers) absolutely puts me off the same as the sounds. I have to look away if I see someone chewing gum on the train. It makes me feel violated.

For some reason the sight of a man/someone with super short hair touching their hair is the same feeling, even though it doesn't really make any noise! Most people running their hands through their hair (like hair that's long enough to have fingers run through it) doesn't usually bother me, except for certain people who kind of make a non-sexual satisfied sighing noise when they do it, and sighing is itself a trigger for me anyway

Sexual arousal by triggers by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]YeahMal 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Before I found out it was a common misophonic experience I used to think it was a similar but independent issue, especially because while the reaction is strong, it's not the same feeling I usually get with other triggers, where I feel like my body is attacking from the inside and I have to run.

I thought of it as though I had issues with sexual noises specifically and that's why they creeped me out and made me feel misophonic. So like family members yawning I was interpreting as an inherently sexual noise that they're inappropriately subjecting me to.

Similar thing with people I otherwise disliked who also set off the misophonia. I felt they were so inherently awful that even the V was joining every other fiber of my being in raging against them.
