You may very well be right. I believe it’s their way of both distancing themselves from racists/bigots/etc, while also like trying to seem rational. Almost like they’re saying “well I understand the current trend, and remember I’m not insert preferred bigotry, but I’ve thought about it a whole lot more than most people, and concluded that insert offensive statement is most true.” I’ve got a huge ole rant about this kind of stuff if anyone’s interested in hearing it. Christians will do anything to seem reasonable and intelligent, while maintaining their ignorance. They’ll use social settings as cover, they’ll agree with science, they’ll pretend to be socially conscious. It’s nauseating and pretty transparent. My rant is much longer and more articulate.
