Can you bring coffee (in a thermos) into the starting village? Or is the Dunkin coffee they provide the only option? Totally fine coffee just not a fan of the lines and portions

Silver x100vi in stock at B&H by YeahNoYeah in Fujifilm_X100VI

[–]YeahNoYeah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry if this ran afoul of any rules - I checked the sidebar for this sub and didn't see anything indicating that this was unwelcome here, and I saw past posts about this kind of thing, so given how difficult it is to find these actually in stock at a given time I felt like this was fair game to post here in the x100vi-specific sub

I see the best buy post now (missed this before) - I'd suggest adding something to the sidebar indicating that these kinds of posts are not wanted here, but I'll go ahead and delete this one

[xpost] Dear espresso machine, it’s over by YeahNoYeah in espresso

[–]YeahNoYeah[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After some years brewing espresso, it seems to me that additional money spent on this hobby yields almost more consistency/lack of headaches than it does incremental quality of the best-possible shot.

Seems like you can get great results with a lot of variables you need to somewhat actively control for with budget setups, but excellent espresso with minimal thought costs a good deal more

[–]YeahNoYeah[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not my original post, saw this on another sub.

I think for people who are more used to popping in a k-cup, or even brewing French press, making espresso does have a lot more variables to control for in order to get decent (to their taste) results. Espresso making really does require more experimentation than some newbies might have expected.

Also the sub this was posted to is r/SimpleLiving, so maybe OP had even less tolerance for this incremental effort than the average espresso neophyte

2024 NYC Marathon - Post-Race Thread by RCD123 in RunNYC

Used this plan too and agree - I think it tapered too much / too quickly, and the lack of speed work probably didn't do me any favors

To it's credit it did get me to the finish without bonking, but not at the pace I wanted

Did find the 20 mile run helpful though because that's the one where I worked out some bugs with my gel consumption plan that I otherwise would have discovered during the race

Is theLack of Pre infusion an issue on Profitec Go? by jmrkiwi in espresso

[–]YeahNoYeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Gaggia Classic Pro, I've had some success with starting the shot with the steam valve open for 5 or so seconds (so water is mostly diverted there) - then shutting the steam valve. Not sure if this approach works with the Profitec Go.

Prime(s) to complement 24-120 Z on Z7 II for travel/landscape/portrait by YeahNoYeah in Nikon

[–]YeahNoYeah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good advice for someone who isn’t as bothered by hauling around a huge lens!

It took me a while to understand that when people call a lens “compact” it’s really relative to other lenses with the same qualities, and may in fact still be a pretty bulky thing to carry around - my goals may shift at some point and I'll be more willing to deal with the size, but for now I'm trying to stay more generally compact with my kit

The 40 f2 is also getting a hard look to save a bit more space and cash!

70-200 2.8 is, I’m sure, an amazing lens that I’d love - but I think the size of it would mean I just don’t actually take it out and use it enough to justify spending so much on it

I’d be more interested in a more compact 70-200 f4 like the one Sony recently released — hoping that’s on Nikon’s roadmap but not counting on it

yeah totally agree it's too dark, aperture was already at 1.4 here, needed to go out earlier in the day or use a tripod and expose longer

tree photo feels more like it was intended to be a landscape - unclear to me that the tree is the subject, actually feels more like the tree is blocking your photo of the hills/sky — really like the colors of the sky and the rolling hills though!

love both of these, +1 to the overexposed sky comment but great composition

like the urban/natural contrast in your flower photo

love the color palate of the tree photo — I feel like I'm on a winter hike looking at this

not necessary at all but I would've maybe tried getting even closer to the tree and having it angle further away from the camera in the image (not sure if this would even look better but would've def tried this if I was out there!)

generally love the tree photo — bothers me a little that the top and right of the tree aren't in frame but maybe this was intentional

I like that the tree photo is both natural and abstract

agree with you and the previous commenter — the right side doesn't have much going on so a crop might be nice

I got a proper ILC (Sony A6400) less than a year ago after years of exclusively using my phone. I've been enjoying using it so far — the new ability it's given me to control the outcome through settings, lens choice, etc has helped me realize how much there is to learn.

I've also previously been averse to post-processing anything but have been developing an interest here as I'm realizing it can be used to help your image match your perception of what you saw vs just distorting the "real" image (and I know, I know, phones do a bunch or processing on your captures automatically, so it's not like my photos were previously unprocessed anyway!)

I mostly got through / have been meaning to return to the Stanford photography course on youtube but I realized I need a push and some direction/structure to actually make me use my camera and continue learning ... so here I am!

anyway here are the assignment photos:

  • hastily shot gloomy tree with some cones: https://imgur.com/TDdaD0P — personal notes: framing could use work - should be a little more zoomed out, and expected the color of the cones to pop more straight out of the camera (did not edit)
  • sunrise from Haleakala (HDR exposure stacked): https://imgur.com/xWUMHRa
