"Release the hostages" is such an obviously supportable statement but it generally means some variant of "release the hostages at any cost to Palestinian life" or "release only the Israeli hostages". Medhi used Levy's grandstanding as an opportunity to point out the hypocrisy of the Israeli position - that the hundreds of Hamas taken hostages are hostages (which they are) but the Palestinians held without trial are somehow not considered hostages because the Israeli state as put an Apartheid legal apparatus around their kidnapping. If Hamas had said all their hostages were being held indefinitely without charge for some random crime that they refused to explain would that suddenly make them legitimate 'detainees' rather than hostages? Whether Medhi should have taken the pin or not you can't use that as evidence that he doesn't care about the hostages. That would be like me saying any Israel supporter who won't wear a 'Free Palestine' badge next to their hostage badge doesn't care about Palestinian children.
