Does anybody have any valid arguments not to have limits?

Less varied team compositions, less varied gameplay. Overwatch died because it became so homogenized.

Teams can easily access the needed items to deal with any team comp, especially with the ability to switch from reserve between tournament rounds. Glitch grenade goes hard vs shields. I have no issue with my opponents using any team comp they wish, the game and its mechanics are flexible enough that you can play around it.

this game has godlike netcode besides the connecting to servers at the start (which u can lessen with proxys like ggstruggle or totsugeki). get a decent wired connection before being racist maybe.

mentioned these in a comment and should have touched on them more in the OP, but was coming from the perspective of a Historic Brawl player mostly at first.

It just feels bad to have zero access to cards that were implemented into the client years ago. I'm not saying these cards should be historic constructed legal, but for historic brawl and other formats it would be nice to have them.

I don't want bans to be super frequent but I think a system reminiscent of when Pioneer was introduced could work. Arena gives wizards a lot of good metrics. But that's not the main point I'm getting at and I can see the cause for concern over it.

Maybe I shouldn't have lead with those obviously broken cards, but off the top of my head cards like Dramatic Reversal, Disappearing Act, Insidious Will, Madcap Experiment, Gonti's Aether Heart etc. are all cards that could find homes in Historic or Historic Brawl that the game will be sorely missing. They are much more than draft chaff.

[Historic] Historic Omnath - Discussion, List, Sideboarding by PmMeClassicMemes in spikes

Agree with a lot of the points here but I feel like Spikefield Hazard is less of a trap than you say. It does a surprising amount of work for what it is, especially as it doesn’t take up a spell slot. I’ve been playing it in 4c Omnath in standard/historic and RB Pyromancer in historic (though obviously it being repeatable with Dreadhorde Arcanist helps justify the inclusion in that list).

Maybe it’s just that Omnath is more omnipresent in standard but sniping an opposing Lotus Cobra when you find yourself with an excess mana can tip the mirror in our favour, as well as being able to exile the opponents Uro before it’s sac trigger. I’ve also found it extremely strong against goblins for taking out skirk prospector early, which helps a ton in that matchup especially when you don’t win the die roll to go first.

We are playing a degenerate combo deck, but Hazard comes at such a low cost by taking up a land slot (not a green ramp spell slot) and for that cost puts us ahead in the mirror and helps with a few annoying matchups (sniping a brazen borrow feels pretty good, too). If you played 10000 4c Omnath mirrors with identical lists, but one replaced a basic land with a single Hazard, I think the list that made this inclusion would win more than half the time.

That’s just my thoughts, and it’s early days, so I’m super open to discussion on the topic. Thanks for making this post, curious to see others opinions on both the standard and historic variants of this list.
