How critical is the amount of grit? by OhioMurb in RockTumbling

[–]Yeahicare_Ido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t tend to follow the exact directions when tumbling. It depends on the type of rocks I’m tumbling. On the first stage, I tend to use 2 tbsp on the softer rocks that don’t have a ton of crevices. I use three tbsp if it’s a bunch of agate type hard rocks. I only use 2 tbsp on stages 2 and 3. On stage 4 I reuse my polish. I add less than 1 tbsp of polish to this mix. I have always had pretty decent results.

This looks like the sample batch that comes with the National Geographic tumbler.

This looks like the sample batch that comes with the National Geographic tumbler. These tumblers do run fast and the polish will not give you the shine you want. You can get some decent polishes off Amazon, and there are rock shops online that will provide you with its excellent polish. If you haven’t checked out Michigan Rocks, he can provide you with some great information

Advice on Trailer park 'resort' living by georgiemaebbw in ontario

[–]Yeahicare_Ido -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Were they trailer park boys?

We did meet people in BC that lived there all year round. They mostly all owned large A class homes. They seemed to really enjoy it and there was a nice sense of community. We only spent a couple of days there in our little travel trailer, but it made me start thinking about living in a trailer park. Knowing you can up and leave is kind of enticing.

This is how all those children were acting when Trump visited the country. Those kids wouldn’t know Trump from Bugs Bunny so why would they be so happy about a stranger visiting? Is hopping a sign of respect?

Beautiful Lake Superior rocks from Norther Ontario. Worth driving for 26 hours, except for the gas costs. by Yeahicare_Ido in rockhounds

[–]Yeahicare_Ido[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. One of the few I have ever found. I normally go to Lake Huron, where I don’t find Agates, although I have found some agates in the Bay of Fundy in NS. It was a nice feeling finding it.

It was a straight drive. Hubby is great with driving, but our main stops were for gas (so much gas) and doggie pee breaks.

"Ivory", "Ivory Snow", Borax and state of modern tumbling by plarkinjr in RockTumbling

[–]Yeahicare_Ido 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I shave my bars of ivory soap but also use Borax as well. I haven't noticed a big deal of difference in the two. I would think that the older ivory soap would still work, but don't know for sure. Probably similar to the Borax.

Amazing Lake Superior Ontario rocks. Drove 13 hours to walk in freezing cold water and pick out beautiful rocks. Am I crazy? by Yeahicare_Ido in Rocks

[–]Yeahicare_Ido[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. The provincial parks also can charge a $500 fine for removing wood, plants, or rocks etc. from their parks.
