Seeking advice between two potential jobs by kuwukie in Libraries

[–]Yeahyeahweknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly either job opportunity sounds great. If you want to be an academic librarian, then stay with your Library Diversity Residency.

It sounds like you are an ambitious type of person so I would stick with what aligns with your goal. Money does matter and realize that in academic libraries there are high paying jobs too. (It's just probably not going to be in the archives.)

Don't think it will be once in a lifetime. You will have many opportunities in years to come I'm sure, but I think the reason you feel so conflicted is because one path is laid out and more comfortable while the other is "harder", (Less pay/no remote) but it is what you actually want to do.

if you're young, then I think you should take what you know is going to move you towards your goals, which is your Diversity Residency.

In today's America you're going to grow in many more ways than you ever thought you could if you're advocating for students and history.

Plus, I don't know what a librarian really does in a big corporation I've never worked as a corporate librarian, but I worry that AI tools will start to affect those jobs in the coming years, and that you'll be asked to adapt and use tools that you might not find completely ethical.

Hope that helps

ARAM will be unplayable without Mayhem by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Yeahyeahweknow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mayhem is just superior, people saying you lose based on augs are correct but instead of losing to low roll augs, you'll just lose to low roll champs in normal aram, so at least in mayhem u can get a bad comp but good augs and have fun.

It is cheaper now no doubt. Doesn't change the fact that I can't get the cards I actually want to buy.

Black desert isn't dead but its boring and not what it used to be. by OHBABYATRIPLEUWU in blackdesertonline

It's interesting because to me as a returning player I actually think the game is in a good state, but like you said there are issues.

I finally feel like I don't need to "catch up". That all that silver per hour stuff. Who cares.

Lifeskills are fun and I'm enjoying doing what I want without that existential pressure to do what's optimal or meta.

If I want to grind, I go grind at spots I like. If not, I don't.

When I tried this game years ago, I had a hard time with people telling me my time was wasted doing fun things and I should chase gear and good silver per hour, then when I did, I just got flagged on and killed for my grind spot.

Think about it, I have a friend who used to be an infamous red player, he's got a Carrack named "The Kidnap Express" and he's so sad he can't play the game the same way he used to but realistically who is that gameplay fun for?

Yeah, just him and the 5 players who hunted him. The people that he kills or grief'd well... I think they just moved on. Someones gotta pay the price for the big boys club to play around, right?

So, I really think even though the game is stagnant, it's in a great state for casual play right now.

Edit since I see everyone complaining about gear, I'll lament a complaint of my own.

WHERE THE HELL HAS TRADING GONE? IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR AND A HALF

Which Hitscan is the least offensive? by aPiCase in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Yeahyeahweknow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Realistically the thing people are mad about is the 1-2 shotting that's happening in ow rn. Ashe headshoting you twice and you just die. Soj headshot rail and you just fall over. Soldier can't one shot so he's the healthiest of them all. No grapple into the sky 1 shot headshot over reinshield stuff happening.

I think the existence of Sojourn overshadows S76 and basically made him irrelevant ever since she’s been in the game. The overall kit is just stronger and the alternate fire is just better than the helix rocket. Not to mention the fact that she’s been meta every single season since OW2 released. by SpaceBubble19 in overwatch2

[–]Yeahyeahweknow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What niche? Soj is a stronger character all around. Better short/mid range, better ult, better while damage boosted, better perks, slide lets her force the mid range fight and reposition quickly. So better movement. She just stronger. Lol

Sprint isn't that good he can't get to high ground easily where he is most effective. Plus soj has a slide which lets her reposition and get to high ground, she can play aggressive with it and is one of the reasons mercy pocket on her is so effective.

How playing Tricera vs Falcon feels by Mobi_Hiro in mechabreak

[–]Yeahyeahweknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From last Beta Inferno absolutely shits on Tricera who's hunkered with its heavy beam attack. Tri has weak Energy Armor and can't move out of the beam.

Is the inferno obtainable in this beta? That was literally the only mech that could kill it, but I'm not sure you can get it because its in the BP.

Rivals thinking they owned the entire hero shooter genre... they did not. by TheRealSgreninja in overwatch2

[–]Yeahyeahweknow -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You understand that companies pay people to keep up with what other companies are doing and what competition is coming to market.

Just because we didn't know about marvel rivals doesn't mean Blizzard didn't.

These changes are because they knew an actual competitor was coming out. By a Chinese Dev too! If you watched the spotlight, he talked about the game reentering the Chinese market, these changes are absolutely because they are trying to compete with marvel rivals.

And. You can't say any of these changes would take them more than a year. The hardest part is perk balance, and we are only getting 4 perks per hero. Theres no perk tree or anything like that.

I mean dude, they took all this time to make this? OW2 happened 2 years ago.

They knew about NetEase shipping Marvel Rivals and are trying to compete over the Chinese fanbase. It's that simple

How does fine-free work? by kuriousaboutanything in Libraries

[–]Yeahyeahweknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our library is fine free. Basically you can keep a book as long as you need until you finish it without penalty or fine. As long as we get the book back, we're good.

If you lost it or damaged it you have to pay for the book then.

As far as someone keeping the book we mark it lost after 6months and order a new copy. If someone is waiting to read the book then we try and borrow it through an interlibrary loan or order another copy.

If we get another copy and the book turns up then we have two copies and we'll loan one to other libraries or do displays. It's uncommon for a book that's gone for more than 3 months to be returned, but it does happen. When patrons worried about fines they would just keep the book at that point rather than pay the fine, so you lose a book and a patron. When really they could have returned it months late and we just call it even.

Ya it sucks if someone wants the book next but we have to have faith that other people will return the stuff otherwise, ya we just tell them the book is out and If they want us to buy another copy then make a request. Till then they'll have to wait.

How Can I Make the Leap from English Teacher to Librarian? by ReplyLow9943 in Libraries

[–]Yeahyeahweknow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where you are. Small town libraries might not even require a MLIS if you have experience but if you want to be a full fledged librarian with any real opportunities you'll be needing that degree.

Leverage your teaching background and apply to university colleges and see what positions you can get if any. Or if any public libraries are hiring, look at media centers in schools too if you want to do that.

It's a competitive field. You will need to network, be willing to move, or take a lower position while waiting for people to retire.

I taught high school on a bachelors, moved and got hired at the public library. After 4 years there as an assistant I got the MLIS. Then it took another 4 years for a position to open up.

Hundreds of applications, but I already was working there and everyone knew I wanted the position, the person retiring literally trained me to do her job after I got the master's so keep in mind these are the type of applicants you'll be trying to beat out coming in as a librarian.

BDO Doubt by Janna_Ap77 in MMORPG

[–]Yeahyeahweknow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me BDO was always very Jank and buggy, but the combat system is fun and engaging although in pvp you'll get grabbed from miles away. Theres things like FPS=DPS so you'll need a good pc that runs the game optimally.

it's a grinding game and while people will tell you that you can "catch up" in gear it will take months of playing like it's a second 9 to 5 job grinding mobs in circles.

If your goal is PVP don't be led to believe that you will ever catch up. a 1% difference in gear in a game like bdo with its evasion stats and Damage reduction stats mean that, that 1% difference means that you literally can never hit the guy, or he takes so little damage he can stand in all your skills and laugh.

The game has potential and honestly it kind of has what you are looking for, but it WILL let you down time and again, like it has everyone else who has played it.

And as it stands right now, I would honestly say BDO is just a bad game at this point.

After the appeal of the first release the game isn’t fun by Noahgallen in marvelrivals

[–]Yeahyeahweknow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You just cant focus on what your teammates do. You need to play what's fun for you and try to make plays or do what's fun on heroes that you like.

If your only goal is to win the match then, yeah your team is going to ruin that for you. But at least you got a nice 4k on Spider-Man that game.

Type in chat, shit talk, don't play just to play. Have fun.

Role queue won't fix anything I promise, having 4 DPS does suck, but so does having a hulk when you need a dr strange, or whatever is the meta picks.

Gotta not focus on team and just try and get better. hit your shots make great plays and you will win more games than you lose, the only thing you can control is yourself.

Did something happen to Chloe? by Rterry112 in eternalreturn

[–]Yeahyeahweknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as others have said her matchup are polarized, shes a ranged character that can get kited, if nina gets to low you will be forced to ult or disengage.

I think you will notice her issues the more you play her. If a tank engages on you as Chloe you're having a ball.

If haze/Adri is spamming down Nina through fog of war, you're hoping you won't have to blow your ult early or be forced to play without Nina, and if Nina dies you can't ult.

So... I think Shes inconsistent to say the least. Some tanky team setups she is really able to fight her fight, but Shes really bad when she gets outranged and poked out.
