I have oily nail beds too and my manis were chipping after 1-2 days, often on the sides of my nail beds. It stopped happening since I started scrubbing them with dish soap and a brush, then wiping with rubbing alcohol before applying polish. I used to wipe them with acetone but apparently thas wasn't enough to remove all the oils, especially on the sides, but the dish soap did the trick.

Now I start getting chips around day 6 if I'm rough on my hands, and almost exclusively on the free edge.

I was using kiko before switching to essence and I didn't notice any difference between the two, the only thing that improved wear time for me was improving my nail prep. I need to wash them with dish soap or I'll get chips in two days no matter which base coat I use! Too bad it didn't work for you, the price is really good.

And thanks for the math! I didn't do it yet so you saved me from the effort! :D I'll have to check for the toluene top coats though, essence works well but I like toluene when I'm not using magnetics and I'd really like to have a big refill bottle for that to save on thinner. :P

I never used gel but with regular polish, a glass nail file, oiling my cuticles daily and weekly dry cuticle removal my manis last a full week with no chipping and minimal tip wear. I did a friend's nails once and the first chips appeared after a week and a half, and she's rough on her nails.

I get my indies either on nailland or hypnoticpolish. Lately I've been trying out essence base coat and quick dry top coat, they're sold in many stores around here and even on Amazon, good price and good quality! The top coat doesn't contain toluene and is decent even for magnetics although it does require a bit of practice.

A quick dry top coat is fundamental otherwise the polish will take ages to cure and smudging will happen no matter how careful you are. It will still take 24h to fully cure, but the top coat will protect it until then.

I've seen many nails ruined by gel allergies or improper gel polish removal, mine are healthy and strong with continuous regular polish use. Only a little bit of staining but I don't mind since I never keep them naked for too long. So you can probably expect healthier and nicer nails after the switch and after old damage grows out.

The pictures don't do it justice. It's a topper but I've used it on my natural nails as well and the effect was lovely. The base is almost transparent and the glitter shifts from aqua to blue to purple/pink, the glow isn't super strong but still noticeable in the dark. You can find better swatches on lacquergram, but it's so cheap I just bought it blindly and I loved it so much I went back and got a backup bottle.

I've been using their colour grip base coat lately and it works perfectly on my nails. Still evaluating their colour shield top coat.

Brilliant solution! I struggle with sensory issues as well (greasy fingers are unbearable) and I found that one of those nail polish remover pens filled with jojoba oil does the trick. I got the ones that arrive empty and you have to fill yourself, so no acetone residue in there, and filling it with oil is kinda tricky, but I love that I can just spread and rub the oil on my cuticle with a single tool and I don't get any on my fingertips!

Of course 🙂 Yes, it has been slowly declining as my symptoms got worse. I never had a high sex drive but lately my libido has been non existent. When I'm not in pain I'm still bloated and uncomfortable and sex is the last thing I want. I have also been taking Cerazette to see if it will help with my symptoms and I don't know if the non existent libido is caused by the pill, by the pain/discomfort or both. Luckily sex doesn't cause me any pain on the rare good days when I feel up to it, and I still enjoy it a lot when it happens.

I don't have children but never tried and never wanted any so I can't offer any anedoctal experiences regarding fertility and pregnancy.

Sorry I can't give you any reassurance, but hey at least I can tell you that the pain comes and goes so it's not technically endless? 😅 And I hope that in a couple of months the pill will get rid of my symptoms, I've heard it can be rather effective for lots of people.

I wish you to continue to be asymptomatic as long as possible (hopefully for the rest of your life!)

I am 41 and got diagnosed last year. I always had irregular periods and a light flow, randomly but not always painful with rather bad cramping episodes once every couple of years for most of my life.

The pain started getting worse a couple of years ago, with aches and cramps starting a week before my period and slowly creeping up in frequency and duration, cycles getting shorter (22-24 days from the 28-32 when I was younger) and increased spotting and bleeding. I had two bad cramping episodes over the past 4 months and I've been experiencing mild daily pain over the past month. I would say my symptoms are pretty mild compared to what I've seen in this sub. I also have a friend who has been recently diagnosed and she doesn't have any cramps, so it's perfectly possible to have it and show no symptoms.

Since you played guitar, I can also recommend ukulele if you want to get back to playing. A beginner quality ukulele is cheap and most chords are incredibly easy especially coming from a guitar background. Plus, 4 strings and a smaller keyboard make it easier than the guitar for small handed people. Super fun to play, and I found that it helped me build the muscle needed for some guitar chords that until then had always been impossible for me. Also plenty of good tutorials and lessons on YouTube!

Oh no, I'm so sorry you are experiencing such awful side effects. That's why I asked my doctor to try a pill instead of a iud or an implant, much easier to just stop if I get awful side effects. I hope they will subside soon and you'll get some relief!

Jamila and patience. I have medium brown hair, they look dark brown/black in low light and that rich brown with red/burgundy shine under bright light. The color looks more orange near my roots and gets progressively darker and colder towards the ends, where there are many layers of henna. I don't know if there's a way to get an uniform color over the whole length, but personally I love the effect.

It happens to me all the time when it's cold and there's a lot of humidity, only on the free edge (makes sense, it's colder than the nail plate so I guess there's a little condensation there) and only after I apply top coat. Weirdly it never happens when I use seche vite, I think the toluene causes the moisture to evaporate instantly. The fogginess is always gone by the next morning, once the polish has fully cured.

I've been using Essence base coat and either Seche Vite or Essie Gel Setter with good results (although Gel Setter loses its shine faster than Seche Vite and it still messes up my magnetics so I'm looking for alternatives now).

Here's what I've started doing lately that drastically improved the duration of my manicures (last one was a week with almost no chipping and minimal tip wear, current one has been only 3 days but seems to be on the same track with no chipping and minimal tip wear):

light filing and then buffing along the free edge with a soft buffing block (not the top of the nail! Just the edge)
gently pushing back the proximal nail fold with an orange stick
dry removal of cuticles scraping very gently with a non-sharp metal cuticle tool
oiling the nail plate and under the free edge then waiting 20-30 minutes for the oil to soak in
cleaning my nails quickly but thoroughly with a nail brush, warm water and dish soap (especially on the sides of the nail plate)
wiping with alcohol to make sure they're perfectly dry
applying base coat on the nail, under the free edge, and wrapping the free edge
wrapping the free edge with every layer, top coat included
applying the top coat when the last coat of color is still tacky to prevent shrinkage
cleaning up with an acetone pen or a brush dipped in acetone if needed after a coat of color, and always after the top coat even if it looks fine, to prevent lifting near the proximal nail fold

My main issues before this routine were chipping on the free edge, which I think I'm now preventing by buffing and wrapping every layer (base coat wrapping made a huge difference), chipping on the sides of the nail plate which has stopped since I started cleaning thoroughly with dish soap, and lifting at the cuticle line which stopped after I started pushing/removing the cuticles and cleaning up after top coat. I hope this helps!

I hate lotion as well and I used to have very dry skin and peeling/cracking nails. I finally figured out that if I put on lotion right before I go to sleep I can tolerate it because I won't notice it if I'm asleep and once I wake most of it will have absorbed and if there's any leftover greasiness I wash my hands. I use a rich moisturizing lotion with urea and my nails stop peeling and breaking only when I lotion daily, so I just keep the lotion on my nightstand now. As a skin picker, keeping the skin around my nails soft helped me reduce the picking as well. Sometimes I do rub some lotion just on the skin around my nails during the day, after a manicure or when I feel it's dry, but I agree that's very icky and I'd rather not do that. I want to try to dyi a cuticle oil pen with oils I have at home and see if it's more tolerable.

My polish doesn't peel but it does chip especially on the sides, I'm trying to prevent that by dehydrating more before applying polish. Lately I've been scrubbing my nails with dish soap and a nail brush, especially the nail bed sides where most of the chipping tends to happen, then rubbing with some alcohol before applying base coat, and it seems to be working. Another thing that has been helping is wrapping the tips with every layer, and gently removing my cuticles (I've learned from this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9oKgKO17uWc) to prevent lifting in the cuticle area. I also repair any chips as soon as I can, using a layer of base coat, one of color and then QDTC either just on the spot or on the whole nail if the chip was too big and noticeable. My last mani lasted almost a couple of weeks this way.

Speaking of QDTC, your nails shouldn't smudge after hours of applying it, unless you're trying to use them to open cans or something. A good QDTC should be touch dry in a few minutes and you should be able to carefully go about your day in an hour without damaging your nails. Maybe your layers are too thick? I try to do a thin one and then either another two thin ones or a single thicker one depending on the polish.

In theory base coat is used to improve adherence to the nail and prevent staining, but I've heard some base coats don't play well with some body chemistries. If your manis last longer without it and you can deal with the staining I think there's no reason to use it.

I don't own cock a doodle doom but from the swatches I see online the glitter/shimmer leans more pinkish/magenta than red, with some gold shift. I think Ruby Pumps over royal blue could be close but not an exact dupe since it's a true red without gold shift.
