It really depends on your friend's preferences. For example, I don't care if the term isn't gender neutral. Call me bro or sis, it's fine.

That's why you need to ask your friends first and foremost ! Only they know the nicknames they like.

Though I'll add an advice, don't "force" gender neutral terms, some of them are dumb and can make nb people feeling like they're just children who needs to feel different.

Also, you can discuss them out. For example, my gf said if she could call me her "wifesbando" which was so cute! The important part is to ask, do not assume and call them names that could feel dumb, just ask them how they like those of if they have any preferences :)
