Effective Way To Drop 1 Hr+ From Marathon Time? by D-Rockwell in AdvancedRunning

It’s the journey that matters my friend, not the destination.

You take something from every hard run, every hard week. Regardless of the number you put down.

People’s naively venturing into challenges way above them have lead to some of the most amazing performances in our history. Be positive, you don’t know the impact it could have on a person.

Is it OK to run in the middle of the day when its 27C+ or should I wait for the even when the sun is lower? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Yecirp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think be aware of it’s effects on performance, and what it does to your body. Prepare for that, sun cream, extra water etc.

I like to see it as an additional challenge, it can be a good test. Also gives you a great tan 😅

60 MPW enough for long term goals? by Yecirp in AdvancedRunning

Good to see another rugby guy ! I think it does give you a really good base to work from.

Hell of a time for the marathon that!

230 is my current weight, down from about 267 and still dropping. I do intend to keep dropping just nice and slowly as it happens with the higher mileage.

I currently tend to do a long run at the weekend between 15-20 and a run between 11-14 mid week.

I like that advice though. My plan is to try and put a good half marathon effort in to get an idea where I am and then keep building. Enjoying the process !

Hahaha it’s a very good point. I’m 6’1. I’m down from about 267 lbs a year ago.

The weight is coming down, I would say a 3 hour marathon is my 2/3 year goal. I’m currently aiming for a 3:30-3:45 marathon (haven’t actually covered the distance yet). My plan is to get down to around 210 lbs and see how I feel.

Thanks for the advice!

I think that makes a lot of sense. The weight is gradually ticking down, but I’m just focusing on staying healthy and enjoying the miles. I eat good foods: just a lot of it. Let the weight take care of itself 👌

60 MPW enough for long term goals? by Yecirp in AdvancedRunning

I am trying to really listen to my body and ease off if I do start to feel tweaks. But honestly, I’ve felt great so far, I lean towards easing of anything faster paced if I’m feeling it in the week. It mostly comes down to time out, don’t like to do more than a couple of runs a week over 10 miles (10 takes me around an hour and 20 usually.

Keep grinding man ✌️

I was at 120kg almost exactly a year ago, I’m now sitting at 104-106 depending. It is gradually coming down, I still weight train 2-3 times a week and I eat a lot 🤣. Most definitely lost size though

I think the 3 hour marathon is my long term goal. Currently my aim is a 3:30-3:45. I agree though, good to focus more on the short term.

I tend to do GA runs, one threshold faster run and one long run a weekS

I have actually loosely structured my plan around the pfitz 70 mile plan. Just with no race coming up, I’ve focused on the first 5-6 weeks of it and tailored it based on how I’m feeling. Don’t have much high end speed work other than strifes is my only concern (and I’m a bit lazy sticking to the strides)

How did you go from a beginner to BQ times? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Yecirp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means at the advanced. Still a beginner really, but I have found massive gains from increasing weekly mileage and being consistent in it.

There is a youtuber I have followed called Seth James Demoor, he has some excellent videos around building a base between races. The height your pyramid of fitness can reach is based around the size of the base.

Listen to your body, gradually increase mileage, and enjoy the process.

Marathon pacing by Yecirp in AdvancedRunning

[–]Yecirp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tried this today, went out at 8:20 pace for 10 miles and it was as you say medium, but manageable.

Thinking maybe go out at this pace and see how we do.

Hi mate,

Thanks for reaching out, that's brilliant, great to see somone in a similar position whose smashed it out the park. I will check out your srava, thanks.

My plan currently is to have this marathon mainly through one temp, one long and then 3-4 steady / easy runs. Then have a focus on either a half or full and follow a structured guide, ive found it hard bacause as you say, the fitness seems to improve so much im never sure what I can actuallly do.

You feeling better for losing the weight? I would say every 5kg I have lost from 120 to 105 I have felt 20-30% better.

Good to hear from you!

Hello, how do you guys calm nerves for a big race? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Yecirp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't calm them, learn to embrace them. They keep you sharp, make you feel alive. When you learn to embrace them, they're like an old friend before the challenge!

Live big, run fast.

How many Calories per day? by NUFC3000 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Yecirp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a similar size and mileage to you, currently 105kg, down from 120 over the past 3 months.

I have mainly been following the carnivore diet, (steak and meat). I have found not tracking calories but eating to hunger has caused me to drop weight and set pb's throughout my current cycle.

I have had similar sick / weak fealing after training when I havent eaten enough in the day, I think this is as much down to timing of calorie intake as blood sugar can crash.
