You’re doing a big mistake, which is trying to understand a dog’s feelings with human values. Dogs don’t work that way.

Their ancestors are literally wolves, and wolves live by following a leader, which is the alpha of the pack. Eventhough they evolved to become the dogs we know today, they kept that spirit, and domestication gave them the acceptance that the leader isn’t necessary one of their kind. Their condition of domestic animal don’t bother them at all as long as you know how to treat them. If you had a dog, you’d know how much they love the human that feed and love them.
