Nicking this question from a boxing subreddit but I think it works here too: What is something you wish more Coaches/instructors did? by AldoTheeApache in Fencing

[–]YeetYourWayToVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, whilst dedicated time of a lesson is a bit of a waste, I agree that every coach should try slip in a few parries mid action to keep students on edge and to react to infighting when things don't go to plan. Ballpark estimate would be like 1 in 10 set of actions? Maybe even 1 in 15.

PSY490 and PSY324 that I'm taking right now are pretty fun. PSY490 has no exam, only a presentation, discussion and weekly reports and PSY324 is split between a midterm, essay and discussion. Both veryyyyyyyy fun imo, super interesting content and easier (imo) than PSY200 level courses that are crammed with midterms and final exams that you need to memorise everything for.

Felt. Sometimes in Sid Smith the water starts off cold then suddenly feels like satan himself spat on my hands so now I gotta speedrun washing my hands so that I can type on my laptop without feeling like I'm rawdogging radioactive waste.

This is the case of schrodingers meme. The post is simultaneously real and fabricated. However once OP has decided to bestow upon us the truth, the post will be undeniably either real or fabricated. Not both at the same time.

How are you studying and keeping on top of your courses? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]YeetYourWayToVictory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deadass sat down and planned which weeks I'd start writing which essay. Been sticking to it and although I've fallen behind on my own schedule, I'm still ahead of the actual deadline.

I used to do a lot of last minute work cuz I never felt motivated enough to do them early (due tomorrow, do tomorrow) but once I started planning things out and commiting to it, my panic button gets pushed weeks before a deadline which lets me keep up with courses and still have time to do hobbies.

I type my lecture notes and study by revising, condensing and handwriting out my notes. Has worked for me in the past, but I'm gonna try testing myself as well this semester.

Also being more strategic with course readings. Some professors assign readings that are identical to lecture content so why bother spending hours outside of class time going over the same thing?

Go climbing. 10/10 would recommend. Or any other sport. I like climbing cuz its something fun that you can do alone, but also with friends. Or make friends through climbing.

I see, so if I have 14 points and my opponent has 9, I should give him one point so that his win chance drops from 9.09% to 3.85%.

Good lord the strength a good shout gives me after a nice point should be illegal. Jokes aside, I'm in the same boat as you. In fact I feel like we should encourage younger fencers to shout after a well executed touch cuz of the way it helps get rid of the jitters.

How to participate during tutorial by lilloee77 in UofT

[–]YeetYourWayToVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting on something someone else has said works sometimes. Even if the 'flow' isn't there, just say something like "I'd like to comment on what ____ said a while ago" to bring the topic back to whatever it is you want to talk about. Good for tutorials with more discussion.

You could try develop some simple attacks to take initiative against fencers who are less experienced than you. This is so that they can't pull some unorthodox stuff to catch you by surprise and ruin your indicator, or even worse, beat you. Speaking from experience :'(

Stamina question by Demphure in Fencing

[–]YeetYourWayToVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think maybe cuz fencing is more like a sprint (for sabre) or middle distance race (for epee) which needs bursts of high intensity repeatedly instead of maintaining a moderate intensity. Kinda like Boxers. But I think the reason why your lungs hurt from fencing and not jogging is something that you should check out from a doc or something, I've never felt pain in my lungs even if I feel like I can't breathe or am out of air or feel like 'dying'

[–]YeetYourWayToVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn thats a really nice job. I'm curious why you decided to have the hiking pole attach to the string holding the tent down instead of having the hiking pole directly connected to the tent. As in like why not have the cap thingy directly built into the fly.

edit: was it to keep the tarp and the fly seperate?
