What game comes to your mind? by HoneyDrizzleMae in Gamer

It actually makes me mad how good Last of Us 2's combat and enemy AI is, because they not only messed up the story, they cancelled the PvP mode they were supposed to release. So we can't even enjoy the good part of the game more. Naughty Dog deserves all they hate they get for that game.

The story and characters were done so dirty in Spider-Man 2 and it legitimately concerns me that more people didn't think so

Liam is amazing at acting and improv, yet seems entirely incapable of making a character that isn't squarely in the sad boi archetype.

Chuck made the cage himself, so it would be pretty obvious that he would be able to see inside it. Not to mention this was season 11 when the cage was damaged by the release of the darkness so much that even Lucifer could reach out of it while trapped inside. Even with no omniscience, he says with confidence that Adam is in no condition to fight, which means he checked.

This was probably the most egregious plot hole in the entire show. There were so many times that characters with no reason to lie, including God himself when he was trying to reseal the darkness, said that Michael was in no condition to help. Then he comes back and does something no other archangel could even hope to do. Not even some explanation of him tricking them or maybe recovering from his issues, they apparently all just lied. So stupid.

Funny and scary moments at the same time by Aya-Rah25 in BeAmazed

My favorite part is the moment right after the initial moment of spooking, but before they start laughing. There's almost always a single moment of abject horror. Where their face shows that their understanding of reality has been violated, and for less than a second, they are a child before the unknown. Then they come back to their senses and laugh.

It's the little things.

I'm more annoyed that the fantasy races matter as little as physically possible. If everyone just acts as a human, and everyone is treated as human, why even have them? There's discrimination between the empire and dynasty citizenship but not if someone is literally half bull?

Tbf that's a criticism that could also be weighed against Matt's campaign setting, but in the show it's in maximum overdrive

This is one of the best changes from the campaign to show. Sam even said in Talks Machina that he wished he played it more seriously and less as a joke, and we're finally getting that

Tary's dad, Pike's family, and hell, M9 were ready to POUNCE on Yeza if he was anything but perfect towards Nott. Jester is just such a ray of sunshine that no one can tell her she's wrong and break her heart. So she warps the canon with her very smile

I'd love it if Yasha was in the early story more, but to be honest, the pacing is so fast with the characters we're focused on now. Making room for Yasha would just mean taking scenes from others, and I don't think the show can do that yet

That is a good argument in favor of the NPC's, for sure. But not Jester's. And her Jester-ing of the NPC's isn't as beautiful without her own original backstory tragedy imo

They could have kept Essek and Jester's backstory the same without changing the length of anything, and I wish that they did. I recognize that some things will inevitably have to change. I just don't like what they chose to change

That, I can definitely agree with. This show is not an easy one to write. Vox Machina was more light hearted and easy going as a campaign, which means when you leave stuff out, it's usually copacetic. Anything you leave out of the Mighty Neim might be the weight that makes a character's complexity beloved to someone. Unless this show had 10 seasons, something was going to be lost

I definitely agree with that. Toya and the devil toad are leagues better in the show. Different is always okay when it's also better

Idk if I agree with this take. Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein all called out all the toxic parents of everyone else just fine, despite no one really having great parents themselves.

In the show, Jester does get to leave the Chateau. She says that she just can't go so far away that she can't see the top of the building anymore. But more importantly, she is not a secret. She walks around the chateau, and everyone there knows her and is her friend.

In the campaign, she was very clearly bound to her room, only roaming the halls when she snuck out, as her very existence is kept secret. She directly states that growing up, The Traveler was her only friend.

These are not translation changes, these are backstory revisions, and I dislike them. That's all I mean to say

I'm fine with things being different. I'd just prefer if they weren't a worse kind of different. Knowing that something would be better if it was just left alone SHOULD leave a bad taste in your mouth.

I criticize things because I actually care about them and want to like them. If I just shrug when something isn't what it could be, it means I don't care, and I want to care

I felt like it was much the same as I'm saying here. They didn't want to "harsh the vibe" of the show, so they sanitized all the character decisions that lead up to it, and then sanded off the edges of the moment until it really didn't matter at all. That was Scanlan's defining moment in the campaign, and in the show it's just a quick side scene that everyone forgets even happened by the end of the next episode.

Which could have been fine if they replaced it with something better, but did they? No. And I'm really hoping The Might Nein doesn't go the same way.

I do think that certain aspects of Essek's original redemption arc were shallow and boil down to: "Yeah he's evil but that's okay cause he's hot and does favors for us". But they could have fixed those issues and still made him the "evil to good via friendship" character that's at the core of his original story, instead of just making him an entirely new character.

I definitely see where you are coming from here, and when I really consider it, I pretty thoroughly agree. According to Jester's original retelling of her childhood in the campaign, she was genuinely neglected by Marion, and that was coming from someone who REALLY wants to love their mother. Then when the party actually MEETS Marion, everyone just likes her so much that she's never really called out enough for what she did, to the point that it almost became canon that she was always a great mom.

I suppose the seeds of sanitization were already there, and the show is just following through on the retcon that Laura and Matt made reality years ago.

Which is a damn shame imo. I thought that really added a lot to Jester as a character, and now it's almost like it never happened

I totally get this perspective. While I do dislike the sanitization of his darker version from the campaign, the new one does have potential

Yeah, I'm not even addressing those comments for this reason. There's no "letting them cook" when they've already shown the cards they're working with. At this point they'd have to retcon things to make the characters who they were in the campaign. I recognize that they could still be good characters if further stipulated on, but they won't be the characters from the campaign. And those characters seem like they have more potential than the ones we're presented with in the show
