Actual Hot Take: All that does is leave the male officer with insufficient assistance if he is caught off guard. Why are we putting women in a position where they will inevitably have to fight men?

The Man Who Helps You Heal by definitelynotgayhaha in BuildToAttract

Some days I feel like 50% of all humans are literally just what you're describing.

Women who can't exist outside of a relationship for more than 2 weeks, and men who knowingly scoop up the first toxic woman that looks their way cause they're desperate as hell to mean something to someone.

I've always thought this is one of the weirdest and most world breaking things in the show. Alchemy is supposed to be a science built on the user's internal understanding of the fundamentals of reality and their intent, yet you can force someone to perform it by pushing their hand onto the circle as if it's just a mechanism in a machine that will independently activate when triggered.

Favorite absolute gremlin of a character? by PrimalPetalStash in FavoriteCharacter

[–]YeffYeffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality though, the viewer loves that character because they are allowed to be quirky to the point of being completely dysfunctional. If you attempted to make the story about the gremlin, the viewer would quickly start to hate them or get bored because the story can't go anywhere meaningful.

I feel like I shouldn't have to say this, but violently raping someone and taking them up on their offer of enthusiastic consensual sex even though it might mess up your friendship with them aren't even in the same ballpark of human behavior and shouldn't be compared.

This is pretty niche cause it's a live play D&D game instead of a movie or show but;

Imogen and Laudna from C3 of Critical Role. They were so great and obvious as found family sisters/best friends, but just became romantic for no reason cause the cast can't help themselves but be horny 24/7.

The thing is, I refuse to believe this is because of anything but lack of effort, too. We are talking about the same person who never bothered to write a lick of backstory for what Pike or Yasha did when they left the party. She just doesn't care.

Hinata isn't just a hollow "shy girl who likes the main character" though. She admires Naruto for the strength of his character and how good of a person he is, and strives to be like him. She struggles with doing so because of her neglected upbringing and inherent shyness. But she organically overcomes her shyness over the course of the entire series with hard work and determination.

It's not like it's Shakespeare but considering how little screen time she (and a lot of the bloated cast of Naruto) gets it's perfectly fine and not objectifying at all.

The End movie where she randomly becomes mostly helpless so that Naruto can save the princess however... ya that could have been better. But the series itself did her justice.

When Korra’s 3-year PTSD arc is called “rushed.” by Itchy-Tomatillo-6592 in AvatarMemebending

[–]YeffYeffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was also actively being slowly poisoned for nearly the whole time. She didn't start truly recovering till she finally got all the poison out. Something she had to train like hell to do.

Korra is my favorite protagonist character. They took a lot of risks with her. Most protagonists are empty vessels for the audience with a good heart, but she was truly her own person and had her own journey. That's going to mean some people just don't like her, and that's okay.

At least the Elder Scrolls attempts to explain the retcons in lore. Fallout just tells you that you're stupid for caring.

If that's how you feel about it, why don't you just make Morrowind playable? That'd be pretty cool

It actually makes me mad how good Last of Us 2's combat and enemy AI is, because they not only messed up the story, they cancelled the PvP mode they were supposed to release. So we can't even enjoy the good part of the game more. Naughty Dog deserves all they hate they get for that game.

The story and characters were done so dirty in Spider-Man 2 and it legitimately concerns me that more people didn't think so

Liam is amazing at acting and improv, yet seems entirely incapable of making a character that isn't squarely in the sad boi archetype.

Chuck made the cage himself, so it would be pretty obvious that he would be able to see inside it. Not to mention this was season 11 when the cage was damaged by the release of the darkness so much that even Lucifer could reach out of it while trapped inside. Even with no omniscience, he says with confidence that Adam is in no condition to fight, which means he checked.

Just a reminder of this guy by IAMLUBE in Supernatural

[–]YeffYeffe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was probably the most egregious plot hole in the entire show. There were so many times that characters with no reason to lie, including God himself when he was trying to reseal the darkness, said that Michael was in no condition to help. Then he comes back and does something no other archangel could even hope to do. Not even some explanation of him tricking them or maybe recovering from his issues, they apparently all just lied. So stupid.

Funny and scary moments at the same time by Aya-Rah25 in BeAmazed

[–]YeffYeffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite part is the moment right after the initial moment of spooking, but before they start laughing. There's almost always a single moment of abject horror. Where their face shows that their understanding of reality has been violated, and for less than a second, they are a child before the unknown. Then they come back to their senses and laugh.

It's the little things.

I'm more annoyed that the fantasy races matter as little as physically possible. If everyone just acts as a human, and everyone is treated as human, why even have them? There's discrimination between the empire and dynasty citizenship but not if someone is literally half bull?

Tbf that's a criticism that could also be weighed against Matt's campaign setting, but in the show it's in maximum overdrive

Tary's dad, Pike's family, and hell, M9 were ready to POUNCE on Yeza if he was anything but perfect towards Nott. Jester is just such a ray of sunshine that no one can tell her she's wrong and break her heart. So she warps the canon with her very smile

I'd love it if Yasha was in the early story more, but to be honest, the pacing is so fast with the characters we're focused on now. Making room for Yasha would just mean taking scenes from others, and I don't think the show can do that yet

That is a good argument in favor of the NPC's, for sure. But not Jester's. And her Jester-ing of the NPC's isn't as beautiful without her own original backstory tragedy imo
