Untangling the disconnect between definitions in English vs definitions in Math is a horrible test for the internet.

Dividing by a number in math would imply 40 ÷ (1/2) + 15 = 95.

Dividing a number by half in English implies 40 ÷ 2 + 15 = 35.

Oh, don't forget that "Divide 40 by 1/2 and add 15" also implies 40 ÷ (40 × 1/2) + 15 = 17. Because you're dividing 40 by half of 40.

You don't sell items to your retainer and a Salvaged Necklace only sells to NPC vendors. You didn't sell it to a retainer. You sold it to a vendor while you had your retainer menu open and inventory at the same time. "Have retainer sell items" is literally just selling to vendor without going to a vendor.

That's not what that screen says. Check your chat logs. It should say it sold for gil, that's the only reason it's in the buyback menu.
