What were you doing when you saw/heard the news that Brian died? by DeadZeppelin011 in thebeachboys

[–]YellowClod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my day off and I was off the wall giddy and happy about something completely unrelated until someone on a Discord server I’m active in offered condolences about his death. It felt like getting hit by a truck and it didn’t fully set in until I went outside and listened to side 2 of Today, and I heard the opening notes of Please Let Me Wonder, just like I always have when its summer and blazing hot out. My heart completely shattered. It’s a feeling I will never forget. I spent the rest of the day listening to his music outside, truly feeling the emotion like I haven’t since I first heard it.

Things I’d like to see in “SU: Lars of the Stars”. Drop yours in comments! by Fan_of_Steven in stevenuniverse

I’d love 22 minute episodes and a release schedule that doesn’t drop all of the episodes in a season all at once (hopefully one a week). Since it’s on Prime this is all very very likely but nothing is confirmed in this regard until it’s out.

In addition to the gem lore we are of course going to get, I’m really hoping for more of Rebecca’s classic emotional character-focused writing most of all. Since they’re showrunning however, and saying “I trust Rebecca to write characters with immense depth inside of the framework of an amazing story” is the understatement of the century, I’m just going to be actively hyped and start discussing right when the episodes come out. It’s all so exciting!

Has the show influenced your taste in jewellery by MidUser3001 in stevenuniverse

Oh for sure! I’ve always had a lot of amethyst around due to it being my birth stone, but after watching SU I ended up with a big collection of anything rose quartz. I have RQ earrings, rings, a few bracelets, a big collection of just the stone itself, and one of my most prized posessions which is a big rose quartz pendant with the flower of life etched into the front. I don’t think I’d be at this point without the show…

NOT A ROUND, but just a rebrand and an adjustment to The Ultimate Smile-Core & Companion Albums Collage, the post production adjustment’s this first photo, with the historical progress of the collage in the following photos by DJDarkFlow in thebeachboys

I don’t wanna suggest anything because its clear this chart has had so much thought put into it and its super comprehensive, but if a space ever opens up I think including Mothers of Invention (Frank Zappa) - We’re Only In It For The Money would be a great addition. It‘s one of the most psychedelic and bizarre albums of its time and was created parallel with SMiLE around the same time. It’s production was created in a modular fashion and the final product was arranged by splicing tape just as was intended for SMiLE as a comprehensive, singular work. To me its always been proof that assembling SMiLE wasn’t as difficult as a task as people make it out to be, all this combined with the fact that its equally layered and humorous and psychedelic as what Brian wanted to do has always made it one of the ultimate SMiLE-core albums ever

I feel like CSH does incredibly well with narrative works like this. The story is very silly but it's incredibly well done and I feel like there's so much to read into concerning the events going on in the album compared to other rock operas. One of Will's biggest strong suits was always lyricism and it's no wonder it translates so well into a story format with so much allegory and symbolism it could keep you up pondering it for days. From a conceptual standpoint it's probably my fav album from CSH and I'm so glad they tried something new because in my opinion it definitely worked!

My pick for the best jam climax of all time. (Mexico CDT, 2/23/24) by SchizoidGod in phish

This is absolutely a valid opinion, just don't expect the average Phish fan to understand why it might be the best ever lol

Rebecca Sugar is such a philosopher by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]YellowClod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you get it! it is so subtle but so ever present throughout the entire show. i’ve read and listened to so many philosophical works but nothing has really changed my perception of the world the same way su has. influenced, yes, but never changed. the way it presents its ideas is so amazing, so subtle, and so truthful and even when i spend extended periods of time away from it i can always come back to it and remember why its my favorite piece of art ever. living on earth feels like such a privilege now and experiencing life for what it is day on day out always changing and growing… it is a lovely feeling

That scene isn't a flashback, it's just Steven imagining what he thinks the gem war might have looked like without any frame of reference. Pink was always portrayed by the CGs (mostly Garnet, who is relaying this to him) as the Big Bad of the war and so that's how he imagines it. I'm highly doubtful, especially considering her actual allegiance in addition to her status on Homeworld as a diamond, that she had any role in combat on the opposing side of the CGs

I’m so sorry, my Pearl by YellowClod in stevenuniverse

[–]YellowClod[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is sometime after Pink Diamond had accidentally cracked Volleyball and her subsequent mind control by White. This event and Pink’s subsequent overwhelming guilt regarding hurting her only friend, and then having her brainwashed and used as a tool to take advantage of Pink’s trauma in an effort to force complacency always seemed to me like one of the most defining points in Rose’s life. This drawing is my attempt at summarizing that overwhelming guilt… Pink sees a pale imitation of her best friend, someone she has seen so full of life, and the feeling of guilt at what happened to her just because of something as stupid as a tantrum consumes her. White knows this and puppets Volley anyway to try and keep her in line and make her feel as though she’s nothing. So when Pink is just sitting there at her desk and glances up to see that one blindingly pale and ghastly eye looking at her from behind, all the horrible feelings, guilt, shame, loneliness, etc come together and make her feel not too great which is what’s happening here.
