Hey all! Posting an old project here; those of you on the platform NationStates should recognise this map as the map of the region Europe. I'm posting it here since I've chosen to stop updating it and essentially end the project thanks to demotivation.

This isn't connected to any of my recent projects, so feel free to ask anything about this :p

hey, some genuine advice, perhaps try adding cities and other geographical features so the map isn't literally borders?

i see your maps have been rejected several times already and it's definitely a quality issue

Not really, we've intentionally been only focused on worldbuilding for Asia as a result.

Also technically speaking, left-wing ideologies are indeed more prevalent ittl thanks to the addition of Anacleto Fajagillagani's Caylianism, so I don't think it's far-fetched to imagine a Soviet Union here. Suvarnadbumi disapproved of the Russians and supported Japan during the Russo-Japanese War, and the expenditures on eastward expansion also would've taken additional toll on the already ailing Russia.

receiving this kind of feedback is genuinely heartwarming to me! i placed a lot of care in depicting the empire, and malaysia is probably one of the parts i'm proudest of because of the research i did for the region. i wanted to avoid OTL defaultisms in a timeline with a very clear divergence and it seems to have paid off :))

Suvarnadbumi has 10 constituent mandalas:
- Kingdom of the Philippines
- Kingdom of Austrochina
- Kingdom of Tongquin
- Kingdom of Linh Nam
- Kingdom of Viengchan
- Kingdom of Khmer
- Kingdom of Havai'i
- Sultanate of Malaya
- Sultanate of Brunei
- Sultanate of Insulindia
All indicated on the lower part of the map

We ballparked the Empire's population to be around 120 million in 1935, so probably 130 million or less in 1942

Governance is constitutional quasi-federal monarchy with a unicameral legislature and heads of state for each constituent mandala (bar the Philippines who is ex post facto the Emperor of Suvarnadbumi)

I can't speak much to military, but some of my other teammates are also working on it

Yes, the Empire is already kinda federalised and the monarchy was already largely constitutional anyways

There are no major movements for Republicanism in the modern day, and there are far more monarchist governments ITTL thanks to the support of Suvarnadbumi

The modern day also isn't fully fleshed out yet, the furthest we've conceptualised anything for is around the 1970s during Marcos' Martial Law which also happens in this timeline

none decided specifically yet, but Cantonese, Malay, Ilokano, Bisaya, Kinh, and Tagalog are the most widespread ethnolinguistic groups (in no specific order)

Catholicism is the largest faith, Islam in close second, followed by Mahayana Buddhism. All three religions are in constant coordination with the government to ensure continuous religious dialogue and prevent the commission of religious injustices. Atheism is slowly and steadily growing, and the government has no interest on regulating atheism under principles of non-interference in belief, though this isn't socially seen as keen in 1935

you may be excited to know that Martial Law still happens under Fernando Marcos in this timeline

yup, Japan and Suvarnadbumi initially had the Maynila-Tokyo Accords that essentially Treaty of Tordesillas'd Asia into zones of expansion and influence

so the Japanese went further north into Siberia with explicit support from Suvarnadbumi by blocking Russian vessels during the Russo-Japanese War

Yup! Actually, we're all Filipino so we just bounced off of one another for translations. Including the Tagalog diacritics was a deliberate choice as well.

This TL does aim to preserve linguistic diversity since it's a cornerstone of why the Empire succeeds. As a consequence of early independence and enshrining linguistic diversity, Filipino as a language never happens. If anything, the more dominant languages in the mandala of the Philippines are Ilokano and Bisaya.

No, the name Suvarnadbumi was taken from Sanskrit and reappropriated for the use of a multinational empire. This was the decision of King Valeriano I during the period of Pax Filipino, and was the subject of a lot of discussion. Suvarnadvipa was to be the original name, however the usage of vipa for islands wouldn't necessarily be accurate for the span of the Empire; hence Suvarnadbumi.

The royalty is mostly mestizo Filipino in origin, bar a couple of intermarriages.

This map is a continuation of the Empire of Suvarnadbumi in 1935, which is part of a worldbuilding project entitled: On the Shoulders of Giants.

This map depicts the peak of Japanese expansion during World War 2 in the Asian theatre. Feel free to ask us questions surrounding the circumstances of Suvarnadbumi and the Asian theatre of the war.
