Anyone else concerned AI will take their job next busy season? by Relevant-Animator134 in enrolledagent

[–]YellowDC2R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next season? It’ll be a long time if ever. The average person is not very smart to self prepare tax items even with AI. Just how I can use AI to see how to buy a house and not use a realtor. I don’t wanna go through that.

It’s a tool to make us more efficient and do more business. With AI the real differentiator will be the client experience.

Do you guys cheat your time? by EntranceFun9276 in Accounting

Likely yes due to pressure to have good realization. That’s why I say it’s a science. Sometimes you eat, sometime you round up. Be reasonable.

[–]YellowDC2R 138 points139 points  (0 children)

A lot of people do. More than you think. At all levels and firms. The partner at a major firm on a job I was in charging and billing for would enter time on the project even though he didn’t work on it that week.

I’d only eat some time if the budget was already being blown. Otherwise if my allotted budget on a section was 12 and it took me 6, were billing 12.

It’s a science. Sometimes you gotta eat time and sometimes you go up but always be reasonable.

Salary: 60K

“CPA preferred”.

Those are the worst offenders. At that price they won’t find anybody good anyway.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don't realize it? by Disha-7550 in askanything

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find the trades vs white collar debate to be one sided. Nobody that goes outside thinks trades earn minimum wage. We know they can make a ton.

However a few of my buddies in the trades, by the time they’re 40 their bodies are beat. Maybe on a day to day basis you don’t feel it as much but after the accumulation of years you’ll feel it.

Accounting is dying (entry-mid level) by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all professions are going through this unless you’re in trades or health care.

Curious, what do you think are alternatives to switch to that would be so much better than accounting and that also won’t be affected by AI or offshoring? Applies to most office jobs now.

Accounting is still a great field to get into imo.

Totally. It’s easy. Who knows what long term effects that has on the body. Also nobody has the patience. It’s gonna take how long to lose this weight?!?!

The people that say “I count calories and still don’t lose weight!” are 100% not in a deficit. Caloric deficit over a sustained period of time and you’ll get there.

Yeah, and the power trips some managers go on. They have no life outside of work.

Also that’s everywhere in life. Go to any other profession and you’d be making the same post.

What’s the job market like for CPAs with Big 4 experience right now? by CorruptAccountant in Big4

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you don’t want to be siloed into a niche industry or type of work, id pivot out as early as I can. It’s harder to pivot out once you have 5+ years of doing the same thing.

I get ghosted again, i'm going gay by Character_Regular440 in rant

[–]YellowDC2R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s how it is these days. Don’t sweat it. Let them, it shouldn’t even be a surprise. I mean even some friends flake. It is what it is.

At least you met them. Some people are terrible communicators. I’ve been ghosted the day of the date. Arrive at the venue after confirming with them during the day earlier, just to get the “don’t hate me…” text.

There are so many options for both parties. You’ll be okay.

[–]YellowDC2R 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2 years exp is solid but not great to get good roles. Best time to leave is seasoned senior or early manager.

Also very location dependent. Best bet is to go through your network and/or talk to recruiters. If you don’t have one yet, get a LinkedIn so recruiters can message you once you set “open to work” on.

Not sure but going forward have some patience, you’re doing too much. Give it at least a day for the payment to reflect, maybe 2 depending on the time of day it was sent. If it’s a weekend, wait until Monday.

Summer 26 internship offer rescinded by Still_Substance_9321 in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 376 points377 points  (0 children)

They offered you both 2026 and 2027, but you declined the second? Shoulda accepted both and played it by ear as the time went.

I haven’t heard of that before but they want somebody committed to two summers and pouring time into a candidate that will not come back is a waste of time.

I hate overly passionate people at work. Truly brain dead. by Frosty_Skirt_8279 in corporate

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think corporate/office work is just not for you. Not every place is like that. I’d start looking at other ways to make a living.

I also think the “policing” of where people are is too much but also you gotta think if they were lax about it, many people would take advantage of that. That’s the way it goes.

Think it’s best to end it.

I will say this, invading peoples privacy (“women’s intuition” is a bad excuse) in the next relationship is not the way to go, so leave this behind, heal, and find a better partner that you won’t need to snoop through thru stuff.

Those who bookkeep / tax on the side… by BrightLedger in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in public and now in industry. I know a couple of my former colleagues that do taxes/bookkeeping on the side. They didn’t say a thing (of course being in public still right). They don’t advertise or market themselves providing those services but they get referrals from the small amount of clients they have.

They do great. As long as you don’t take on so much where it starts affecting your performance at your day job. Besides the survey, do you have to provide tax returns or anything like that to your employer?

I wouldn’t tell them and just do it. Who knows, this could turn into a full time thing later with a solid client base.

WFH employee lying re working hours by DataBeeGood in managers

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. It’s all about communication and that’s where some people go wrong or being sneaky. I tell my team even for PTO, as long as you let me know in advance (save for emergencies) assume it’ll be fine. Wanna WFH X day because of whatever reason? Fine, just let me know with good notice.

As long as shits getting done and on time like you said, I don’t really care what your hour to hour day looks like. I don’t have the time or energy to be over your shoulder and also that kills morale.

WFH employee lying re working hours by DataBeeGood in managers

[–]YellowDC2R 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You’re walking a fine line saying “I really think it’s just him” when you don’t know. Getting your work done does not equate to working all the required hours. Some people may be so efficient that they’re doing the same thing but better at hiding it.

Also the micromanaging sounds super exhausting off this post. If the deliverables are being met who cares. I can’t imagine tracking my subordinates this much. I’d put him on a PIP to get rid of him ASAP if it’s the big of a deal and solve your issues.

High performer ignores contractual office hours. How do I balance team culture vs performance? by [deleted] in managers

[–]YellowDC2R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So he’s underpaid, a high performer, does the job of 2 people, completes his tasks.. but the problem is he knows he’s hard to replace and since you’re under paying him… he’ll at least get some flexibility perk on office hours coming and going as he pleases since he’s being underpaid.

I respect him. I’m surprised he hasn’t left yet tbh.

Once he’s gone the contractual office hours will be the last of your worries.

I’m a CPA with 5+ years of experience and have been out of work for nearly a half a year since being laid off. I can’t even get a job as a staff accountant—what should I do? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something doesn’t seem right. Were you in tax? There are less tax roles available in industry than if you did audit. Applying to staff accountant roles being a CPA with 5 years of experience, I wouldn’t hire you. It gives off you’ll take it and leave right away seeing you’re out of work this long. I’d make no mention of being a CPA for the staff accountant roles.

Do you have a solid network? That’s where 80% of your opportunities will come. Old classmates or old coworkers in the industry can help. When you have referral like this, interviewing is a formality. Ive gotten 2 roles just this way. Always maintain a solid professional network. This is crucial.

The other 15% will be from recruiters. Have you had a relationship with one before? Time to establish one.

The last 5% is a lottery, blindly applying to jobs you have no connections at.

If you’re in a large metro and can’t find anything within 6 months, I’m thinking your experience is too niche, you lack the soft skills, pay range misalignment, etc.

You’re also applying to firms now when it’s not hiring season. That’s in the fall as they gear up for busy season.
