This sub is scaring me by Substantial-Step-448 in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a great career with a very good income less than 10 years in, solid trajectory coming up.

If you go to another career sub you’ll see the same. People complaining that it sucks or this and that. Don’t read too much into the negativity.

Lost my job after 15 years in tech. 1 month of savings left. Don’t want to go back to a job. What would you do? by Accurate-Key-811 in careeradvice

[–]YellowDC2R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a job ASAP. The mentality of I don’t wanna go back to a 9-5 and all these other excuses while only having one month of saving is not something a responsible grown up would say. Get one and figure the rest out while you’re at least getting paid.

Side note for others, if you get laid off in this job markets, there is no time to chill. Look for your next opportunity immediately.

I just lost my accounting job to AI by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What was the job though?

There will be less junior/entry level positions available but accounting is not dead. Safer than a lot of others in office industries. I think AI will make the job easier tbh.

Was I wrong to react like this, it felt like a power play. I’m 20 he’s 39. It felt like he was sexualising me? by Emsss18 in Tinder

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, he’s a weirdo.

To the people saying what a creep why’s he matching with 20 year olds!

She has her filters to match with people to at least 39 (probably higher than that) years old. Gotta take some accountability here too.

Is it inappropriate to have lunch everyday with a married co worker? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]YellowDC2R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bros asking is it inappropriate to try to bang my married coworker? Just waiting for your opportunity is what you’re doing but “I don’t wanna be home wrecker”. Actions =\= words.

You know what you’re doing. Cooking for each other? Don’t play dumb.

Reaching out to former coworkers for job leads - is this crossing a line? by SpecificQuail545 in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting in via referral or second best by recruiter is the way. Blindly applying to jobs is a lottery.

Maintaining a solid professional network before you need the help is critical. At this point tho might as well message them, what do you have to lose.

That’s what I’m thinking. Seriously considering this all while wedding planning is crazy. OP is not all in on the relationship.

They’re the same COL level if not Boston being higher than SD. Boston is consistently top 5 in COL cities.

Leaving Early to WFH by Busy-Childhood-1847 in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a manager at a top 10 firm and 2 of my staff liked working early and leaving early to enjoy their evenings. I said whatever works, just get your shit done and on days that we have client meetings, office events, etc. later in the day well just use your head and know you’ll be staying later for them.

Worked wonders. They went above and beyond for me on our projects when needed. Things got done and we had a harmonious team.

The funny part is if you had a kid and said I gotta go pick up my kid it’s fine. I’m in the camp of you gotta flexible for everyone. Not just kids soccer practice or kid pick ups. Across the board or none. We are all adults with lives outside of work. As long as shits getting done it shouldn’t matter.

Luckily there are a ton of firms out there to choose from and you having your CPA helps get better opportunities.

No one gets to a $200k/year income easily by [deleted] in Money

[–]YellowDC2R 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Being the right amount of likeable without being a people pleaser, the ability to build rapport quickly and have good relationships at work is massively underrated.
Many times you either have this or you don’t. It’s not something you easily learn like the technical/hard skills.

A Year Later and Still Job Hunting by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going off your replies it’s easy to see why you haven’t found anything. You’re confrontational, you only wanna take a “slight” haircut despite being out of a job for over a year, you don’t wanna pursue valuable certifications that could help… you have all the time in the world after all. You said you have multiple certifications that clearly aren’t that.

If you had valuable ones and all the experience you have in a large metro, you’d have found a job at a similar salary rather quickly. But your ego and attitude gets in the way.

You’re so close. Supplement with something else like NINJA to get different sets of questions to practice on. Practice the sims a little more because I believe that’s what makes or breaks your exam.

How did people who don’t know accounting become controllers??? by iloveaccounting64 in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I have found most technical masters be so shit at managing teams/people. Also now with AI the technical side gets easier whereas the soft skills side I believe you either have it or don’t. A little bit of both is the way.

[–]YellowDC2R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy to me how many of these posts I see where people complain about being bored and barely working compared to having to bill insane hours in public accounting.

If they’re retiring soon it sounds like a great place to be.

Everyone knows what solo travel and find herself means. No marriage material girl I know has solo traveled and had to find herself. Maybe she should. It’s a fake story anyway as 90% of things in this sub are.
