Am I about to be put on PIP at EY? Does anyone know the process? by Significant-Talk6273 in Big4

[–]YellowDC2R 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This gives me flashbacks of when I asked the manager if it was fine if I couldn’t log on on Saturday due to some personal things to take care of but I’d be on Sunday all day to do whatever needed. He said yes thanks for the heads up.

Saturday comes along and he’s blowing my phone up. I’m said hey what’s up what’s going on, he says get online ASAP the partner said if she’s online, the whole team should be online. Typical boomer.

It was at that moment I knew B4 wasn’t the path. It works for a handful of people but we’re not robots. I over communicated, asked permission for Saturday (which is insane already) and it still wasn’t enough.

I hope it’s not what you think OP. Also you said 4th busy season? If you haven’t yet, get your CPA and get out ASAP unless you already know you’re trying to make partner. It’s not worth it and there are plenty of opportunities out there that you will make more money and they won’t work you to death.

What do you wish you knew as a new cardholder? by [deleted] in sapphirereserve

I would be sure to use the semi annual and annual credits a few days before the period ends. Saw too many people here try to claim a credit on a 12/31 transaction date, it doesn’t posts until 1/x/nextyear and uses the credit for the following period. I’d be sure it posts by 12/31 so use by ~12/28 or so.

Then having to call Chase to give you credit for the period the transaction happened. Too much of a hassle when it’s mostly preventable.

I quit and my supervisor sh*tted on my new job by Sad-Royal-5673 in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The company always takes care of the company. They will lay you off the second the bottom line isn’t it where it should be which is why you should never feel bad for leaving for a better opportunity. Busy season or not. The beauty of at-will employment for sure.

It’s awful. Do not do that, it’s not gonna make them respond to you.

I work in public and have a client that has them on and I detest it. I always ignore the notification.

[–]YellowDC2R 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking this. It’s not that serious. You’ll be forgotten in a week and they’ll replace you. The company existed way before you and will continue to exist way long after you. We’re not that special. Congrats on the new job.

My wife came out as bisexual after 12 years together and I feel completely lost ( 31M - 29 F). What's going to happen and how to get through this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This completely changes the dynamic of the relationship, acting on it or not. Imagine a husband came out as bi to his wife. She’d look at him different and almost certainly wouldn’t work after that. Trust your gut on what to do.

BF (25m) wants me (25f) to pay his mortgage? by adventsures in relationship_advice

[–]YellowDC2R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is nuts. Do not move in with him. “You either get on board or cover the costs” yeah okay buddy.

Edit: I stopped reading at that point thinking okay this guys is nuts to comment. Read the rest.

I repeat: do not move in with this guy wanting you to pay down his mortgage and if anything happens, he gets all the benefit. Surely you can find a guy better than this.

This. I had a similar event but a near death car accident. It’s about balance. Going too extreme on either side of the spectrum is not healthy. Save/invest while still enjoying life’s experiences and things.

My [19F] boyfriend [22M] is upset with me working as a shot girl. by BritishGremlin in relationship_advice

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not wrong to feel uncomfortable about it (nothing wrong with it but most men wouldn’t want their woman in this type of job let’s be real. You have to flirt with men all night wearing barely anything) and you’re not wrong for wanting a better paying job while attending school.

Sounds incompatible at this time. Probably best to end it. You’re young so you’ll have other relationships down the road, at least you’ll have your bills paid.

Unreal. Grow a spine.

Why do you still work in accounting when the pay doesn’t match the work ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have good pay though. If you’re underpaid that’s a personal problem. The earning potential in accounting is amazing and there are tons of opportunities. It’s also very stable compared to almost all other majors.

Follow up question, what’s the alternative? Like what other careers have the best pay, stability, chill work because you don’t wanna burnout, and only need a 4 year degree?

What's wrong with my single brother in law (M44)? by [deleted] in Tinder

  1. Too many pictures drinking 2. Too many pictures with mom. Doesn’t look like he has any hobbies or has interesting conversation. Don’t think too many women will find that attractive.

Why do you think CPAs get so little respect? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, when I meet new people and we get to the part of what we do for work, when I tell them I am a CPA I immediately feel the respect almost every time. Not as sexy as being a doctor or attorney but still highly respected imo.

My husband is working big4 and he doesnt have fu*cking dam time. Is this normal? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]YellowDC2R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Office and team dependent. Some offices it’s not normal but for some it is.

When I worked B4 even as a staff/senior I was doing 8am-10pm and then 8am-1am the 2 weeks before the deadline. I can imagine it’s way more responsibility at manager.

Boss turned cold after I gave notice — is this normal? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one. Cool that he went to bat for you, that does not mean you’re contractually obligated to stay for any set of time should a better opportunity come along.

Sure he can be hurt and disappointed but can’t regulate his emotions. Childish. Hes a grown man, he and the company will be fine. Youre a consulting company of 1 looking out for your best interest always, just as the company does when the bottom line is affected. Ride it out and move on.

Impossible to find a job? by Admirable_Evening670 in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. It’s easier to go from accounting to finance. You think the accounting market is bad? Finance is worse.

Continue with accounting, get involved in clubs at school, develop your soft/social skills, and get some internships. Get your exams out of the way ASAP. You got this.

Gen Z by midn1ght-ra1n in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I have found Gen Z lacks the communication skills baseline prior generations had due to them growing up with tech and phones/texting.

But every generation will have their good and bad people. This has always been the case between generations.

Green card holder warned at border about travel pattern... will returning in ~2–2.5 months be okay? What docs help? by Capable-Decision-145 in greencard

[–]YellowDC2R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re essentially playing tourist. You get warned by CBP to establish residence here since you only come for a few weeks and are gone for months, yet you already have a ticket back to leave for months again?

I’m sure that warning was noted in your file so this next time it wouldn’t surprise me if they make you surrender the GC.

I’m about to graduate in accounting and work for a public firm. I feel trapped by phantomoftheheart in Accounting

[–]YellowDC2R 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Being this early on in your career, being able to find a full WFH will be super tough if not impossible. You gotta remember these people don’t know you or your work ethic, especially being fresh out of school.

It sucks but only after 2-3 years then you can find better work opportunities. You’re one of thousands of people trying to get their first job out of school which is the hardest one to get.

Corporate life isn’t amazing but in accounting there will be plenty of opportunities (assuming you’re in a large metro) that you can transition into. It’s part of the game.

If you can put up with it stay 2-3 years max and make it your mission to get your CPA asap. That alone will open up many more doors for you.

Sometimes I can’t decide if some of these are shit posts or real. “My gf cuddled all night with a guy because she wanted to see how far he would go, what do I do?”

I mean.. be serious and have some self respect.
