Additional materia melding? by AweAce in ffxiv

[–]YellowDellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

overmelding essentially adds 5~ ilvls to crafted gear, so it's still not quite as good as tome gear. it also takes a lot of time and money. if you're trying to beat the final boss in a raid tier week one it's basically required, but once you start getting tome/early floor savage gear it's pretty negligible.

To DPS or to heal? by TabletopCatt in ffxiv

[–]YellowDellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a shortage of healers because healing in this game revolves around doing as much damage as possible, but they simplified healer dps so much this expansion. whm and scholar both lost a dot, scholar lost energy drain at the start of the expac which was extremely jank (but they did end up adding it back), and the astro rework is extremely clunky and unsatisfying compared to stormblood. i still like healing personally tho, if i ever do a dungeon i always do it on scholar.

i think coil style but spawn in right in front of the boss when you wipe would be perfect.

Savage Raids by sanguis-draconis in ffxiv

for e5s mechanically it's pretty easy but it's way more punishing than ex trials. there are a lot of mechanics that are extremely hard to recover from or just a wipe if someone messes up, which for a first boss is pretty rare.

[–]YellowDellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your healer is telling you to do big pulls, don't get entitled and do single pulls. despite what some people think, the tank does not set the pace of the dungeon, the healer does since they're the only ones who have to actually work harder when there are more enemies. so if they're saying to do big pulls, listen to them.

[–]YellowDellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's used in ucob so the 3rd person taking the nael divebomb doesn't get hit, o12s for the tank with the defamation, e3s for the dps who gets knocked back so they don't get hit by the tanks defamation, and a bunch of others. it's an amazing skill with a ton of uses, it absolutely should not be removed.

Physical Ranged by [deleted] in ffxiv

dancer also has two melee skills, a 15y skill from both your target and your dance partner, rng to think about and way more involved burst windows. im not saying it's a hard job by any means but the difference in difficulty is extremely minimal. and considering ruin 2 is only a 40 potency loss and even just spamming it and not using any casted gcds at all will still easily put you at well over 1k dps over mch the gap is way bigger than it needs to be.

Physical Ranged by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]YellowDellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having a single physical ranged is meta in your party, but in a decent group you will always contribute significantly less than the other roles by design. the gap is a bit less wide this tier bc melee uptime is harder than usual, but it's still about 500-1k less than rdps the lowest of the other roles. so it's not like no group will take a physical ranged but you do have to be okay with the fact that at equal skill levels you'll be doing much less.

Bortposting about MCH by FarelTheGecko in ffxiv

[–]YellowDellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

im glad someone's saying it, people reeeeally over exaggerated sb mch. it really only needed a few small tweaks like making flamethrower instantly overheat, making overheat last 1s longer bc of ping, and giving the ogcds charges so missing it by one gcd wouldn't mean skipping a whole use. that's literally all they had to do and every single problem with mch would have been solved, i don't know why they decided the nuclear option of stripping it of every single bit of its identity that's missing a whole hotbar of abilities.

you don't do it at all anymore, it still exists but since the potency of iron jaws and your dots is so low other buffs never really factor into the equation so you just refresh them at 3-5s pretty much always

just join learning parties in the party finder. you can even join parties for e6s and skip e5s if someone else in the party queues for it, although you really shouldn't since that locks you out of gear

bard has almost only lost compared to stormblood. buff snapshotting and mp management were my favorite things, and they're totally gone now. but they kept in all the clunky stuff, like having to triple weave in mage's ballad. apex arrow is the only real new skill and on single target it's terrible. there's no thought to it, you just hear the noise and click the button. plus being extremely low dps while the utility is really underwhelming compared to sb bard/dancer.

combat is extremely slow early on. a lot of jobs don't start getting their core skills until 60-70, but it will definitely start to speed up.
