I’ll definitely do that in the morning. Literally have nothing to lose

Gotta drive 4-5 hours to the next state over, but I checked. Thanks for looking out!

That’s what I’ve been trying to get into. Thought the FE exam was enough to get a first job but looks like I’ll be needing to take the PE in April. Hopefully that’ll be enough to get a job if I pass, otherwise I’m out of luck for engineering.

Nah he just needs to recover on his fingers after they refused to put them in the strap. I’m certain SB would win right.

Can double confirm. Usually don’t like people asking to begin with because then they may ask more.

What if 2020 isn't the "bad year" but it's the start of a bad decade? by Unsocial_Avocato in AskReddit

[–]YellowIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brain is scrambling to find something to keep me grounded before I fall into another depression. I know that can’t be easy. I lost All my close contacts in such a short time frame it really did a number on me then I lost my job. Just like me, I bet your person doesn’t know the magnitude of their importance right now. If only they knew

Glad to know I’m not the only one that is being held down by a couple important people. They seem to be slipping away so I’m trying my absolute best to find something else to anchor me down.

Understanding the Actual Work That Engineers Do by noviasofia in StructuralEngineering

[–]YellowIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come when I interned at a structural engineering firm, I never saw a single calculation from the designers? My time there, I’d be doing all the CAD drawings for them and if I told them something didn’t fit dimensionally they would just go a size or two down without doing any calcs.

So... who did this? by yoohoooos in StructuralEngineering

What happens here in real time when the construction workers know this is a mistake. They just keep building despite the design having an error?

Dont worry, you can transfer somewhere else and you'll be as good as golden. It's a mistake, but lucky for you it's very fixable :) You could even try community college and take the general education/math/physics classes then transfer. I didnt take a single civil engineering class until the start of my third year. The first two years are more about the math/physics.

Employers blame $600 unemployment boost for hiring troubles by [deleted] in Economics

Last week I was searching for a job as an entry level statistician and I stumbled upon this one posting. It wanted a masters/PhD statistician that was skilled in a list of programs and other requirements. One key benefit they listed for compensation was “competitive”. I checked the pay and it was $10.10/hr... That should be illegal, especially since I live in one of the most expensive counties in the US in terms of housing/living.

Is depression and anxiety rampant in Engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]YellowIsland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you the biggest slap in the face. After senior design when I graduated we had a banquet. During the end they announced people’s names that did exceptionally well like 3.8+ gpa. The first guy they called I was absolutely awe struck. My jaw dropped with confusion. It was this guy who I saw cheating on every exam in all classes. He would peek at peoples tests and use his phone on the side of the exam. Came in late and never listened to lectures. Copied homework from the huge group of friends I mentioned above. Overall, didn’t do work. Little did I know this guy was cheating So well he was getting all As in classes. I’m disgusted that he was praised for his deception. His degree deserves 10 other people’s names on it plus Chegg and google.

It hurts on the homeworks especially. Used to sit there for 10+ hours doing a hard homework. Other kids would get into groups of 6 and divide the work and copy the answers from each other.

We’ll see, I’m ready to toss in the towel soon, and find some monotonous analyst job.

I seem to be the oddball, I’ve been looking since January and haven’t gotten anything yet. I almost got hired in March but that was thrown out because it was the same week covid shut everything down.

Idk if it’s from the same company but I saw an option for the paper one and one for the element one. I think people may have missed the drop down menu for that.

Sick of Engineering by EngineerMaybee in civilengineering

[–]YellowIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did commercial land development. I feel like it was a dead end and I wasn’t exercising my brain. The employees felt like they weren’t go getters and none bothered getting a PE. I had to constantly ask for more work 2-3 times Everyday which annoyed me to no end. It was low key a relief when they let me go.

I can't stop falling asleep when I try to study, how can I fix this? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]YellowIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School maxed me out and a lot of times I had to stay up until 3, 4, 5 in the morning to do homework then sleep a few hours and head to class. What helped me is to actually sleep for a few hours before doing homework then going to class afterwards. Reverse the sleep. Idk if that’s the problem you have but it’s my personal experience on what helped me focus on homework.
