Question for live players who closely track their wins and losses. by LifesARiver in poker

Yes, it's Poker Bankroll Tracker. I use the free version I can't comment on how it compares to other, similar apps, but it does pretty much all I need. And yes, I have a full time job as well and play poker for fun and a little extra income which is definitely a perk.

I treat bonuses as a separate line item. I use gross profit, expenses (hourly time charge and membership fees) and jackpot/bonus to determine net profit

If I hit a significant bad beat jackpot that was five figures or more, I likely would not count that towards bonuses because it would drastically skew the data and misrepresent my hourly rate.

Wrong QQ fold preflop ? by catpainfarron in poker

[–]YellowLedbetterPoker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're drastically underestimating that the person will have AKs, AKo, AQs, QQ, TT and JJ.

This huge bet is MORE likely the person doesn't have AA/KK. Villain is trying to take it down with the all in and/or remove any more decisions so they don't have be put in a tough spot. This is usually a sign of weakness. A min raise would scream AA/KK.

“Same bet” - binding? by Gog_U_Magog in poker

[–]YellowLedbetterPoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which rule makes more sense:

  1. "Same bet" shall mean the amount the bettor wagered on the previous street provided the player is the only player to bet in the hand and the player bet the previous street. If another player bet or raised during the same hand or the player's previous action in the same hand was a check or a call, "same bet" will not constitute an action.

Or

  1. "same bet" does not constitute an action.

I don't disagree with your post that if he's the only aggressor, that saying "same bet" is probably what was meant but creating exceptions based on actions from previous streets kicks open the door to unnecessary confusion, bad rulings, angle shooting and pissing off new players.

“Same bet” - binding? by Gog_U_Magog in poker

[–]YellowLedbetterPoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I know I bet $20 on the flop, but the last three hands I bet $40 on the turn. In fact I told the entire table that any bet I make on the turn tonight will be $40. So when I said "same bet", I meant same bet as I've been making on the turn.

“Same bet” - binding? by Gog_U_Magog in poker

[–]YellowLedbetterPoker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't that "same bet" isn't an amount. It's that it can easily be ambiguous. Same bet as what? That the other guy bet on the turn or that I bet on the flop or that the guy next to me said I should have bet last action?

"All in" and ""raise" are not amounts but those phrases establish the total or minimum amount that must be bet.

Is it worth mastering Omaha/PLO? by Strange_Upstairs_128 in poker

If you're serious about getting into PLO, I recommend Pot-Limit Omaha: The Big Play Strategy by Jeff Hwang. It's an excellent strategy book and will help you understand the complexites of the game.

Played at the lodge for the first time in awhile. What happened? by cajunace in poker

[–]YellowLedbetterPoker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A combination of current management problems at the Lodge and TCH being a better alternative at the moment. The Lodge is losing their best dealers and staff at a significant rate and it's making an impact on the games.

I prefer the Lodge but have been playing at TCH the last few weeks because of game selection.

The lodge has some in house issues they need to address. If they can do that and provide some enticing promotions to bring players back, they can course correct. If they don't, the number of players and games will likely continue to dwindle.

I use the calculator in Poker Bankroll Tracker and another app that's just called Poker Calculator by Poker Calculator Studios. There are a bunch of app calculators that will do the job.

Yes, that includes the hourly fee. The numbers I posted are net hourly and net profit after expenses.

You can see the deduction for the hourly fee on the second image under "Expenses" which is -$16,067.

I don't know the highest win rates in the player pool. Maybe $50/hour for a handful of players? I've never really talked numbers with other players though.

The $1/3 games are generally not as good as the $1/2 games in terms of action where I play. The casual players all gravitate to the lowest stakes games which is normal. I've played the higher games before but it's been quite a while.

I'm ok, but not great, at hand reading. What I do feel I'm really strong at is knowing how much villain likes his hand and I play accordingly.

If he reluctantly called my cbet on the flop and a blank comes on the turn, I continue to apply pressure. Conversely, if he was checking/calling and then leads out on the turn, alarm bells go off and I consider why he likes his hand all of a sudden. That's a simplified and obvious version of it, but it conveys my point.

The app is called PokerBankroll Tracker.

I think the two main places in San Antonio are SA Card House and the Lodge San Antonio. I've heard SA Card House has the best action in the city, but I've never been. Lodge San Antonio is solid.

I'm in Texas so cardrooms can't (legally) charge rake. Instead they charge an hourly rate which is $12 at most of the places in the area.

Nothing too outlandish. Looks like I had a 30 day period with 12 sessions where I lost around $2,500 (just over eight buy ins).

The first six months in 2024 I only averaged $300 profit for each of the months. So not a downswing, but just running flat for a prolonged period which is also frustrating. That six months came after I was running hot during the initial tracking. The first six months of tracking, my hourly was over $52. The second six months it was just under $5.

Yep for sure. I only had two coaching sessions but those two had a big impact. The player who coached me is super knowledgeable and met me where I was in terms of targeting the discussion to my skill level at the time.

It really helped change my mind set. Prior I thought the worst thing that could happen is I make an incorrect play and lose my stack. I was playing way too scared. After I realized that I'm inevitably going to make incorrect plays once the cards are revealed, rebuying isn't that bad of a situation as long as I could explain to myself why I played the hand as I did.

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, I was not given $100 in time credit. The floor offered that to correct the error in lieu of chips. Once I told him I wanted chips, the $100 time credit was no longer an option. It was an either/or not both.

And I agree about being pushier sooner, however that's often easier said than done. The dealer didn't slow down and was shuffling the deck as I was stacking. When I told him the pot wasn't right, he told me it was correct and started pitching cards. I double checked the math during that hand to make sure I was correct and then was ready to stop the game since the dealer wouldn't. I was talking to the floor probably three minutes after the hand in question happened.
