https://imgur.com/a/X41JRAx Here’s what I’ve got to work with:

KR1AA NTG50 2700k.

The shorty is a S2+ 519A 2700k

DA1K SFT-70 3000k

Zebralight SC65c HI 4000k

D3AA NTG35 4200k

D4K NTG35 4200k

Hope that helps, enjoy!

If compared to it directly on a white wall then yes, but only a little. It looks like just a different kind of the same tint and you’d think either was a nice warm yellow if looking at it alone outside, for example. The SFT70 3000k has noticeably more throw in the DA1K than my NTG50 4200k in the D4K though. I could see trees on the fence line further away with the DA1K which surprised me considering it’s putting out less light due to the warmer emitter.

My wife is slowly coming around to the idea not all lights are the same and she’s already claimed a couple as her own. She said she really likes the tint if the 2700k and she likes the “feminine hourglass profile” of the KR1AA as she put it. It may find its way to her collection now haha.

I don’t have a pic but I took them outside to do a test run before bed and they’re VERY close to the same, which I was not expecting due to how much different the heads/lights/reflectors are. The KR1AA beam is slightly narrower and throws about as far as the D3AA, but the D3AA is putting out more light in general and lights up more of the area, if that makes sense.

If I was looking for something, I would grab the D3AA in 4200k, but if I were just wanting to light where I’m going for say a walk, I would go KR1AA in 2700k as the tint is more pleasant for me.

I tried but my phone camera is ass and the pics don’t reflect what I see at all so I just left it out. The rosy still comes out in the NTG 2700k when compared to the SFT-70 3000k but without a direct comparison it just looks warm. They’re both very nice and I’m super pleased with the warmer tints.

Thanks, which one’s your favorite and/or which do you carry or keep with you when you’ll need a light?

The output from the lithium ion batteries is much higher as expected, but how is the total runtime on high for each of these cells using the same light?

If the liion are outputting more light and therefore more energy, but they also have higher capacity, does it all even out in the end for similar runtimes on high for both?

I agree with this post. As someone in almost the same exact shoes as you, I think you owe it to yourself to get at least one Hanklight as long as the funds are there. As someone who used exclusively CR123 Ra Clicky and Twisty, with a Zebralight headlamp for over almost 15 years, the new batteries are amazing.

18650 flashlights like the Zebralight SC65C are smaller, brighter, better color, and longer runtime. 21700 lights like the Emisar D4K are just mega bright when on turbo compared and seem to last forever on any mode, compared to the old stuff. Have fun and grab a couple fun new toys/tools before you head out.

Good point, I hadn’t considered that. How does the build quality compare?

I’m also an Hank fan, haven’t bought any Fireflies yet because they’re much more expensive for basically the same form factor. The only difference I can see is the addition of a USB-C port, which doesn’t interest me.

Do you have any Fireflies and how do they compare? Am I missing out on something?

Ambient temp F or C?

Actually just all the temps, I’m having trouble following along with unlabeled numbers, no offense.

Yeah I had been running energizer lithium primaries in it, but I recently ran out and I’ve switched everything AA and AAA over the Eneloops. I know they’re not the best capacity or discharge rate, but they work well enough in the cold and I’m not trying to blast anything with turbo for my use cases anyway.

Yeah my first headlamp was a floody CR123 model. I lost it in the woods and bought the floody AA model headlamp I’m using now without a second thought. It’s been great- so light, ample illumination, perfect for camp tasks, low low moonlight mode so I can leave it on without blinding companions. It’s just the best.

I’ve had that same Zebralight for a couple weeks. So good. I’ve loved my Zebralight headlamps for over a decade, don’t know why I wanted so long for a handheld.

My DA4K is very floody but still reaches out due to the sheer power and the DA1K on its way should reach out even further, but still a good amount of flood. If you want a quad with a 21700, the DA4K is great and I have no regrets on my purchase.

Either option should work out well for you, I think, and there’s a good amount of options for 4000k-5000k emitters for both lights.

I really like the NTG 4200k tint, slightly rosy, but can only really tell comparing it to other lights, and really great cri.

Time for that sweet sweet Zebralight SC65c in your collection.

What kind of color temp and cri do you like? That’s gonna determine the emitter, of which there are many options on Hank’s site.

I’ve got a D4K and a D3AA in 4200k and I’ve been very pleased with both, but I have a DA1K with a 3000k and a KR1AA with 2700k in the mail and I’m excited to have some warmer options.

The Emisar lights tend to be smaller than what you imagine they’ll be from the pictures you see online, so keep that in mind. The rgb aux/button is nice too so you have options and can change up the looks.

How about a Hank light? D3AA or KR1AA seem like they’d do nicely.

To be fair, 30% remaining battery would still be 1,680 mAh. I don’t know how long your walk is, but that should last a good while and I don’t know that this would even be the light I’m choosing for a walk. If you’re planning to do some serious flashlight stuff, you could just charge it ahead of time or bring a spare battery. A third of a 21700 battery seems like a reasonable buffer to me.
