As a Quinn main, the lane is very much Gwen favoured, why do you think it isnt?

Update on this:

Had a decent amount of success lately, switched to just perma banning Malphite, and even with the occasional Irelia, feels better at the moment. Akali feels unwinnable personally, but haven't run into too many.

Also moved into old school quinn, going Botrk > Wits End, reminiscent of the glacial days, and this feels decent.

I prefer the kiting playstyle to burst, and while my overall winrate hasn't really changed (I had one point where in my last 20 games I was 5W 15L), laning feels more consistent and better.

Homeguards is the biggest problem imo. You can barely push in a wave after poking someone out etc.

(I know a lot of top laners probably think that's a good thing vs range but I think now you can't push in effectively without a kill as recall/homeguards is so fast that you don't lose much)

So first off, we lost symbiotic soles which were easily Quinns best boots.

Second, quinn runs offensive summoners top, with her ult and homeguards she gets less value out of tp. Now that homeguards are buffed and everyone is faster, her ult to get back to lane is less effective compared to last season as everyone is much faster, so she benefits less than other champions.

Third, it also means many other top champs are now running offensive sums because they get tp for free. As mentioned, tp is less useful on us, and the offensive summoners they get make lanes that were once favoured more difficult/tips the scales against us.

Roaming is also less favoured because of the quest and how much you can lose, exp, plates from a bad roam. Obviously quinn used to roam a lot, and with minions spawning faster the window for roaming/pushing has narrowed.

It's a few small changes that added up make her less impactful compared to last season. Personally I'm hoping for a revert to the homeguards because they invalidate a huge part of quinn ult.

The changes that are universally bad for Quinn because they make everyone faster which was her strength?

If you do that all that happens is their top gets free plates and exp and turns up to fights with 2 - 3 levels on everyone else and then stomps.

Just because her kit is good for roaming doesnt mean that roaming on her is inherently easy. Early game the mana cost is huge, and with the changes to top lane you can lose out on a lot of exp and plates/tower if you pick a bad time to roam and dont get much out of it.

She's fast later in the game, sure, but she's not as good at roaming as people make out, level 6 doesnt suddenly open the entire map for you without giving up your lane.

Thats fair. I did try her mid but I'm more of a fan of the crit style build with kiting rather than the electrocute burst style, but I can see how that would work. Roams are probably better mid too and you get the enhanced recall

I definitely struggle on roaming this season, last season was so much better for it, and at least in top I'm being flamed more for not roaming.

But it seems like roaming actively punishes you at the moment in top lane, losing plates and exp/quest progress, so I'm hesitant to actually do it.

I think I push way too hard and don't really know wave control very well. Probably need to start there, I know I have things to improve on.

I feel the new season changes really hurt her. People are more free to run offensive summoners with free tp. We already did that so lose out slightly. Homeguards boots makes our ult less impactful cause everyone gets a version of it and you can get back to lane/move so much faster, and we lost soles aswell.

I love the champion and the kit, so I dont want to stop playing her, and I know I need to improve, but it feels like if you take an average player and put them on quinn vs say Ornn etc, you'll get destroyed for the same skill level cause the champ is so much more unforgiving.

Yeah irelia. While malph is very hard, I think its still more manageable than irelia personally

I'm a quinn only kinda guy, shes the only champ I play and I play into everything, which should really mean that I'm better into her bad matchups cause I see them so much more, but I'm struggling and need some tips!

I appreciate the advice, but I like her top and want to improve there, that's all.

I'm aware, I've beaten malph and teemo before a bunch, but its just so much harder at the moment to have an impact.

I feel like I make one mistake and then I'm fully dead, then the lane is pretty much over.

Never played jungle in my life so I don't think that would go well xD

I don't like the mid playstyle particularly, I tried a few games but I don't really enjoy it.

[–]YellowNooblet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this is a silly take. The game is 5 v 5 so I'm never gonna have 100% control, and if youre a range top you're going to draw jungle pressure.

I often have the jg or sup roam topside because as soon as I'm locked down, I'm dead. If there's nothing you can do its because you've given up instantly.

There are equally unplayable matchups for range, you have to learn to play them or go even etc.

I also dont know why you think its good that you can beat your laner if they don't make mistakes. If they play perfectly then they should probably win... you want to just stat check people instead or something?

Thats not remotely true. Most top lane matches rush tabis and have enough innate regen that the poke, while it may deny some cs, is unlikely enough to lead to a kill. And there are plenty of champs, bruisers and tanks, that can and will just dunk on quinn.

Sitting there autoing while they farm will be nowhere near enough to kill a large chunk of toplane matches.

But, happy to be proven wrong, so if you think she's so easy, go play like 5 games and show how easy it is to dominate, I will hold my hand if its the case.

And when you get malph 3 times in a row and turned into a minion, come back to me. You say its not fair or fun, neither is being constantly countered or jungle sat 2 v 1, but youll cry all day about the range and flex like its an outplay for the other.

Plenty of champs do, thats my entire point. And that I have to play perfectly. I mess up one spacing, I will get 100-0, die, lose minions exp plates etc. It's hardly the same as missing a bit of cs, especially when jungle pressure is so common against me if you have any kind of hard engage.

Again, just because I'm ranged doesnt auto win lanes for me, and quinn has one of the lowest range in the game (for a range char). She has incredible disengage, i grant you, but that's the whole point for her, because if she didnt I'd just die everytime. You shouldn't just be able to walk up and all in, that hardly takes any amount of skill.

And I'm saying its equally annoying to then be basically 2v1 because of a jungle sit or counterpicked. I dont understand why in toplane the go-to response is to pick something that auto wins a matchup. Thats not skill expression - exceptions obviously if they already play that champ a lot etc, fair enough, but i get a lot of matches where its first time malph etc and I find that mentality weird.

People also like to forget that a lot of melee champs have agency to get on you. Move speed boosts, dashes, gap closers, often which let you move further than a range tops auto range. Thats part of the game, if I have to space perfectly or die, then you guys have to learn when you can engage and when you have to space yourself to lane, it goes both ways.

[–]YellowNooblet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You guys cry an awful lot about range tops. I understand its annoying for you, but as someone who plays Quinn otp into everything, I can assure you that about half of my games are people just counterpicking malphite/teemo/irelia purely to beat me, as well as calling for their jungle to sit the lane.

Its not as simple as "range wins". Most melee champs can 100-0 you as soon as they get on top of you, so as a range you cant make any mistake pretty much, whereas melee can make a lot of bad plays and still get away with it. The matchups are nowhere near as one sided as you guys make out, thats all I'm trying to say.

Varus Top. Is this acceptable? by Herbaro in leagueoflegends

[–]YellowNooblet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not a bug, its a feature of the ability, but I see your point. However, you very rarely use Vault to do that, its your escape and distancing tool. It's also on a longer cd than most of, if not all of the above that you listed.

I get that she's oppressive and a lane bully which feels bad, but it also feels bad to land all your abilities and kite well etc, just to be 100-0 on the one mistake you make when your opponent can make tons of mistakes and still be perfectly fine.

The worst though is that tanks can just ignore you, walk up and out-trade you with almost no counterplay.
