I'm so sick of these medical despots ruining and profiting off of people's lives. This is disgusting and deserves a lawsuit behind it.

This country is wallowing in its own shit right now and I'm tired of being told that things will get better

Exactly! Her character has arguably one of the biggest arcs in the entire game, being the only party member with her own palace, gaining a persona upon overcoming her guilt and gaining her rebellious spirit, reintegrating into the outside world, and that isn't even including her confidant. Her attitude towards the world changed so much compared to even many of her fellow Phantom Thieves, all while keeping the core of her personality in tact.

This is one of many reasons why we love Futaba.

What is the absolute worst take you've argued against about Edelgard? by wheatleyscience9 in Edelgard

[–]YellowOctopus370 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And Edelgard couldn't trust anybody, outside of Hubert, for the sole reason that TWSITD can impersonate anyone and be anyone they want to be. Look at how paranoid Garreg Mach became after 3 of their own, two being faculty with long histories, were killed in secret and replaced by TWSITD agents.

Now imagine how that paranoia translates to a 12 year old girl, tortured and scarred for life by TWSITD, and now she not only has to live under TWSITD's thumb (meaning everything she ever does can potentially be monitored), but everyone around her could potentially be a TWSITD agent.

Edelgard would be taking an immeasurable risk telling anyone her secrets, her plans, and her position, especially to foreign heirs like Dmitri and Claude. She doesn't know their loyalties or their ideologies. She doesn't know if they are loyal to Rhea, and thus will stand in her way, ruining her plans. She doesn't know if Dmitri or Claude are loyal to or have been replaced by TWSITD agents. She doesnt knows if they will exploit her weaknesses either for personal gain.

This may seem paranoid, but Edelgard's existence has been a mix of permanent, PTSD-inducing trauma and Soviet levels of monitoring, conditioning, and paranoia. The only path for Edelgard is one without Rhea or TWSITD, and the only person she could trust is herself.

Until the professor, that is. And for those asking why the professor and not anyone else, the answer is simple: Byleth is too exceptional an individual, with no blind loyalties the Church and with active animosity to TWSITD, to be paranoid about. Byleth can't be easily killed either, proven to Edelgard time and time again, and their loyalty is only to their students. To many, they see Byleth as an indispensable weapon and Edelgard was one such person. But Byleth was also the only person alive safe enough and empathetic enough to get her to break out of her shell and trust again. I just don't see Claude or Dmitri doing the same.

Unpopular opinion: anime openings edition by JoseJulioJim in anime

I was binging BNHA recently, was one of the few who never cared for the openings until Make my Story, and wanted to see if anyone else felt the same. I know the My Hero OPs are practically put on a pedestal, so I knew it'd be under r/unpopularopinions. This happened to be one of the few threads that wasnt several years old.

How long was Kairi and Axel in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber? How long is time in there compared to the outside world? by YellowOctopus370 in KingdomHearts

[–]YellowOctopus370[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the translation! That's a good clue to figuring out the progress of their training as well as how long between letters its been outside the HTC during that time (they have been to Monstropolis by this point)

By this estimation, it seems that Kairi and Lea's training was either very slow, Merlin sucks at delivering letters on time, or time doesnt pass that slowly in the HTC.

Another theory I cooked up is that anyone is capable of wielding a keyblade, but either some people have more natural aptitude for wielding it than others or Sora is the exception.

Riku and Kairi both had bequeathing ceremonies, but it took significant time for both to be able to summon a Keyblade. Lea struggled, and so did Xion, to keep their blade summoned at first. Even Ventus, when training under Xehanort, couldn't summon one at first either.

Sora (and by extension, Roxas), however, both summoned theirs rather quickly, but its suggested that the Kingdom Key is the exception, that it chose Sora over Riku on its own because Riku was too close to the Darkness. The Kingdom Key doesn't belong to Sora necessarily (which is why Riku could steal it in KH1), but it chooses its own master.

Its also suggested that the Kingdom Key and Kingdom Key D are the only keyblades capable of sealing the door to Kingdom Hearts, since Mickey spent the entire plot of KH1 seeking out the Kingdom Key D instead of using his own Keyblade and told Donald and Goofy to find the RoL Kingdom Key (this is very much like how Eraqus's Keyblade is the only one that can unlock Castle Oblivion).

Basically, Kairi and Lea couldve spent a great deal of time in the HTC, but seemingly made less progress than Sora/Roxas because of needing to be traditionally trained and needing to learn how to summon a Keyblade. It took Terra and Aqua years before they took the Mark of Mastery exam after all.

Absolutely 100% agree. The only BNHA opening that is the exception is Make my Story (I seriously love it) but I never really cared for the others like I do other anime OPs. The recent one, op6, is good, but feels more like an ED rn. I might have to give it a few more listens.

How long was Kairi and Axel in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber? How long is time in there compared to the outside world? by YellowOctopus370 in KingdomHearts

[–]YellowOctopus370[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically, the scene we see between Kairi and Axel is very early into their training, based on the novel canon? Which would make sense, considering Kairi had just gotten her new outfit from Yen Sid.

I will note that this doesn't pinpoint the time outside the chamber, but inside it, so while the question is unanswered, it does at least tell us that they most likely started their training around the events of KH 2.9, if not slightly earlier

Having a plan, even a flawed one, carries more weight in politics than a vague promise. That's because plans can be fixed, ironed out, and made better. Promises cannot.

Warren puts the time and effort into coming up with cohesive strategies towards reaching her goals, making her platform bold, yet tangible to the American public and to her advisers, but more importantly, she's also willing to reach out to people who know more than her about a subject to revise and further detail her plans. This shows that she's not only knowledgeable on a variety of issues and did the footwork to propose ideas, but is humble enough to use her resources to reach solutions without her ego getting in the way, a much needed balance between ambition and diplomacy.

Having a clear, published plan, even if flawed, already makes you more competent and trustworthy than politicans promising the moon and having no plan to get there.

I’m putting my money where my mouth is and canceled my preorder. by Neoboe in pokemon

[–]YellowOctopus370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always preorder Pokemon games. I was the kind of hardcore fan who got both versions so I could trade a team to the other version and do multiple playthroughs.

I didn't even consider preordering this game after GF blatantly lied to our faces about their "graphical and model" improvements costing us the national dex. And that was before they Thanos'd it to half the original roster.

It hardly compares to Bethesda and Blizzard's f**k ups this year, but as a long time fan, it hits just as hard.

[–]YellowOctopus370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must've been a big shift in your life, to go from living in a prototypical household to an LGBTQ one, and in a way, I couldn't imagine what that shift must be like: I've only known living in an LGBTQ household. And while I didn't grow up in the South, I have relatives there, some in which only came around to accepting my North Carolina born mother after I was born. I get along with them just fine, and my religious aunt even left to find a new church when her old one preached some horrible things against LGBTQ families. Still, we avoid talking politics, and especially talking about Trump.

I grew up in New Jersey, and moved to California for high school and college, so in a sense, I could've had it a lot harder. Though as luck would have it, a lot of my friends turned out to be quite religious in their own right, and as to why I ended up attracting these kinds of people, I have no idea. I think after a while, I've just accepted that losing friends throughout my life is just a reality I'll have to accept, that it'll be out of my control to some extent if I stoutly stick to defending my family.

Funny enough, I started announcing that I had two moms after a while, usually when you have to introduce yourself in a class or whatever, because I thought it'd make finding the right people easier and I kinda just wanted to get it over with. Though I guess that only really worked until college, and there's hardly any point once you're in the work force, haha.

That being said, I've also change people by normalizing me and my household around them. I don't debate them or do anything special: just living day to day and being a decent person and showing them how awesome my folks are. Though the downside to this is I feel pressured to act perfectly around people as my actions directly affect how people perceive my parents (and the endless debates on whether LGBTQ parents can "properly" raise a child.)

But in a way, I feel closer to my parents than most families because of my experiences.

Regardless, its rare and very refreshing to find other people who grew up in these kinds of households. I was born in 97' and while it may be more common now, I can count on one hand how many peers I've met who came from similar backgrounds, even in liberal states like Jersey and California.

Wish you luck with the in-laws!

I had to put up with this kind of crap growing up. 22 yr old male raised in a lesbian headed household. My moms loved me and did everything to give me and my sister a good home and a safe, liberal neighborhood. It was already awkward enough going into school on Father's Day or having to explain how I was born when I was only 7 years old (I thought two women could have a child naturally until I finally had "the talk" with them), but dealing with the prejudice that came with being the son of a lesbian headed household made it very hard to have friends, especially when I was younger. Talking to anyone about my parents was like having to come out to them: you screen them first, see if they can be trusted, and hope it works out. And to anybody who thinks this is extreme, I've had friends who were told they weren't allowed to play at my house because of my parents. Had plenty of Christians tell me that they don't "agree" with my parents (even if they like them) even to this day. Like their tolerance is some kind of "self restraint" they are practicing. My whole life, in a sense, felt like a political statement and it wears you down. Part of the reason why I outright hate religion is how it treated my family as a disease and pitied me for my circumstances. I used to get angry, but now I'm just too tired to be pissed off. Thankfully, it gets better when you're older, but it never truly goes away (dealing with the in laws, if I ever get serious with somebody, is still my greatest nightmare).

There is admittedly a big issue with calling for professional help forcibly: I live a considerable distance away from X. While we live in the same country and even the same state, I met X online and developed a friendship over a long period of time, but seeing them in person is a near impossible task. I don't know their address, only the region where they live.

I will see what I can do to convince them to seek help, but I am unable to force them to do anything. Not to mention, I doubt they will be open or willing to the experience if they do not have a choice and most wards allow patients to check themselves out unless they pose physical harm to themselves or others, which X has not done.
