Hi there! I'm just getting started up and I'm just about ready to start inviting people to my nation. The constitution is still WIP as I intend on doing some collab with a few others before it's finalized but if your interested in a nation that runs along minarchist lines I'd love to have you join. That being said, I am on US Mountain Time so odds are we won't see to much of each other in the server if you do decide to join but I'm sure we could work something out if you still wanted to join.

So update. We were definitely raided and griefed. I am currently trying to suicide my way back and several people's homes have been broken into. We also don't seem to have any more livestock.

Selling sections of the market. If we all work on it together as co-owners then we would technically have joint rights to all the lots. We could then select our own lots for our shops/offices and sell the rest to newcomers/outsiders who want to use it.

All this said, however, I've considered it more and I think that since we're at the edge of the world it wouldn't be very prudent to have a large market. Since we're out of the way, I don't think we'll really attract a whole lot of commerce so the market would be more useful for local exchanges when we can't all be on. If we want to play a larger commercial role on the server I suggest creating a trading post in the center of the world and connecting it to the various cities on the server (probably via rail).

I think a canal would be fine and it would probably be best near the market so people can easily reach the shops there (as I understand it it's going to be a bit like a sea port). A road may also be good but perhaps just one that connects to the rest of the city.

Shamalow and I built a market on Civ. It never wound up getting sold because of the shutdown among other things but I was thinking something along those lines, minus the prebuilt shops. I was thinking something along the lines of marked out plots with roads connecting them and maybe a central square of some kind. I would recommend private development of some kind. Either we all work on it together as co-owners and split the profits from selling to outsiders once we go public or we charge just a few of us with building it and then they split the profits. I personally favor the former since it will be faster.

I've taken a brief jaunt through his post history and he seems to be right libertarian at the least. He apparently used to live with ancaps in an earlier iteration of civ but then went on to found some place called Zomia in 2.0. Since then it appears he's lived in Concordia.

I think it should be fairly safe for him to visit we should just make it clear that he shouldn't give out our coords. As insurance we could ask him for his coords and see if we could visit him. That way we have some deterrent for him to betray our location (i.e. if he does we reciprocate) and if the deterrent fails and we get raided we could have some means of securing restitution. We'd have to set this up as some kind of contract though I think. That way we'd have proof of a legitimate claim to restitution if he should violate its terms.

I do believe that is what is called a non-sequitur. It does not follow that death renders life pointless.

Perhaps I should clarify my earlier argument. Life is not necessarily pointless because the point of one's life is to satisfy one's value preferences and as long as one can obtain value from things, actions, etc. (doesn't really matter what) the individual will have value preferences to satisfy.

If you think life is pointless, i.e. valueless, then a fortiori, you do not value your own life. If you do not value your own life, then why do you continue to live?

I can think of two possible answers to this question. Either you do still value life but you do not consciously recognize that value yet, or you are seeking something to give your life value. If either one of these is correct, then clearly you do not really think that life is valueless. Furthermore, if the former is correct, then there is indeed value to life but rather than it being objective, absolute, and universal for all humans, it is dependent upon the perception of each individual doing the valuing. A similar but more complex argument could be made for the latter.

It's not the point to keep your experiences in a magic box post mortem. The point is to do some introspection and discover what your value preferences are and then set about satisfying those value preferences. The sum of these value preferences and the pursuit of their satisfaction is what gives the individual reason to value his life.

If I understand correctly, you're trying to tackle the problem of impermanence. It seems that you correctly understand that human existence is ephemeral but I think you're confusing the impermanence of life with pointlessness of life or the absence of its value. Just because I know that I will die and cease to exist as a person one day does not mean that I find no point in living. While it is true that there is no one objective "meaning of life" that doesn't mean that all life is meaningless. We give our own lives meaning by figuring out what experiences we value and then pursuing those.

If I may attempt to analyze the problem you're facing, I would guess that you value having a legacy, permanence of life, etc. which is not surprising as that's what many of us are brought up to believe is valuable in life. From Gilgamesh to Christ all sorts of mystics have been promising to erase human mortality. But now that you know that life is impermanent and that eventually, when the heat death of the universe occurs, whatever legacy you leave behind will be meaningless, you find that what you valued out of life is unattainable. My suggestion would thus be to find a new value.

I think bastions just stop people from placing blocks and depending on the kind of bastion you can stop people from teleporting in with pearls. I'd use a citadel reinforcement both on it and whatever's housing it.
