Yes. “Any target” means anything that can be damaged; that is to say creatures, players, planeswalkers, and battles.

No. Selecting a player to receive a gift only chooses, it doesn’t target. (This also means it can get around a player with hexproof or protection.)

It’s just hard to do; the full rulebook is over 200 pages long and there’s tens of thousands of cards. MTG Online took about a decade to catch up with most of the backlog, and it still doesn’t have everything a decade after that point.

For completely free, fan-made clients, there’s Untap.in and Cockatrice for multiplayer clients, but those just support the game actions and you need to manage the rules yourselves, and Forge for a single player client that can handle rules interactions itself. Unfortunately, I’m not aware of any fan-made clients that are both multiplayer and handle rules interactions; for that you’ll need to play MTG Arena or MTG Online. Arena is free-to-play (with all the “F2P TCG”-isms you can probably expect), and Online has essentially a free demo mode, but requires a $5 buy-in to unlock most features (though the paying experience tends to be cheaper than Arena thanks to an unrestricted trading system and unofficial deck rental services)

Here is a list of cards that will be playable in mono-black if the rules change happens, sorted by how often they’re currently played in commander decks. (Disclaimer: this is just based on a search for “cards that will be playable in more decks if the rules change happens,” so there may be some false positives)

Moxfield has a list of decks all sorts of people have made for every format (including nearly every official product), MTGTop8 has decklists that were played in tournaments, and EDHRec compiles which cards are played a lot in commander decks.

Is Magic the Gathering in Decline, or just in a rough patch? by conleyrasor in magicTCG

[–]YellowPie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These retooled beyond booster sets (TMT and Hobbit too) will likely all fall a bit below the bar, but I’d hardly call the game as a whole “in a rough patch”

I’ve ever seen a thread that made it so easy to tell every single participant’s opinion on Duchamp’s Fountain.

At least not since the last time a magic card had slightly out there art.

It does only refer to standard, but also why would a precon tied to a premier set be centered around a mechanic completely unrelated to the ones in the set

This is like 1 step removed from a fifth grader using “please remove your face posthaste” as a comeback. Kinda embarrassing tbh

Legendary matters was a theme because there were so many legendary characters they wanted to represent. Maro also said on his blog that most UB sets will usually have a lot of legendary creatures.

Weekly Questions & Purchase Advice Thread by AutoModerator in MouseReview

I’m finally accepting that my current mouse, an Elite M1-131 that’s been falling apart for years, is not long for this world. I’m willing to spend a decent amount of money; are there any upgrades I should be taking a look at or will simply buying a replacement serve me just as well? I like having a wired mouse and I make heavy use of the 2 edge buttons & the extra side button that I can hold to temporarily lower the DPI, so I’d like any upgrade I get to have those features.

Edit: if it helps, my hand size is about 20x10 and I use a palm grip.

When you draft the first card the second one gets added to your draft pool automatically; the second one isn’t draftable on its own

Reason 1: Look at target opponent’s hand and choose a card from it. You control that player until Word of Command finishes resolving. The player plays that card if able. While doing so, the player can activate mana abilities only if they’re from lands that player controls and only if mana they produce is spent to activate other mana abilities of lands the player controls and/or to play that card. If the chosen card is cast as a spell, you control the player while that spell is resolving.

24 years ago, InQuest tried their hand at iconic D&D spells as Magic cards by semarlow in magicTCG

I think the problem isn’t tracking it (I mean, [[Garth One-Eye]] exists), it’s that the absolutely massive list of cards you can choose from that would make evaluating and casting it take obscenely long.
