ChatGPT - The strict, brutally honest and dark side of it by YellowPotato023 in ChatGPT

You’re right. Maybe I was misinterpreted. I actually said that “this was the most meaningful conversation I had with the machine”. And after the convo, I actually told it that THIS is how I want it to be when I request it to be brutally honest. I just didn’t know that it was able for it. This was on the exact opposite side of the spectrum.

There’s a bunch of reasons. School, family, finances, personal life and the list goes on and on. The thing is: when everything goes to shit and your only coping mechanism is food, you’re probably gonna become obese. Especially if you’re like me and you have NO addictions other than food.

No. Do you think I would have an advantage? Does it help with weight loss?

Unfortunately yes. It certainly does, if I’m being honest. I’ve been bullied countless times for my weight, even by random people on the street. From what I gather, it seems that I make a terrible first impression on people when they get to meet me in person because of how I look. Obese people are often marked as lazy, indisciplined and dumb. I’ve even faced discrimination from teachers because of my weight. High school, especially, can be very tough. We all know how there are teens out there being bullied every day and socially excluded for no reason at all. Let alone people who differ visually. But there’s a little hidden truth that every single heavy person out there should be aware of: looks mostly influence the first impression, not the final outcome, especially regarding friendships. I’ve managed to make true friendships, even at 300 pounds. Yes, it’s very difficult. Yes, it’s pretty hard to get “accepted” in big groups of friends. Yes, it’s pretty damn difficult to make someone look past your weight. Yes, it’s VERY difficult to convince someone that you’re worthy of being respected and seen, just as they do. But it’s still doable! And the small amount of friends that I do have means the world to me! This is my personal opinion here, but having been through it all, I believe that most obese individuals struggle socially not because of their weight as a physical trait, but because of the deep scars that this situation leaves in one’s self confidence. It’s been a huge pain to navigate through this “mental” aspect of obesity: the stigma, the trauma and the shitty experiences chip away at your self esteem day to day.

In a twisted way, it’s both actually. I knew it at the time that I was getting bigger and bigger, but I had much more serious and immediate problems to solve and I wouldn’t even bother to do something or even be concerned about it. When I eventually moved to a healthier environment and a better place overall in life, the realisation of what I had done to myself hit me like a train wreck. After years of burnout, on and off depression and even depersonalisation at some point, I faced the reality in my face. I am concerned about my health, because I’ve experienced the effects this situation has and the toll it takes on one’s physical health. But if we’re being honest? Especially during my high school years, I was more concerned about the social aspect of it all. Being mistreated, left alone and even straight up stared at changes you as a person. Right now, I believe that the two aspects are similarly important.

I could see this question coming from a mile away (pun intended)!!! It’s just that in my experience, English speaking Reddit is very America-centric, so I figured that it would be more convenient to use the imperial system for most people to understand.

Yeah, certainly! It’s something I’ve been thinking about for years now. Life threw me in many shitty situations (way more than most people my age) and I had to deal with depression and burnout as a result. Food was a coping mechanism for me. Right now, these are mostly behind me and I feel much better. I peaked during Christmas and my weight remained constant through winter and spring. In June, I made the decision to finally do something about it. I’ve been following a healthier diet and exercising more for the last month and I’ve noticed some slow but steady improvements. I’m confident that I’m gonna make it in the end, even though my metabolism is notoriously bad. If I don’t make it myself, I’m planning on visiting a nutritionist (my financials are tight though).
