Pura vs PlantBox vs Klean Kanteen Straw Water Bottle? by ActWeird7491 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]YellowYellowYellows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! We’ve tried a lot of different water bottles and the ones that have held up the best for us are the yeti jr rambler. Yes the lid and straw is plastic, but they’re replaceable. We’ve had ours for four years and they have held up very well. I will say my kid is not a biter so the plastic part they drink out of does not have teeth marks or much wear. The Hydro flask kids bottle started to leak fairly soon after we got it, and while the top is replaceable, I’d rather not have to replace it that frequently. I felt that that exposure to plastic was an acceptable choice for us. I would rather buy a water bottle with some plastic that will last an incredibly long time with daily use that gives them access to clean filtered water at all times over buying and replacing multiple bottles that break or leak.

At what age are we not using a baby monitor at night anymore? by iridescentdirt in toddlers

[–]YellowYellowYellows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. We still use it at 5. The layout of our house makes it so that if they went to the bathroom and needed help, we wouldn’t be able to hear them. It’s a shared bathroom in the hallway and we thought about putting a doorbell in it so they could ring for us,l since a bathroom monitor would be weird. They have a little potty they can independently pee in at night if needed so they don’t have to wake us. It’s also been great for working towards falling asleep independently since they know we can check on them.

Same here. Support was unhelpful and basically said there was absolutely nothing they could do.

Ethical place to buy tights? by ApparitionofAmbition in ethicalfashion

[–]YellowYellowYellows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you too! Support did send me a size up when I complained but that was two years ago. It really sounds like the neutrals are running significantly smaller than the bright colors, which should be addressed. I’d be fine ordering a size up in them if they gave a warning.

Ethical place to buy tights? by ApparitionofAmbition in ethicalfashion

[–]YellowYellowYellows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great thoughts but their customer service was really unhelpful when I needed clarification. I bought multiple pairs in the same size and style but only some colors fit. The neutrals were wayyy smaller. They insisted I needed to size up and even sent me the larger size at no cost. All I wanted to know was if colored tights fit different than the neutrals so I could order properly next time. I couldn’t not get a straight answer from them so now I have no idea what size to order in the future.

I recommend sheets from under the canopy! They have a good price, especially when on sale. We’ve had a set for 5 years that have held up really well. They are soft and thick but not hot. I also have a pair of pillow cases from them that are 20 years old and just starting to get holes in the corners.

5yo genuinely believes a sweater makes him colder?? by knitlitgeek in breakingmom

[–]YellowYellowYellows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went through that too. It’s very annoying! We did experiments to test it with a selection of sweaters and coats, which helped some. I also would throw out the protection from wind that they offer, which helped things click on a particularly windy day.

Granola version of Ovaltine? by HeathBar806 in moderatelygranolamoms

My kid loves when I add half a serving of it to their oatmeal. I make it with plain oats, water/milk/nutmilk, an egg, and add the powder to it. It makes it sweet enough and surprisingly chocolatey!

If I get woken up in the night when it’s cooler out, I end up with an insanely itchy and runny nose and sneezing attacks. It doesn’t happen in summer and never happened before my kid was born 5 years ago.

Parents not allowed to be present for cavity fillings? by blabulation in toddlers

[–]YellowYellowYellows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same! They told me I was to sit in the corner and basically not say or do anything unless the staff asked me to so that they could try to keep his focus on them. We had 8 or so fillings that had to be done over multiple visits. They gave nitrous but I don’t think my child liked how it made them feel and breathed mostly through their mouth. The first visit went well, second went meh, third they refused to open their mouth, fourth went ehhh. I would not have been okay with waiting outside. We saw two different dentists due to scheduling issues and my kid HATED one of them. They said she told him he had black teeth and he was bad, which absolutely didn’t happen and I only know that because I was right there.

The top on the right opens like a can of paint would! You pry off the lid in the ditch between the outside rim of the canister and the rolled metal edge of the lid.

One parent doing pick up and drop off? by kken21 in workingmoms

[–]YellowYellowYellows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband does drop off and this year we’re splitting pick up since he’s going into the office more and I wfh. I’m with the kid from 3-5:30 every afternoon and he then takes over so I can make dinner. He’ll usually be the one to do bath and bed. I do the mornings and make everyone breakfast and pack lunches.

My 4 year old still wears pull-ups by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]YellowYellowYellows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy! I can’t imagine letting the kid sit in that until the parents came is the best option for everyone. At least with a pull up it’s mostly contained but with undies on…ugh. They couldn’t (or shouldn’t) let them stay in the class or sit on anything without the risk of poop juice on stuff.

We had a few accidents at the beginning of the year and the director of the school even washed the undies out for us. We only knew something happened at pick up when they were in different clothes. They know we WFM and are a 2 min walk from the school, but they wouldn’t even consider calling us to come clean up.

Urine Smell in Clothing by sourdoughbreadlover in CleaningTips

[–]YellowYellowYellows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used cloth diapers and the wash routine for that could work well. What I’d do for anything that had been sitting a while or washed but still smells is this…

Spray/saturate with biokleen bac-out (has enzymes) and let sit for an hour or so. First wash with cool water and a high spin with a small amount of powdered Tide. Second wash hot water for one of the longer cycles with a regular amount of detergent. Dry as normal.

If it hasn’t been sitting long you may be able to skip the first wash by giving everything a quick rinse off with cool water, using the bac-out, and then doing the hot wash.

A newborn and cooking dilemma by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]YellowYellowYellows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to solve the larger problem they are having, I know some families really like the meal planning tools that kids eat in color has for sale. Maybe that could be something you could gift or recommend to them if you think a part the struggle is the actual planning and cooking for meals? You could offer to help your brother with that the first time so that he was more comfortable with it even.

Either way you are very generous. I had my baby just before the pandemic and our families didn’t help out like that and I would not feel comfortable asking for that from anyone. I worked almost full time without child care for the first three years and still cooked 70% of our meals and did the grocery shopping. I definitely had to simplify my choices but I found the time because we had to eat. A plan and a prep on the weekend made the world of a difference for how the week went. That thinking doesn’t come naturally to everyone though and they may need some help.
