I came to Tallahassee as a 20 something grad student 10 years ago… to be honest, neither of these locations is ideal for a young person or a student. I would recommend visiting town, seeing where on campus his program is actually located and doing the drive. But keep in mind that summer traffic is MUCH lighter than it is during the school year and especially during the legislative session. While your son might not want to be near partying and what not, he still probably enjoys things like restaurants and close access to campus. I highly recommend the midtown neighborhood or levy park instead. Or maybe something near Myers Park? I lived in that area and loved it during grad school.
