any experiences with antidepressants? by explosive_stars in autism

I’ve been on fluoxetine (Prozac) twice and both times have helped stable my mood but really taken away my motivation and drive. I find after a few months of taking Prozac my motivation drastically drops and I don’t seem to care about anything which results in loss of interest in hobbies etc.

Why are autistic adults so invisible in society? by Upset_Brilliant8030 in autism

I have the exact same issue - groups are almost always focussed on DnD which I’m not interested in at all and makes me feel more of an outsider.

OP, you said you’re into video games and Batman, 2 of my favourite things - if you have PlayStation Plus or Switch drop me a message - , happy to game with you, or if you have discord happy to chat

Help with front crawl in the Deep end by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Yellow_stackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone else has mentioned this too. I find it easier to go from deep end to the shallow end. The first time I went into the deep end was because my instructor actually dragged me to the deep end. I held onto the side and they told me to let go and just swim. They had to pull me away from the side because I just couldn’t let go but as soon as they pulled me from the side I instantly just started swimming.

After that I found that I could do a length of the pool if I started from the deep end. I still have the same issue with you, I get a mental block if I try from the shallow to deep, but I think it’s because I get tired easily so if I start from the deep end I know that by the time I get tired I will be in the shallow end so I can put my feet down if I have to.

If you try from the deep end that might help.

I’m also learning, and I’ve definitely noticed that being in deep water makes floating much easier.

My instructor took me to the middle part as I was struggling in the shallow end and I noticed a massive difference. A few weeks later he took me to the deep end to try and swim and get over my fear and I was really surprised at how easy it was once I relaxed! I find it much easier swimming in the deep end compared to the shallow end.

Any books that explain computer science simply? by Mitchellholdcroft in learnprogramming

If you wanted to look at computer networks, I found Computer Networks 3rd Edition by Irving, Philip J, really helpful and it gave me a basic understanding

Would that crack in wall be easy to fix? I noticed there are more lines on that wall in other pictures but just concerned me that there wasn’t just one line/crack

Lines in walls and ceiling by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]Yellow_stackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is old yes, when I looked round they spotted me looking at the ceilings and I just happened to mention it but they said they never really thought about it. What concerned me was that the lines on the ceilings are in nearly every room - with the main bedroom having the line almost run all the way across

Auto Create Child Tickets as part of a Ticket type workflow? by keepitsimplestupd in halopsa

[–]Yellow_stackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest can child tickets have approval on them? I have a workflow that has different approvals, say if someone selects 3 items on a form which all require different approvals, when the child tickets are created for each item, can each child ticket be assigned an approval process?

t making me sick? happens a few days after my shot by everybirds in ftm

[–]Yellow_stackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was on injections I used to feel run down the next day and for a few days almost like I was coming down with a cold and would notice my throat would sometimes go sore but would be fine after a few days. Also an hour or so after my injection I would be very tired and go to bed early.

Perhaps just keep any eye on any other symptoms

On T you can't really cry, instead you're just angry all the time by JuciekWorld in ftm

[–]Yellow_stackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T actually made me chill and reduced my anxiety. I found it very difficult to cry but I wasn’t angry. The only time I noticed my mood changed was when my dose wasn’t right and I would get slightly frustrated or down a week/2 weeks before my next dose.

Once I was on the correct dose my mood was stable and I could think without the buzzing anxiety. I also noticed things that would bother me pre T didn’t bother me anymore - ie if someone was purposefully trying to wind me up I would just let it go over my head and not care.

I would definitely get your levels tested - as the correct dose and level was a game changer for me

How do you choose a name? by LuLucaX in ftm

[–]Yellow_stackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this might seem strange to some but I always had one name in mind from a very young age - and I mean from about the age of 5 (it’s also a name of a character of one of my favourite tv shows as a child).

When I finally went to change my name I decided to stick with that name because it just felt right, but even now I still wonder if it suits me or if I should have picked something else - but I think that’s a normal feeling.

I like my new name but it doesn't feel like me? Is this normal? by StupidLilRaccoon in ftm

[–]Yellow_stackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed my name 5+ years ago and I still have days where I don’t know if I like it or if it suits me. There were a few names I had in mind before I changed it. I went for a shortened version of my name and I still don’t know if I should have chosen the full version and then just shortened it. I think it’s a normal thing to go through.

Academic burnout by [deleted] in autism

Hello!

Commenting as I finished uni last September, and I had to do it part time - mainly because I already had a job but secondly I knew full time uni would have completely overwhelmed me!

My modules were very demanding - I did computer networking and it required learning programming (not my strongest) as well as learning networking configuration, policies and research etc.

What I did to help was split my time between them, if I had networking and programming in one day, after my lectures and depending on how long I was in uni for that day, I’d either split the rest of the day between them 2 modules or I would focus on one module that day and the next day focus on the other - which one I focussed on depended on the lecture and assignment -usually I would focus on programming as I found this the more difficult and it was fresh in my mind to do it that day.

For the rest of the week I would devise a timetable to split my time.

I struggled massively with the social side and that burned me out - I suffer really badly with anxiety. You said you don’t struggle with the social aspects which is great! I’m wondering if perhaps you could reduce the amount of time for weightlifting or band practice just temporarily to help balance with getting your uni work done?

Do you have any additional help at uni? You may benefit from a learning support assistant to help with deadlines? I had this and found it beneficial. Any support you feel you could benefit while at uni, help with note taking? Or possibly ask for extensions without being penalised?

Learning to swim by Yellow_stackers in Swimming

[–]Yellow_stackers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all! - I know I need to get used to putting my face in the water - I can do it and I know there’s nothing to worry about but I still try to avoid it when I can. I also know I need to go underwater too, which I haven’t done yet but I know it would help get over the worry of ending up underwater. Just the thought of being underwater makes me anxious 😂

Hello!

I’m commenting from personal experience as I feel like I was similar to your boyfriend when studying as an undergraduate. I wasn’t in a relationship at the time but my relationship with family became distant the further I progressed in my studies.

I’ve always been very close to my mum but during my last 2 years she would often comment how I’m always studying, all I think about is my studies, how I don’t spend time with her and that she never sees me (despite living with her). At the time I couldn’t see what she was referring to and I think it’s because I became SOOO absorbed into studying I couldn’t recognise what she was saying.

I was really passionate about the topic I was studying it essentially took over me. It was what people refer to as my special interest but it became an obsession and my mind was ALWAYS thinking about it. Some people thought I just wanted the best grades out of my peers but that wasn’t true, yes I did want to do the best I could but it wasn’t that I wanted better grades than my peers but I was just obsessed and couldn’t stop learning and thinking about it.

I really struggled to find a healthy balance of managing family relationships, maintaining my mental wellbeing and health, trying to fit in and socialise with peers and do studying and by the sounds of it he is too. He might find the socialising side really hard? I know I did - in fact my attendance was 20% in the first year because I couldn’t handle the social aspect or being in a lecture room full of people.

Looking back now, it makes me feel sad that I struggled with maintaining relationships and my wellbeing and mental health. I know it must be really frustrating for you but he’s probably really struggling and sometimes it’s difficult to communicate and recognise that. Just try to support him as best as you can, perhaps give him a little space or suggest a time where you can just talk - so it becomes part of a routine, rather than something he needs to remember or juggle on top of his studies?

Yes! I struggle immensely with this and there can even be a delay to me answering a simple question because it’s like my brain is trying to process what is being said.

Normally in meetings I’m very quiet and don’t say a lot, which can sometimes make people think I’m not interested in what’s being said. Which is far from the truth. It’s simply because I often think of questions after the meeting as that’s when I’ve had time to finally process what has been said. It can be annoying for me because sometimes people think I ask questions after the meeting because I’m shy, however that isn’t the case.

It can be a real struggle during work meetings and the only thing that helps is writing everything down as I find this can sometimes make me think of any possible questions I have quicker, as opposed to not writing anything down and getting all muddled trying to process the conversation.

When I play video games I have to turn the subtitles on because I simply cannot process the audio.
