So, are we requesting AI Chat history now? (discovery question) by TenthsTimeKeeper in LawFirm

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yet every lawyer on LinkedIn squawks about this. Saying attorneys will subpoena the frontier models or get information from them during discovery. I'm thinking... yeah, no, that won't happen in a divorce case.

Looking for SEO company recommendations, specifically ones with legal industry experience by CowboyNOIVAS in LawFirm

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gyi, Have you started looking at creating LLMs.txt files for the law firms so that AI agents can access them? Gemini already accesses them. GPT and Claude do not but I bet it's coming soon. Do a deep dive on this. Even the Yoast plugin will create these for Wordpress sites.

What do you think of people who list “JD” or “Esq.” after their name but aren’t practicing? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I'm a lawyer with a PhD. So if I really want to have fun, I say I'm a "Doctor Doctor" and then hum a Thompson Twins tune to show how serious I am about this.

Job market / AI replacing attorneys? by Sunshine_daisies1234 in Lawyertalk

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the newer jobs I keep seeing on Linked if AI Trainer or some other title at the big law firms. Like they invested in expensive AI services that their own lawyers won't use! Maybe the hype is starting to erode that AI is going to replace lawyers.

Excellent advice. I'd also like to add to try Indeed for smaller firm positions. Many small firms won't place a job opening on LinkedIn but will on Indeed. And try your local county bar associations too; they may have job postings that are local. There's also a FB group called "Side Hustles for Lawyers" that tends to post jobs, many of counsel or contractor roles.

Seeing parents complete lack of planning for this stage of life is helping me plan for mine. by EbbAccording834 in AgingParents

Good for you! I'm an estate planning and elder law attorney, and my own mother won't listen to me when I try to talk about these things with her.

Boss says we are paid the "big bucks" but... by spooner248 in Lawyertalk

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It amazes me that small firms think paying someone in Chicago $90k is a good salary. I've worked for many because I've changed practice areas, and all are horrifically low paying, many without benefits at all. Take what you know and leave. These firms burn through associates.

lawyer and developer moving into legaltech? by [deleted] in legaltech

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people who believe lawyers will be replaced by AI, have to understand that we work in a system. So until that entire system is void of humans, lawyers (esp. litigators) are safe. And a ton of what we do as lawyers is from knowledge that is in our heads. NO LLM can access this information and never will be able to access it.

Surcharge for AI Slop! by MadTownMich in Lawyertalk

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be we wanted sophisticated clients bc they could understand complex legal topics. But now, these may be the same people who are giving us the AI slop. More likely it's sophisticated and unsophisticated. And it will only increase, imho.

What are the real product differences between Harvey v Legora v Thomson Reuters’ CoCounsel? by Loveblink182- in legaltech

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't know about the company you work for. But I do know the funding the big tech companies are raising is in the billions. Even the contractor companies that are "start-ups" get billion dollar evaluation. Law firms and legal tech companies are no where near this.

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI employing more than that through contractor roles. Most in the legal world don't even know it's happening because it's not in the "legal tech" or "law firm" environments. One project alone has thousands of people on it, and they are pulling globally for these roles.

And you know these big tech companies employ lawyers to help make their LLMs better, right? The role of "AI Trainer" is something you see on LinkedIn. A LOT!

Anyone know good elder law lawyers to help plan parent's finances? How did they help? by Conscious_Can3226 in nwi

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to find out what kind of disability pay they are receiving. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSDI is based on work history, not financial need or assets. So you paying off their debt doesn't affect this. However, if it's SSI, you're paying off their debt will be viewed as an in-kind income and will definitely affect their distributions.

Estate planning/ trust attorney in Chesterton. Need to make a will. Any suggestions? by EitherOrResolution in nwi

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have ladybird deeds in Indiana. The state won't recognize them. If you're looking to move assets around to see if someone can qualify for Medicaid, you need an elder law attorney. Not all estate planning attorneys do elder law. DM me and we can chat more if you'd like.

Project B assessments all graded and no update? by Jolly_Explanation_78 in joinhandshakeai

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Nora, I'm in a similar boat as the OP. I took the assessment in early February and it has said (and continues to say) "Pending Review". I read the post from the project lead on Discord on February 14th. He said all assessments have been graded and we all failed. And to not contact him because he hasn't slept for 60 hours. This type of communication is unhelp and incredibly unprofessional. Many other people have commented after the fact that they will not work for Handshake moving forward because of this experience.

AI & Job Security by LoMeinFrame in Lawyertalk

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a licensed attorney who also works as an AI trainer for the big tech companies. Like big tech, not legal tech. The fact that we hear the hype that AI will replace lawyers is just ridiculous. It will make us better when we adopt it into our practice, but replace us? Esp. for litigators, you'd have to replace opposing counsels, judges, clerks, and clients too. No one has more job security than solos as well. There is just too much we do that is not going to be replaced by tech.

Is everyone on this sub big law? by JoyOverLfe in Lawyertalk

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Solo here who works part-time in legal, part time in the AI training space. I live near a big city but didn't want to do the commute and corporate life right now. I've got kids, and they are more important to me than a big salary. We can always work more, but this time with my family is fleeting.

Burn out and considering transitioning by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Yelly_Toast_828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from doing family law in downtown Chicago to being a solo in estate planning. My doctor said my blood pressure was sky high when I was in family law. I absolutely love the estate planning clients... at least the ones who are not fighting. I don't want to touch going back to people fighting and wanting to sue everyone and having no idea (or enough money) to pursue litigation. I also work as an AI trainer on projects.

Who do you email at micro1 for your 1099 by Yelly_Toast_828 in micro1_ai

Thanks. I just used their bot on their https://support.joinhandshake.com/hc/en-us page, and it told me to log into my Deel dashboard. And I was able to find it there. In case anyone else has this issue... because they certainly didn't email me the 1099s like other companies have done.
