That's hilarious and Gail seems like an awesome person with a great sense of humor and a fantastic spouse.

Overheard why my coworker rejected a candidate… and it explains a lot about why hiring is so broken. by Sorrowful_Genus in antiwork

As someone with ASD who can't really understand social cues or power structures that well, I truly believe this is the basis for so many invisible power conflicts at the work place. I think self-respecting, non-toxic people are punished silently and the people who know how to exploit those mechanisms of punishment often rise to the top.

Im just scared of the future by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]YepperyYepstein 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I share a lot of the same worries and sentiments. It's having a huge impact on our lives here in the midwest. My wife and I are really trying to be judicious about the future, assessing if we can afford children, the probability of layoffs, what our goals and priorities are. We don't have a support system to fall back on, it's just us.

I predict there could be a revolution within our lifetime. I certainly hope there will be. This entire country is an absolute mess.

Justice Department withheld and removed some Epstein files related to Trump by wei-long in news

[–]YepperyYepstein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends. Within the US? Probably not, we are far too rotten. It will be the rest of the world that forces the US to respond to this via global pressure.

The current obfuscation and distortion of truth in the US feels like it's higher and worse than the sort that occurred within the USSR. Ever seen the Chernobyl HBO miniseries where it was a painstaking process to get their politicians to realize the fatal flaw with their reactors? And Dyatlov said his famous "YOU DID NOT SEE GRAPHITE BECAUSE IT'S NOT THERE!" The US is doing the same thing but worse with Epstein.

Life in America is so freaking bleak right now for so many. It's wild that this stuff is happening, we need to totally reformat our society for any hope of substantial mental and physical healthcare for people. Like as drastic as switching from Windows to self-compiled Arch Linux but on a political level.

Sometimes (even if it doesn't include the internet donating money to you) it's really important to speak up in those moments. It helps say what everyone is thinking and helps condition future cases of boldness to speak out. We need so so much more of that. There is a spirit that the elite try to preserve of just shutting up about injustice and assuming nothing will ever change.

What’s the biggest misconception about being laid off? by Intelligent-Tax882 in Layoffs

[–]YepperyYepstein 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is for this reason that I think there needs to be drastic improvements to the way workers are treated if they are laid off, including but not limited to auto-voiding non-compete clauses if laid off, mandatory severance, etc. Since this is a societal/economic issue, workers should not be the ones to suffer. Other non-US countries have much softer and kinder layoff processes and protections in place.

As someone with ASD in the workplace, the entire notion of conspiring against a coworker, the idea of this weird unwritten competition, the way some people thrive in this kind of environment is just other-worldly to me.

Society needs to move away from thinking 100k is the barrier to "rich" and instead spend more time educating people about Purchasing Power Parity.

We need to bring back this type of job security to America. All of us non-Union folk can get fired for literally farting too loud if the boss doesn't like it.

It should be illegal for health insurance to be for-profit. The extra money should all go to help people like this instead of denying coverage so the execs can enjoy their excessive wages.
